From The Weather Channel:

Hurricane Hunters have just recorded a pressure of 901 mb, the 5th lowest pressure ever recorded in the Atlantic Basin. This represents a 69 mb drop in less than 8 hours!

Winds are now up to 150 mph making this a Category 4 hurricane. Wilma could become a Category 5 later this morning.

Wilma may try to slip through the Yucatan Channel into the extreme southern Gulf of Mexico and turn to the east or northeast. Residents of the southern Florida, including the Keys, should begin thinking about the possibility of a hurricane strike sometime this coming weekend.

Third Cat 5 of the year? Let's hope it eases up before it makes landfall...

I speak for every intellectual human being on the planet.

What the hell are the chances of that one?!

I hope to god it doesn't hit us. I really do.

I can just see the lack of support because everything is so focused on stupid katrina.

Edit: if XY and Z are damn cat 5's too, I'm totally moving. I remember some stupid weather forecaster back in spring...They said that because it was raining so much so early, that we would have a dearth of hurricanes for the season.

Doesn't she feel crunchy.

**** is about to get real thick down in South Florida. REAL THICK.

I'm glad I don't live down there.

Oh, and there will be no X, Y, or Z hurricanes. They're naming subsequent hurricanes based on the greek alphabet (alpha, beta, ... ).

Can we say...whoa...:scared:

"It's been confirmed: Hurricane Wilma, with a pressure of 882 mb, is the most intense hurricane on record in the Atlantic Basin." -weather.com
1. Wilma - 884 (mb)
2. Gilbert - 888 (Year, 1988)
3. Labor Day - 892 (Year, 1935)
4. Rita - 897
5. Allen - 899 (Year, 1980)
(6. Katrina - 902)

The way this storm season's going, the Cyrillc alphabet will get some use before November is out.

Good luck to the folks on the Yucatan Peninsula and the western end of Cuba/DR. With luck it will slot between them and stay south of Florida. And really good luck to southern Florida...

This is what we Floridians get for wishing for a cold front; instead, the said front is advancing to the south and pushing the storm system sharply to the east.

We're not wanting it, but we're ready for it. One last stand!

More on what #17 posted:

The minimum central pressure has dropped to an incredible 882 millibars or 26.05 inches, which makes Wilma the strongest Atlantic hurricane ever observed based on pressure.

Wilma, after undergoing a stunning intensifcation overnight, is now a catastrophic Category 5 hurricane packing sustained winds of 175 mph.

The eye of the violent storm is now following a wobbling WNW track through the western Caribbean with a turn toward the NW expected within the next 24 hours.

Fluctuations in intensity are likely, but Wilma is forecast to remain an extremely dangerous Category 5 hurricane through Thursday.

So, yesterday on my way to work it was just a hurricane watch. By the time I was heading home last night it was a cat. 1. I wake up this morning and hear it is a cat. 5.

WTF dude?

They said on the radio it went from tropical storm to cat. 5 in 12 hours. Is that some kind of record?

I was shocked to see that Wilma was already a cat 5 when I got up this morning! The news said sustained 175mph winds and gusts up to 215mph!!!! :nervous:

It hasn't turned yet, and the more it waits, the more north it moves up the Florida coast. Meaning closer to a Central Florida hit. Not cool for me, and my family.

More importantly, why is it that these things want to always hit on the weekends? I am sit and tired of being destroyed on a weekend, spend whatever time I have left cleaning up and then going to work on Monday. Listen if a cat. 4 cat. 5 is knocking the door, comes though, I'd at least like a day off to chill. (This all being said in light of the possiblity of serious damage.)

I was planning on being in Daytona for biketoberfest on Saturday, but now I don't know. Might be getting the house ready for its brush with its forth storm in 2 years. Good thing is, it has a new roof, and a brand new wood porch/carport built to withstand hurricane force winds. At least better then that alum. crap we used to have.

Oh and if Florida has any hope, its the fact that the Gulf waters are much much cooler then they were a month ago! This should help decrease her strength before hitting.

Wow, Mother Nature must really hate America. All I can say is good luck. :indiff:
Have you seen the threat tape?

President George W. Bush, in a speech earlier this month, declared that America should "bomb the sky" because "the clouds hate our freedom."

"We will maintain air superiority", he insisted, as a formation of heavily-armed Hurricane Hunter planes, contracted from Halliburton, scrambled for takeoff.

"We are not scared of Bush," said the cloud. "We shall continue to attack America with very strong winds and sensationalist press coverage."

Let's hope it's nothing like Custard's last stand. :scared:

I hope all you mid/southern Floridians are well prepared and hope that everone makes it through alright.

We NE Floridians are probably in for some gnarly weather too.

Yay, I knew saying "Man, I wonder why no hurricanes have really hit FL yet" too many times would end up with bad results...

I have to put the shutters up again? I just took them down!!
I have two windows that use the aluminum bolt-on shutters, they haven't gone down since Hurricane Jeanne last year. They're in the back, so nobody sees them anyhow.

Three windows use accordion shutters, and the rest use Bermuda shutters. I'll
have those down and in place in 15-20 minutes.

Omnis, Giancarlo, Sicbeing, IntegraTypeR, Magic069, ///M-Spec, Miata13B...good luck and stay safe!

Damn, I guess you guys are having an unlucky year. :(

Good luck to everyone who will be caught in it.

Thanks pal, I'll try to stay indoors, even though my curiosity will make me want to wander around outside... during the storm :scared:

Canada doesn't get hurricanes:sly: .

Did you guys hear about what the insurance companies did to the katrina victims?

They said all the damage was cause by water and not wind, so that doesn't technically count hurricane damage. That means people don't get their money for property damage.
