Hyundai ImageQuest Q70U 17" LCD Monitor - Silver/Black (MO-037-HY) - £223.19
Samsung SM730BF 17" LCD Monitor (MO-028-SA) - £199.69
Viewsonic VX724 17" LCD Monitor (MO-041-VS) - £246.69

But If I don't get any of these how good is the CRT below?

Hyundai ImageQuest Q770S 17'' Perfectly Flat CRT Monitor - Black/Silver (MO-006-HY) - £76.32

One more thing what other good flat screen CRT's are there, that is 17inch in size folks?

I don't know about CTR's but I do know that Samsung is supposed to be very good. Don't forget Sony.

Don't forget. A 17 inch CRT is comparable with a 15,5 inch LCD. You need to get at least a 19 inch CRT to have the same "viewable" screen as a 17 inch LCD.

Have no idea about the brands, but if you're gaming I'd just pony up for a 19" CRT.

If you're looking at spending over £200 then i'd advise looking at a 19" LCD. The extra viewing space does make a nice difference.

I don't have space for 19inch CRT or LCD Don. Plus I don't want to go over £250 which is how much a great 19inch LCD costs with great MS.

Edit:

I may buy a CRT over a LCD. But I am still deciding, the reasons i may buy CRT over LCD is well. I still need to buy a HDTV and DSLR this year buds.

Look, you clearly don't actually know what you're talking about.

A 19" LCD is hardly bigger than a 17" LCD. The foot print might be a inch bigger, but you're not going to notice it really. So, you don't need to worry about size.

As for price, you can buy 19" LCDs from as little as £160 Fact. and the good 19" LCDs start at around £180 Fact (that's my monitor).

Of course there are 19" LCDs that cost over £250, but you don't need to spend that much.

Look i wouldn't suggest that you get a 19" LCD if it didn't fit your price bracket or if you would have trouble accomodating it in the space that a 17" LCD will fit. Please don't tell me i'm wrong without even checking to see what i'm talking about.

So you'll be getting a 17" CRT then? After all a 19" CRT won't fit on your desk.

Hang on, surely if you can fit a 17 inch CRT on your desk, a 19 inch LCD would fit easily?

But it seems you are going for the CRT.

Why not hold a tape measure up to your desk, take a pic, and show us.

That way we can advise you better.

And try and do it soon, don't say "in the next week or 2". ;)

 he'll do it later...

I don't see the point in CRT anymore, arn't they dead and ancient now? :odd:

Well they're getting to be replaced by LCDs. There are still reasons why one would go for a CRT: Better colour reproduction, 0 m/s response time, awesome range of lighting (proper white to proper dark).

But in all fairness, LCDs don't have bad colour reproduction, response times are so low that they don't matter and Sony's X-Black is allowing close to the range of contrast that CRTs offer.

Price isn't really an issue either. Most LCDs under 20" are 'cheap'. Still if you want a 21"+ screen, CRT is the way forward link. Would make a nice gaming screen, although it's massive; a foot and a half square!

Yeah, the compactness in itself should make it a no brainer and then that doesn't make much sense logically for what TVR wants to do. :dopey:

I was thinking that. I doubt he'll actually listen to what anyone says, but why not. I've heard great reccommendations of Samsung, and my Samsung screen is great :)

You would need to spend over £250 if you wanted ghost free blur under 8MS. Which is what people say, plus a good LCD under 8MS costs over £250.

Also I may go for the CRT after all, because my DSLR camera will cost me £450 with a lens. Add on a 1GB SD Card for the DSLR, which will cost me £52.82. Plus my HDTV will cost me £900-£950.

Ghost free under 8ms? You're lucky to get ghosting on a 12ms monitor! In fact, 8ms 19" LCD's are quickly becoming the gamers choice of monitor. 8ms is about as fast as you can go without sacrificing image quality. My monitor is 8ms and I have absolutely no ghosting.

Of course, you won't listen to me (or don). :)

You just made that up didn't you? Just listen to us TVR. You can buy a blur free 19" LCD monitor for under £250. In fact you can buy one for under £200. My 913n from Samsung is blur free (@8ms) and it now costs £180.

Stop arguing it! It's fact, not opinion:

£170 - link

£180 - link

£230 - link

£240 - link

If you don't want to buy an LCD then just say, but please stop saying you can't get a good 19" LCD for under £250. Thankyouplease.

 I like that you two are trying, but to be honest I think TVR Fan doesn't give two ****s what you think. He just creates these threads to gain his post count in my opinion. He asks for others' opinions then disregards them and gets whatever he feels like. ;)

Since this thread has been made, I'm gonna post my request in this one instead of creating another thread about this. :)

So, I'm checking for a 17" LCD and I dunno what to choose. I ask James (G.T.) about good brands and came out with Samsung, what you guys think about this. Anyway, I'm really open with suggestions but I dont want to go over 300$ CAD.

Thanks guys :)

EDIT: Its not for gaming (at least I'll play Sims 2 and UT2004), its for daily use. :)
