Leftlanenews.com
The new Audi R8 — due for its official unveiling no later than the Paris Motor Show in September — was caught by spy photographer Ewans T this week in testing. Prototypes of the vehicle — based on the Audi Le Mans concept — have been spotted before, but the latest round of test cars feature less disguise than ever before. The R8 is expected to have the same 425 horsepower V8 engine as the Audi RS4, but weight just 3500 lbs, compared to the RS4's 4200 lbs. Those figures should be good for a 0-60 mph time in the low-4.0 second range. It is based on the Lamborghini Gallardo platform. The car will likely be priced against the BMW M6, Aston Martin Vantage, and Porsche 911

Its still a good looking car...

Thanks for posting the news YSSMAN!! It is a very pretty car indeed.

I really like the direction Audi is going with their car designs as of recent. I never liked the old TT, but now the new TT looks pretty nice!

My stinking reaks of carbon-fiber goodness...that is one beautiful piece of machinery.

Based on the Lamborghini Gallardo...so it will be almost a less-expensive Lamborghini excluding the engine?!

Sa-weet.

Audi has to be very careful with how they are pricing the car and how it is going to perform. I doubt they are going to have it outdo it's Lamborghini cousin, despite the fact the target is the Porsche 911.

Aim for the Carrera S at about $85-90K USD, and they should have a winner. But generally speaking, I'd rather have mine V8-powered from the RS4...

Does anybody else think that the space between the side air intake and the rear wheel is too big?
At this stage, I prefer the concept... I'll wait for better pics :)

I HATE the proportions of that car!:yuck: The rear wheel is FAR too rearward. It needs to be brought up at least 8-10 inches for me to even consider liking this car. It's a shame too, because the rest of the car's quite nice, but because the proportions are so off, I'm gonna have to file this one in the ugly category.:guilty:

Revolution.

Yeah I agree with that.

The chances of us seeing a 600bhp bi-turbo version is very likely. This car is going to get officially unvieled in 59 days.

Why are the chances of a 600bhp version high? Because the next audi rs4/rs5 is going to 500bhp and the RS6 is gonna get 550hp+. The flagship will have to be the most powerful at some point, and the TT will get a 350hp version and that could possibly run alongside the entry level R8 if the weights down etc.

Jees, thats an ugly car. I love its ass but God, please change the front :ill:

Isn't this the Le Mans concept car?

So that means Audi's new supercar? (Did they have a supercar already before?)

I think it is a very good looking car, but I would like the roof to be lowered down a bit. Quite interesting how its built off from the Gallardo's platform, since it should help make it cheaper to produce. I still love the Lamborghini Gallardo over this though. :sly:

The front grill looks weak with the number plate holder.

The roof is too high.

The rear is too stretched.

Let me hear you say dis-proportion-ate people!

Telling by the photos, I think it's a gorgeous looking car. Very modern looking front-end, I'd give it two thumbs up. 👍👍

For a supercar it has small brake rotors.

If you're talking about the top picture, i think you are seing the hub, the disks are there, but are much darker (will it have carbon brakes?)

I know beauty is in the eye of the beholder and it's all a matter of opinion but I fail to see how this car looks any better than cars like the 6series etc (I know not everyone hates it, but alot seem to.)

I really liked to concept car, Audi Le Mans Quattro

It's just the little things. Like the grill is 2 inches high and the rear wheel a few iinches further forward etc.

It will have carvbon brake discs, as an option atleast.

I really don't see what the stylistic problems are with the car. Granted there are a few touches that can be altered, but generally speaking, it looks great. Better than a 911 I'd say, especially when it comes to innovation.

It might just be the angle, but with the production modell the whole car seems to have been squashed down a bit, pushing everything outwards (rear wheel further back, grill lower, headlights lower). Even the roofline seems lower. Probably because it had to share more chassis parts with the Gallardo? It's not bad, but I agree that the concept is much better. Much more aggressive, too.

It stayed pretty faithful to the Le Mans concept.

It stayed faithful to the design elements, but they're arranged differently. It's the subtle changes in the frame, the slightly different angle here or there, and the feel of the car is lost.

Compare the Alfa Romeo Brera concept to the production model. Same overall lines, same lights, same layout, but there's slight differences in the roof line, the hood, all of which makes the car look so frumpy on the road.

Don't know if that makes sense, but I think when we see final pictures -- at the same angle -- of both cars, it will be more obvious.

Today I remembered why this car is so useless when you can buy a car (with the same engine no less) that would be so much faster. And you can ever buy these Spykers in the U.S. now!

Why do concepts and prototypes look beautiful, yet the final-piece looks terrible?

The same thing happened with the Nissan Sports Concept/Tiida.

Nevertheless, priced around the 85-90k range, it should be a winner.

You can see some of the camouflage they have used, on the side vents etc. I have no worries for the final officially released version.

i know you all cant wait to see the final version. Pictures are a no no. So let me describe some more details:

-the Engine is visible
-19" light weight wheels: 235 front, 295 back
-you will get LED day driving light, 12 per side, under main projektor going upwards
-to bring out the back air intakes, you can order the car with a two tone color combo
-no other engine set-up within 2007
-no smaller engine than the V8 (no plans so far)
-power increase more than 5HP
-you will be amazed by the weight..."
