Well after seeing your brother's car up close, all I gotta say is...👍

On another note, why did your brother get 2 diferent widths? I mean I don't get what the advantages are on an AWD car?

Wouldn't it have been cheaper if he just got the same width all around?

I like the dish, but the rims are a little common.

Maybe if you monochromed the body lip i'd think different. ;)

You know thats REALLY not good on the drivetrain of a full-time AWD car, right?? By doing that, you're giving the font and rear wheels different grip levels. So, the whole time you're driving the center diff has to try and compensate. That will wear it out, REAL quick.

Cars like the 911 Turbo can get away with this because the AWD system in them are RWD for the most part. They just distribute power to the front when the rears need help. But, cars like your Audi are full-time. Just something to think about. The Haldex diffs that Audi and VW use aren't cheap.

on a4's its 60 % of the power in the back and 40 % in the rear. and he looked into everything and it doesnt effect it at all. theres a guy he knows who has 19 x 10 in the back and had them on there for 2 years and no problems

Exactly, its a 60/40 full-time system. But, thats when things aren't moving. Every time you turn the wheel, the torque spilt changes. And not only will it have to compensate for that, but now for the wheels as well.

The Porsche system I described is a 5/95 system, so the huge tires in back don't matter that much. But with a full time, very even split going on, like the Audi its more important to keep things equal. There is a reason why those companys don't do that.

Look, I'm not telling you what to do. But, if you look, you'll see that people don't use differnt sizes for a reason. If you like the look, so be it. But, when things wear out, you'll understand why.

Not to mention that he just made the A4's notorious understeer worse. The fronts don't look TOO bad, but the rears are way too wide for the tires he has mounted on them.

i highly dought one inch in difference is gonna be a big deal. and besides allmost everything it being ripped out and replaced with s8 motor tranny and drive train. and we have no problems with understeer at all the thing rids like its on rails with the suspension thats on there. bilstein shocks and H&R coilovers

And, I highly doubt to understand what can happen here, and the severity of what will break. Do as you wish, but its not good.

I'd like to see pics of that conversion. Got any?

oooooh, a ludicrous claim!

i agree with Jnasty, duke, and m-spec on this one... your brother's ignorance will be the car's downfall. plus, the staggered setup looks like ass on that car. don't you guys pay attention to balance? i mean....that's the whole reason why someone would stagger the wheels in the first place. you just regressed in achieving balance.

but, to each his own. the rims themselves look nice though.

HA HA HA, seriously. No one believes you, stop now while you're ahead.......oh wait, nope that can't happen. No one would put an S8 drivetrain in a B5 A4 chassis. No matter what you do, its going to be huge and add giant weight to an already not-so-nimble car. Let alone the fact that trying to get a big ass engine like that in there would be a giant waste of $$$$. Save your imaginary $21k and just buy an imaginary S8.

Click boom.

AO.

Is what I'm expecting.

You ask for opinions then flame our more technically-minded members when they give them?

The A4 DOES understeer.
Putting wider tyres on the back WON'T help this.
Stuffing an S8 engine in - if possible - will make it a big, fat, nose-heavy hunk of rubbish. Although it'll go well in a straight line (just don't expect to stop).

You have been advised how unsafe this could be and dismissed it out of hand. Your loss - or your brother's. But at least it's not just me you keep having a go at. I've been watching this thread since you started it, waiting for you to show your characteristic lack of ability to take criticism. Didn't have to wait long, did I?
