AC Cobra - bad handling!!!

Hi, I need help with the handling on my ac cobra.

It seems to go off the track alot, with quite a bit of understeer. I brake and everything before I go into the corners but unless I slow right down I normally go off the track, where in any other car I have I will stay on the track.

Is it just because its alot quicker than my other cars or is it the supsension or something else. im not too good at all this tuning stuff :ill: so any help would be appreciated :)

I have an ac shelby, should be close enough, I can consistantly do the 'ring in ~7:30 with this setup:

F/R

brakes: 12/7
springs: 7.5/6.5
height:90/95
bound: 5/5
rebound:6/7
camber: 2.4/1
toe:0/0
swaybars:4/5

LSD: 10init; 20accel; 15decel

driving aids: tcs only and at 3. you will roast the tires through 4 gears otherwise.

edit: by the way, this is the first car I've set up, so please don't use it and consider it the best!

What do you expect?

When my friend first started he bought a RUF when he saved up his money, and lo and behold it wouldn't handle..haha...I got it to handle well enough though.

These settings should be pretty good, I've got nearly identical settings on my '70 Charger and I too run the ring in the 7:30 zone. Once I memorize the massive amounts of turns on the track so I actually stay on the pavement 100% of the time I think I'll be in the 7:20's somewhere.

I agree, thats a nice setup. The one thing I am finding is that I think it can be a bit lower, will do some testing with it. I have been reading the guides and I am not convinced I have been going about this the right way. I might well find myself eating my hat before the night is out...

Like most of the american musclecars, you HAVE to stiffen the front end up! It almost seems to be backwards to how it should be, but stiffening the springs up front puts more turning/cornering load on the rear tires, making the car a bit more "balanced".

Otherwise, you're right, the Mustang Gt 350 is the same way, unmanageable understeer.

The AC Cobra is a different car in the game than the Shelby. Different engine sound, different handling, etc.
The Shelby is very neutral, no problem with understeer.
Also make sure you use N tires. You're never going to get realistic handling from the poorly modeled S and R tires.

When I first purchased mine I immediately went and modded it using the body stiffener package (rollcage). This along with proper racing suspension settings gave it the ability to handle a lot better than stock. Maybe see if this helps.

Most of the settings above seem ok but I personally like to set my brake balance a bit more towards the rear if a car is understeering through corners. It makes the car a bit more squirly but I like having the ability to come into the corners under hard braking and control the angle of the front end using oversteer.
