Hooking my PS2 up to my computer monitor

I've been looking and asking all over the web for a way to hook up my PS2 to my computer monitor because I have a CRT monitor and a desk that my DFP would be perfect on. I have no where else in my house where I can use the DFP in a satisfactory way except on my computer desk.

If I can hook up my ps2 and get at least as good a picture as a TV I will be happy. I want to be able to consolidate everything into my new computer.

So I have been looking for VGA adapters and what-not, and I can't find a lot of reviews or feedback from forums. I found the G-combo Plus adapter, the viewsonic n4-6 and those types of things, but I don't know if they are any good.

I don't want to spend a ton of money but I can probably spend about 60-80. Does anyone have any suggestions? I really want to find something good.

You can buy converters cheaply these days, even a high quality one is about $30 Australia, so if you use standard AV cables then by a AV to CRT converter, which will be the cheapest. If you use the component lead/HD Lead just get a Component to CRT converter, which will be the Dearer of the 2. And if you use S-Video it's pretty much the same deal.

I play on my PC monitor but I'm using this beast. It has digital and analogue inputs so I can run two PCs through it at once as well as a composite and s-video input for my consoles. I used to use the composite cable supplied with the PS2 but I've now purchased an s-video alternative for next to nothing from a website. The picture is much sharper. For sound I just plug the 2 RCA leads into the auxiliary input on my stereo.

The great thing about the 2001FP is that you can run it using Picture-In-Picture mode so that if I have the Windows desktop up, I can play GT4 in a little 640x480 window on the screen at the same time. Unfortunately it isn't a cheap solution but I would definitely recommend this monitor. I haven't even mentioned the 4 USB 2.0 ports and the fact it raises nearly 1ft, rotates to portrait view, has a nice low response time and a wide viewing angle.

I'm not that concerned with recording replays really, I saw that card though along with the ATI All-in-Wonder but I didn't think it was worth it.

That component to CRT idea seems really good cheap and easy to me. I just don't know why I haven't heard about that until now.

I've been thinking mostly about the Vdigi, G-combo and n4 recently, but eastley, your idea seems to be quite appropriate.

I use Leadtek TV tuner, external thingy, doesn't need PC running, just S-video from PS2 and plugin VGA cable from CRT monitor and it works great. Picture is not super hi-res quality thing, but it's playable. I'm satisfied. And that's all that matters. And the thing costed about 90EUR. Pictures are at the bottom of this link - http://users.volja.net/vipersan/cockpit.htm

All he needs is a Converter, not a TV Tuner or Capture Card. Converter will cost like $10 US.

That should do the Job..

You'll need to be careful.

I use an old hauppage tv card on my PC to take an input from the PS2, and then DScaler is the program to use to display the picture. It's very smooth, gives a great picture.

The newer TV cards can delay the picture by half a second to four seconds, which is obviously useless for playing on a PS2.

I had the same question as you - how to display the PS2 picture on the computer monitor. All the picture converters I looked at were more expensive than a TV card, and it did make me think about just getting a cheap TV to use, or upgrading my monitor to one that could display the picture properly.

But for now, the TV card route is working. As a bonus I can also record or stream a GT4 race using Windows Media Encoder, but I don't really have the bandwidth for a high-quality stream. You can do screenshots too, which is nice.
