Lots of great discussions this week. Some things are going to be changed around here.
First off, there will be no more Div.1,2, and 3 threads. All drivers here are to respect others and at least be courteous to other drivers no matter their skill level. There will be a new "WRS Pit Stop" thread for general chit chat and discussion. There will also be a thread to welcome new drivers and for new drivers to introduce themselves if they wish. Intermingling of conversations will be one less thing to drive people into cliques.
Second, T times posting IS NOT MANDATORY. Some drivers may just run a last minute session, may not feel like logging on all week, may be too busy in real life to log on. Hell some drivers that are just starting out may not want to post splits out of shyness or just plain not knowing anybody. Some people may see 30 T times posted already and think what's one more T time going to matter? Posting of T times is just to spice things up around here and help develop rivalries, so it would be ideal that everyone does it. But this is not going to happen, so deal with it. Bottom line is, if you seriously want to win a division around here, bring your best game each and every time you race. If you lay down your best effort, then who cares if you win or lose. Just like in real life.
Third, starting in week 10, Division 1 will be required to post replays if they particiapte that week. Everyone in D1 is very serious about thier work and there's not really any reason not post thier run out of respect for thier fellow D1 drivers, as well as giving the D2 and D3 drivers with access to replay devices the chance to learn from all of the D1 people. This is also going to snuff out any potential arguments that are bound to happen any week now. Replays for D1 will be required within 3 days of the results going up, unless previous arrangements are made in advance. If you know you're going out of town or won't have access to your PC for a few days, just mention that in your time submission to me so that everyone will know.
Fourth, It is entirely up to me as to who's replays need to be posted in other divisions. Quite often in the past I have asked for replays of D2 and D3 winners, and in 90% of these cases I knew that these drivers had access to a replay device so I had them post thier replays. OG's time was not queried by me this week because for one, I knew he was having a busy week in general, and two, he has 2 years of me personally competing with him on a 100% verified basis so I fully trust that his run was legit. The only times I will request replays from D2 or D3 is if I know the drivers have a replay device, or if thier time is well ahead of the rest of thier division and I want to check it out before promoting them, or if I get complaints of someone's time not being belived by the other drivers. If you have a problem with someone's time, speak up and let me know, and if I agree I'll make sure the time gets investigated.
Fifth, I am going to have discussions with Flat-Out as to whether we are going to continue using this leaderboard format. I have tremondous respect for what Cyril has done and the large amount of effort he puts into the leaderboard each week, but some people just don't get what the WRS is really all about. Hopefully a revamping of this will change some people's views.
As a final note, there is a lot of animosity between a lot of the veterans and a small group of drivers who are new to the WRS. The main point that the veterans (like myself) are not happy about is the way the tone of the WRS has changed since GT4 has come out. PAY ATTENTION HERE: We are not upset that there are new people here with different opinions, or new drivers that are faster than us, etc. What upsets us is the lack of sportsmanship.
Examples of such:
Not having to reimind winning drivers to congratulate others.
Not laughing at slowers driver's times (which has happened)👎
Being accepting of others even when you don't agree with them.
Not bragging about your accomplishments. (Whether it be in your signatures or whatever)
To the Veteran drivers, please be aware that some people that are new here don't think of it as a "sport" since it is on a PC and you are not competing face to face. Please try to consider this when trying to persuade rookies into acting a bit more sportsman like. Bluntly saying that "I've been here XX races and this is how it is" can be taken the wrong way. A little tact goes a long way. If at first someone doesn't take the hint, then perhaps something a bit more blunt is in order.
Disagreements are bound to occur, and that's fine. As long as flame-fests do not erupt, then I am going to interfere as little as possible. I am more of a "hands-off" type of guy, as I expect each of you to carry yourself with some dignity. Just because you have a PC and can log onto GTP does not give you the right to race here. It is a priviledge and I expect you all to treat it as such.
I was contemplating quitting my administrative duties here at the WRS, but I'm going to give it one last shot. If this kind of crap happens again, someone else can have it. Hopefully some of our veterans who have been put off so far will come back when they have some free time and give it one last shot also. Lead by example and show everyone the way things should be! I also hope that some of the new drivers will not see the recent events as standard practice around here, and continue to particiapte. In tiime, the WRS can be a good time for all, and sooner or later we'll all be "Veterans" and have a good laugh.
Responses are welcome in this thread, but be warned: Any out of line garbage and you're going to get a warning from me, and a record of the offence in the Moderator's forum. Three strikes and you're banned from GTP by the way, so use your head and don't get your first warning here.
Later, Todd the WRS Mod.
