Hey guys, Before you all go fussing about this being in the wron place, let a mod come on an move this for me, Cos I searched and can't find anything like this...

My problem...

The other day while I was trying to enter the Week 19 Drift Comp I tried heading to Costa Di whatever and loaded photomode race... Now you know when a race loads (PAL version BTw) a little white speedometer comes on and circles while it's loading... Well, mine turned red and then didn't load anything... just sat there for ages... So I went out to try a different track and the same thing... I tried a few tracks with mixed results, some worked others didn't...

This is really annoying because I can't play GT4 anymore, has anyone had or heard of this problem before? and if so, How can I fix it?

Thanks, ViXeN

Yes, especially knowing that ViXeN is a female race car driver...

Now, back on the lovely Ms. ViXeN's original question, this is the dreaded DRE. Cleaning the disk may help, as well as inspecting it for scratches. Some people have had success in using a lens cleaning disc, or even taking their PS2 apart and cleaning it themselves.

I do know that Sony has a fairly liberal policy on this issue, and has often been known to repair or replace machines well out of warranty if you contact their Customer Service people and tell them you have the disc read error.

My own PS2/GT4 gave me its first issue the other night. I attempted to go to the Las Vegas strip for the first time, and it hung on the load screen. However, it never turned the clock red (a definitive sign of DRE), though it sat there for a few minutes and required a reset. After the reset it walked right in, so I don't know what the issue was.

ive had countless issues with my ps2 reading the disc, taking it all apart and cleaning it usually fixes it, but yes the red spinny thing means ur ps2 is struggling to read the disc, clean the disc and or the innards of ur ps2 it should work again.

Oops, no offense.. :nervous:

On topic: I had GT4 freeze on me once, after doing race 7 or 8 in the GT World Championship.. I won the race, and after selecting next race no loading screen came up and the game froze. Had to restart and when I went back to the championship I lost my progress and had to restart race 7.. This was the only time it happened during gameplay, but several times my PS2 can't read the disc on startup and I get the PS2 browser screen. One reset solves the problem.

OK, let's clear up the avatar first... Read my profile and you'll find out that I'm a lesbian, therefore I ,like most of you here, find woman extremely attractive...

On topic: I think it must be my disk or something, I cleaned out the PS2, cleaned the laser with CD cleaning alcahol and it still does it. Funny though, it works on Arcade Mode.

I'm going to rent the disk tonight at my video store and test that. If it still doesn't work, I'm taking it back to Sony, if it does work, I'm taking the disk back to where I bought it.

Thanks for all your help guys... ;)

Damn, I thought the avatar was a guy..... :indiff:

this is the reason i must now buy a new gt4 disc and have been tossed all the way back to playing gt2 again. damn ps2. it made some nice deep groves all the way around the disc and even though i got it buffed and waxed it wont work on any system.

i doubt sony would do anything for me as it broke right after the 90 day warranty and that little void sticker on the back of the ps2 is only half on there...

It does it to me a lot, but usually when it happens, I open the CD tray, and close it again. The PS2 tries to read it again from scratch, and it has always come back on for me.

my disc will only load to the white lettered scea presents thing right after the legal warning. when it brings that up the thing speeds up and stays there forever. i tried it on a slim ps2 and it wont work on that either. it dont have scratchs anymore but no go.
