Hmmm wonder what that says....
"attention ring visitors!
please mind the >>STVO<<
- test drives-
please be careful!"

the STVO (straßenverkehrsordnung) is the german traffic law.

look its the f1 track, or an airport, or both.....
that is indeed the grand prix track. the building you can see in very middle you can see the rather new mercedes-grandstand which is located right after the start finish straight where once the first corner "castrol-s" was located but nowadays there is this new complex part of the track that was built to replace castrol-s by hermann tilke and is undriveable...

what are these things they are all over the place....
i think they are acces points for electricity, but i am not sure, the picture is also not very clear. ;)

look distance counters how funny.....
i think they are quite useful on this track. ;)
bear in mind though that the distance written on them is not the distance from the start finish line, but the distance from the entrance and exit for the tourist drivers, which is located in the middle of the long döttinger-höhe straight.

Each section has a name......
if you want to know something about the names, on www.nurburgring.org.uk you can find an excellent list with very interesting background descriptions and translations of all the section names.
A bike sign wtf??...
yes, there are several of those to warn motorcyclists of dangerous corners. "sturzgefahr" roughly means "danger of falling".

Electric power out here? :dunce: ....
well, inside the track there are several villages and they want elictricity, too. ;)

wonder where that road goes to....
there are alot of those small paths that lead from the villages or roads within the nordschleife to the track. so if you happen to be at the ring you can look for one of those and go right to the track where you can watch the tourist drivers, test drivers or even one of the regular endurance races. at the most famous spots you can meet fans and photographers whenever the ring is opened (which is almost every day). and when it is closed you might see some cars of the future being thouroghly tested.

woops.....
you should not do this or you risk to loose your license. :D

just in case you have to go withing the next 10 minutes theres one every half a mile...... 👍
i think they are for the marshalls during the endurance races.

DAMNED TEENAGERS AND THEIR DAMNED GRAFFITI!......

I feel like i'm being watched :scared: .....
thats an antenna for mobile phones (although you are not allowed to use yours while you drive ;))

WTF???...
electricity, water, phone cable...some maintainence whatever...these things are everywhere in germany.

look the other side of the road!!!.....
i can't see anything on that photo. :D

*does MGS sound*
it just warns you of an exit. ;)

Anyone care to translate....
"exit
breidscheid
200m"

breidscheid ist the village that you can see at the next corner. the exit is mostly for tow trucks, police, ambulances, firetrucks and the likes i guess. i would say it is closed usually, not to prevent people leaving the track but probably to prevent people from entering it.

That way to Koln(cologne for you :dunce: )
cologne is pretty close to the track, but i really have no clue why there is a sign on the nurburgring telling people the way to cologne, especially since you cannot exit the track anyway.

yes, and i turn my car like that how???
typical german traffic sign. ;)

Its a public road????
it is indeed legally a public toll road throughout the tourist driving times. which means the STVO applys and in some parts you have speed limits. you can even be fined for driving to fast on the ring, which of course happens rarely, but is done to reduce accidents on the ring.
in the recent years accident and casuality rates have increased dramatically to an extend that the whole public tourist driving was endangered. so the nurburgring gmbh that runs the track had to decide whether to close the track or introduce some stricter rules.

one way i pressume....
right. :)

More section names.....
ex-mill. there has stood a mill once. on the left side you can also see another village.

smokey the bear goes international....
can't read this on the picture, but i can check in GT4 what is written on it.

what the hell is this??
another german traffic sign called "absolutes halteverbot" that prohibits any stopping and parking in this area.

w00t hanzel and gretels home!
i would love to live there.

where does this road go to???
this is the "steilstrecke" part of the track. it is a shortcut that was sometimes used in the past. about a half to a kilometre later, after karussel, when the tracl reaches a very high point you can see the same road merging with the track again on the left side.
steilstrecke means "very steep track", so steep that it was never really used much. it was last used in some rallye that used the nordschleife for a stage i think.

i feel sorry for the guy who has to sit out during the 24 hour race sheesh....
oh i would love to. he has a roof (it rains a lot at the nordschleife and the fans have to bring their own shelter) and a great view on the track. ;)

merger on the straight, you're joking right?
no. that is near the exit that is used for the tourist driving and this exit is very narrow while the track is wide so you always have a few cones there that lead you off the track and the sign is there to warn you that the track will become very narrow at the exit. ;)

no bumper cars...
that is the exit i have mentioned. the sign prohibits overtaking.

w00t nurgburgring HQ where you can buy all of your nurgburgring memorabilia...
that is at the entrance and exit. that building is the café where you can have a quick meal or a drink.

what does that say?
i am going to check. :)

the f1 track too bad i cant go that way....
oh, it is nowhere near as interesting as the ring. :D

a few pictures of the village of breidscheid in GT4...

...and in reality

Breidscheid.jpg

nr2k1_breidscheid2.jpg

you can clearly see that the track goes over a bridge there because there is one of the roads that lead into the nordschleife.

at the exit there is another sign

it reads: when red, track is closed! proceed slowly.

here is one of the blue signs you have photographed

but i cannot read it, its to blurred. looks like "achtung bachlauf" or something, but that would translate into "caution creek".

here is the beginning of the steilstrecke shortcut with the sign

and the end of steilstrecke shortcut, where it merges with the track again.

the parking lot at the tourist drivers entrance

during the opening hours you can always see a lot of rare sportcars from around the world parked there.

this is the entrance

not modelled are the gates that prevent you from going on the track without a ticket. the small building in the frant is where you can buy your tickets, the larger one in the back is the café.

the other sign you have photographed which i could not read

its an advertisement for the "erlebniswelt nürburgring". a motorsport and car themed leisure park which is located at the grand prix track.

there is a similar advert at another part of the track:

Nice.
Whenever I race on the track, it seems like theres so much i'm missing. Thanks for fillin in what those lil blurs are that I always pass. lol 👍

I would really like to live there one day. looks a nice place to be. plus german people are very nice people just like the french and the rest or Europe.

Amazing how boredom is contagious lol j/k yeah its a great thing to do in a rainy day with the lights off and the air conditioning slightly cold. :sly:
