Max Speed Challenge

This thread is for speed records. All challenges are for the test track in the "Power and Speed" section. The idea is not who can get the highest overall speed (The 300 mph club has that covered... https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showthread.php?t=69076&pp=20 ). This is to discover what specific vehicles can do.

My first challenge began with my own quest to break 200 mph in a 1970 Toyota Celica 1600GT (TA22). I have a soft spot for this little car because I actually own an American version from 1973 (currently awaiting the install of it's new engine). My initial runs were unsuccessful. After dozens of failed attempts, retries, and spins into the guardrail, I had yielded a max of 199.75 mph on my best attempt (and lost a lot of hair in the process).

Out of frustration, I gave up on my quest for some time. Until I eventually found my way to these forums and the 300 mph thread. Using some ideas and tips from it's members successes, I set out again. I smashed the 300 mph barrier (in a Toyota 88C-V Race Car... not the celica) I had added 60 mph to my former max in that vehicle!!

I applied these same ideas to my Celica quest. After many more attempts (as well as more retries, guardrail kisses and the loss of a little more hair) I finally cracked it!! 200.12!!!:D
I was so excited I just dropped the controller, went outside and ran three miles! Literally!

As proud of this as I am, I know my settings are not perfect. I also had two dots left in my Nitrous-meter and was just edging into the red zone on rpm.

So... Here is the official challenge. Using a TA22 Celica (the 1970 model), what is the absolute max that can be reached. All runs must be one way (no going the wrong direction to extend your run). Tuning is unlimited (the car Maxes out at 209 HP anyway). All top speeds must be verified by a picture.
Sharing settings is encouraged but not required.

I'll post my settings and the verification picture as soon as I can (don't have a way of photographing the screen at the moment.... so my TV's not getting touched!)

If you don't already have the car, it is only sold in the Historic Showroom and is only available 6 times per 100 week cycle. It is always at or near the top of the Showroom.

1st in week 65 (beginning on day 455)
2nd in week 75 (beginning on day 525)
3rd in week 86 (beginning on day 602)
4th in week 88 (beginning on day 616)
5th in week 89 (beginning on day 623)
6th in week 91 (beginning on day 637)

Good luck to everyone!

Good idea. I think there needed to be something about the cars that didn't cut it for 300 MPH duty. Good job with the Celica too.

Finally got the digital camera working. So here's the settings I used for the Celica. With everything upgraded, I used R5 tires in front and R3 tires in rear. Stage 2 turbo. Nitrous at 100. Racing suspension as default except ride hight... 102 Rear and 132 Front. For the transmision, set the final to 2.500 first, then change the Auto setting to 19. Downforce is 0 Front and 20 Rear.

I hardly changed the default settings so I know there's room for improvement.

Celica in 7th place for the photo (and check out 1st... I'm proud of that one too)

I might be able to get a few more out of her......

Congratulations! I've known there was more there! I'll have to give it another try!

And I did, with this as the result!

hey, ill wait til the celica comes to the used car list then ill try and break 200mph
ps, where do u go to get that record page?

When you're in the "Power and Speed" section and do a "Max" run... right after you finish, that's the next screen it goes to. Just don't exit/triangle out of it!

I think my next challenge is getting one of the fiat 500's to do 200. I know the ginhetta(sp?) will do 200+. For the mean time, Ill stick with trying to get my capture card.

I use km/h and I know this might seem tricky to convert to mph but I got
401.81 km/h in a Nissan R92CP.
Is the Minolta faster cause I haven't tried it.
I also feel like comparing the Minolta to the toyota 7 race car

I dont think this has been done before

RX-8 Concept LM Race Car, 395.63mph. I put this photo a while ago in the 300mph thread.

Edit: wait a sec, does the cars have to be Historic?

Did these ages ago, but here's an FF challenge to anyone who wants it.
Can you get to 250mph?

Honda Integra: 246.98 mph

And Dodge SRT: 247.97

No it doesn't have to be historic. This is primarily for speciffic challenges, and beyond that is a catch-all for other things that don't fall under (or should that be over) 300.

I've actually been working on a project to get over 250 in an FF. My most successfull to date had been 247 for the SRT4 for roadcars (so you already beat mine by about an mph) and I got the Integra touring car to 249 yesterday... congratulations on that speed in the roadcar!!

And to Opendriver, I've been trying some one the Odesey. My first run hit 198.5... and I've only been able to improve by a half an mph (the wine might have had something to do with it.... don't drink and drive kids!! even on GT4)

I forgot about the Touring Car Integra. Thanks for reminding me

250.25, for starters

I knew it could do it. 👍 Congratulations! 👍 and I swear the SRT4 can do it too. I'll have to try it again.

Not yet. I havn't tried in a couple months... and I'm sticking with my above excuse and blaiming my failior on the wine. :dopey:

I've mostly been working on geting my license scores better (that's just how anal I am). I've got all silver and golds on A and B now.

Make a leaderboard in post #1

A rule could be that only cars that are not in the 300 Mph can enter this one

ive only gotten a Fiat 500 to 150mph, btw......which, would be scary fast in real life considering how tiny those things are.....will post a photo later....
