How Big is GTP?

A side-note from the thread on the 50TB DVD was a remark G.T made that GTP would fit on that 50TB 20 times or more. I thought that GTP would be a lot smaller, 10GB or so, but I acknowledged I could be monstrously wrong. Duck thinks it's at least 100GB. So, Jordan...are you willing to give us a rough figure on the storage space needed for GTP? When I said 10GB I was only thinking about the forum content, but as Duck said the attachments (and Videos and Gallery) would obviously contribute a lot to the overall figure...

I don't have the exact total of the sum of all the parts, but it would fall somewhere between 10-12 GB.

That will probably go up very quickly with the new galleries. :)

You're organised! If you had me in charge it'd be 3 times that, and 2 3rds would be old, unused files

Just out of interest, how big is the mysql database for the forums?

Wow, I waaaaay overestimated. I think I got confused with you saying, over a year ago, that you get over 2TB OF BANDWIDTH USAGE per month.

Yeah, that was a crazy time!

I believe it was around 2.1 GB's the last time I checked, with 1.9 GB's of attachments (in the file system). There's 5.38 GB's of videos, around 600 MB's of screenshots, and a lot of smaller files associated with the software and Game Guides database.

I've always wanted to ask what was so special about March 16, 2006 but didn't feel it warranted a new thread. This one seems to fit the bill reasonably.
Most users logged on on that day.

Is there a reason for that, are there huge fluctuations in logons or is every day same same.
Just my curiosity kicking in here. :)

AMG.

Every day is pretty much the same, with typical fluctuations going on throughout the week. Historically, Mondays are by far our highest traffic days, slowly tapering off until Sunday, which is our lowest. With the niche target of our site, long-term traffic spikes are almost directly related to news of the Gran Turismo series. Average gamers and general automotive enthusiasts are most interested in the game when there is something new about it, while the real fans of the game, long-term community members, and the steady flow of new GT players keep traffic at a pretty even level. This time between major releases and news announcements is what often makes it difficult for game-related communities to hold up long term, but the depth of the GT series and our highly diverse forums keeps things interesting year-round.

But, it also makes it difficult for me, because at any time we could be flooded by another 1,200 concurrent users or more. I have to maintain a scalable backend infrastructure capable of handling such load at a moment's notice, as any one post with "breaking news" could draw international attention from the gaming media (such as Amar212's thread which experienced 400+ concurrent users all by itself). Such an infrastructure is not so difficult to support when you have the steady traffic (and ad revenue) of thousands of concurrent users, but when your typical traffic (...and ad revenue) is much less it keeps expenses unnecessarily high. You wouldn't believe just how critical Premium users like yourself really are. 👍

Haha, I could fit almost 20 GTPs in my HD! (180 GB, comp said 200 though)

Imagine how much more bandwidth a chat would cause...

Maybe that's one of the resons why its not included in the current GTP...

I think it would be neat though, like DeviantArt, to have a separate chat section.
