DFP not calibrating correctly! Will not work!

I have looked through this forum, but haven't found much to help me with this problem. I'll start up the ps2, the wheel will move the whole 900 degrees to calibrate, then will do the same thing i think two more times. I've opened it up, and found the small little gear which should move the locking mechanism from off (900 degree mode) to on (200 degree mode) doesn't when it should.

Now I've manually put it into 200 degree mode and tried to shift into 900 mode by pressing select + ..., and it works fine. But if I try to change it back the same way, the gear just gives a small jerk and nothing happens. It seems as if it is trying to move the locking mechanism in the WRONG direction.

Now there was one single post I could find about this topic, but it was confusing, saying to check some part labeled 2z in the photo, but the photo didn't have it, and the link to another website is dead.

If anyone has any ideas, I'd be very greatful. My DFP is dying

Also, when calibrating, the LED lights are alternating.
And, both of the touch sensors inside are working, so if I manually force the wheel to work, then the wheel can tell if it's in 200 or 900 mode (the right LED is on or off according to which mode its in).

I'm really completely baffled as to why its not working.
In another post which was explaining what is causing this problem, something was said along the lines that a steel plate was bent, causing the wheel not to know if its centered or not. I'm not sure what part they were talking about.

Again, if anyone could help, that'd be great.

same thing happens to me.

if you find a fix plz tell me. I'm already on my 2nd wheel.

my warrenty has expired, and i lost my reciept.

so i am screwed unless someone knows how to fix it. If anyone figures it out, i'll have 2 working DFPs instead of 0.

i fixed the wheel

. i unscrewed it, and took off the top. then i plugged it into my pc and watched the callibration process. I'm not sure of the correct terminology to use to describe what i did though. basicly there's a small black scquare thing you'll see near the center and it will have a thin metal piece that is only partially attatched on one side to it. when the wheel is in a 200 mode, that part is pressed down i think... well i pressed that part down and then the wheel sorta went crazy.. the LED's started flashing etc... so i unplugged it and plugged it back in and it calibrated properly.

its tricky to screw the top back on because the shifter keeps moving unless you hold it in place somehow... i'm gonna do the same thing to fix my other wheel later.

Do you have to open all inside the wheel?

i didnt draw the big metal part that goes down along the center. and i only drew half of the wheel sine all the stuff is on the right side. just press down that part and hold it there before you plug the wheel into the pc or ps2. it might take 1 or 2 tries. if it callibrates off center just unplug it and plug it back in again without pressing it.
its very simple there arent many parts so its not too hard to see what i'm talking about if u open the wheel up.
its easier to put the top back on if you leave the bottom part of the wheel atatched to a desk.

Tried this, but it didn't work.

But while trying it, I definitely confirmed that the little motor/servo that physically locks/unlocks the wheel to 200 degrees tries to change it to 200 degree mode, except it turns in the wrong direction! It seemingly knows its in 900 mode, but just turns the wrong way. Changing the wheel from 900 to 200 mode works perfectly, and the two touch sensors (the black squares with the silver pieces) both work.

so.. ur saying they move away from eachother instead of moving towards eachother? is it possible to use ur hands to move them where they should be?

I don't exactly know what "they" is referring to, but basically the locking mechanism isn't going towards the piece that is moved by wheel, if that's what you're talking about. I have manually moved the piece with my hand, and that let everything calibrate correctly.

I'm thinking of drilling a small hole in the top of the DFP, and somehow attach a homemade lever that can be used to move it into 200 mode. Not sure how (or if) I'm going to do it, but it's the only thing I can think of to fix the problem.

BTW, I emailed Logitech several days ago, still no response.

Ok, I got the email from Logitech, and from what I can tell, their offices are filled with some type of monkey or chimp that can reply to emails, but lacks any significant amount of logic.

I've simply left the base of the DFP open, so that I can physically move the piece that locks the wheel to 200 degrees. I do this every time before I boot up the ps2, and this way it's able to calibrate, and the wheel functions perfectly after that.

Of course, it's probably not safe to leave the wheel largely unassembled. One of the edges has already taken a small chunk out of one of my fingers, but it's honestly worth it since I haven't been able to use the wheel for around 2 months or so. Maybe when I have some free time I'll put together some mechanism to manually change modes without having the top off.

well I had a similar problem,and i have fixed it,I think something is wrong with the circuit board because the little motor that moves the locking mechanism was'nt getting any power,I will take some pictures and post them.
My english is not that good I hpoe you understand it.

I've had the same problem for a while now. I have to take apart the DFP and do what Gabkicks said each time. With GT4 you have to let it do the normal 900 degree calibration, then at the right time lock it into 200degrees to do that calibration, then move it back to 900 degrees for it to work correctly.

Here is a drawn I did to fix my Dfp,every time I play GT4 I have to put it in 200 degrees mode for it to calibrate correctly,then by moving the switch it goes to 900 degrees,I dont have to open the thing every time I want to play GT4.

Sorry to bring up an old thread, but my wheel seem to do a simular thing,

when i plug it in to the PS2or PC the wheel will just spin backwards and fowards a few degrees.

can anyone help?

Did you take a look of my draw above ? Mine was doing the same thing, as it turns out it was the circuit sending the voltage to the little motor.

Ok, i had this problem and your draws were VERYYYYYYY unuseful!

But i get what is wrong, watch my draw, dont care about the colors of the draw, just watch and read this:

Heres the translation:

After connecting to the pc the blue piece must be as shown in the drawing, which will calibrate to 200º with no problems.

Then they if you want 900 degrees you have tto move the blue piece backwards manually.

That means if you want to play with 900 degrees you have to this everytime you put wheel on pc, that means you have to have wheel opened

OR just open a small hole on plastic and use your imagination

If you dont understand or dont work with this FIX, IT WONT WORK WITH NOTHNG.
