An interesting Week 4 leads into the final week of September. What we have is a collection of games guaranteed to light some fires. A lot of chaos happened last week, but really now... do you REALLY think teams are going to ease up anytime soon? Not going to happen. You keep playing until you can beat the other team's asses. So let's start this bad boy.

WEEK 4 - SUNDAY SYNOPSIS
You don't see too many Sunday college football games. Some people probably pay no mind on college because it's all about the NFL. A game took place in Birmingham, AL between two rivals of Division 2's SIAC. They settled their score in a special Sunday evening game even while NFL action took center stage.

DIVISION 1-A GAMES
(No 1-A games were reported)

DIVISION 1-AA GAMES
(No 1-AA games were reported)

DIVISION 2 GAMES
"Miles Away from Ordinary" Stillman vs. Miles (RIVALRY GAME: Steel City Classic - Legion Field - Birmingham, AL)
Love your NFL action? This isn't your thread. Love college and pros? This is a game you probably missed on ESPNU. It's time for some black college football courtesy of Stillman College and Miles College of the SIAC. Let's meet Stillman. Stillman College can be found in a very popular city. Let me give you a BIG hint- Crimson Tide. That's right! Tuscaloosa, AL. Stillman lost their first game on the schedule when they lost to their rivals of Tuskegee University. The Stillman Tigers have been just that on offense- still. They are 1-2 so far. Their work won't be any easier when they meet Miles College. Miles is all smiles in looking to tear apart their conference rival with Stillman. The Miles Golden Bears are going to be as golden of bears in the SIAC like California's Golden Bears are in the Pac-10. This game is the Steel City Classic. The name of this game is quite conflicting for two reasons. Reason 1: When you think of the Steel City, what do you think of? Pittsburgh. Reason 2: There is already a rivalry game in Birmingham, AL with the Magic City Classic between the SWAC's Alabama A&M and Alabama State. Anyhow, we have a game to talk about.

ESPNU televised the game at 6PM EDT while most NFL games were either in Halftime or in the early 3rd Quarter. Stillman was in trouble early when their first play from scrimmage saw the rock fall into Miles' hands by way of an interception. Then Miles' first play from scrimmage was a 1st and Goal pass for a touchdown. Stillman blocked the extra point. Stillman drove the ball down the length of the field and score. But unlike Miles, Stillman got in the PAT without it getting blocked. That would be the score after one quarter. I wasn't feeling too good this Sunday. I felt a little sick and still a bit sick as of right now. Thankfully, I don't feel as bad as Miles felt after this game. (21-14; Stillman)

DIVISION 3 GAMES
(No Division 3 games were reported)

JOHN'S EXTRAS

--- BEEN A BIT SICK TODAY ---
What sort of began with a toothache persisted into a pounding headache. Now I'm sort of battling this toothache and a bothery throat. It's still bothering me and all. Just that the headache is gone. But I'm okay.

Sounds like you need a dentist, unless you grind your teeth at night. They have mouth pieces that can help with that.

I would probably see a dentist first.

Get better, man.

Thanks a lot, FoolKiller. I appreciate that. For your reward, I'll add another entry to the profile list.

And there is your WKU profile.

COLLEGE FOOTBALL STUDENT LOUNGE
Now I'll just come up with some random stuff.

Away from profiling Western Kentucky, I'm just hopeful of the Houston Cougars doing a great job and keep on doing a great job. It's been a while since we've had a successful Cougar unit. Little by little, Houston is getting a little national attention, especially with quarterback Kevin Kolb. Kolb is an efficient passer. You can read more on Kolb here: { http://uhcougars.cstv.com/sports/m-footbl/mtt/kolb_kevin00.html }, and also read about how he racks up another Offensive Player of the Week honor: { http://conferenceusa.cstv.com/sports/m-footbl/spec-rel/092506aaa.html }. I learned that the Houston Cougars are 4-0 for the first time since 1990. They may have a tough game ahead of them (oh, like taking on Oklahoma State isn't tough enough!) in Miami. At 6PM EDT on ESPN2, Art Briles will bring Kevin Kolb and his boys into South Beach to look for a signature win. Nothing can be more gratifying than beating Miami. We will not know if Kolb and his team will get it done at the University of Miami. I predicted Miami to beat Louisville, and we all know what happened two weeks ago. Houston will have to do something incredibly surprising to win this game. On top of that, Houston teams have a tough time winning on ESPN or ABC. I say that Miami will get themselves back at .500 this Saturday. I don't like Houston's chances even though Miami has slumped so far. But I will say this- if Houston wins at Miami, we may just see them into the Top 25. If Houston's male basketball team knocked off LSU and Arizona to be ranked, then imagine what a win against Oklahoma State and Miami would do for Houston? And if they are ranked, then they need to keep the pressure going. It will still be a lot of work to be highly-ranked and in staying there. I'll offer predicted scores when I get some game previews. Here's more info on how the Cougars have done so far and their date at Miami: { http://uhcougars.cstv.com/sports/m-footbl/spec-rel/092406aaa.html }. This game can be HUGE as to how well their season goes heading into the midpoint of the regular season. You get six wins or more - welcome to the Bowl Season. You get nine wins or more and in a BCS conference- you're BCS bound. C-USA isn't one of those BCS conferences. They can still make some noise when they want to.

So I'm very proud of one of my own teams doing well and getting a little recognition in the process. Now they need to keep it up.

DID YOU KNOW...
(1.) ...that the nickname "Hilltoppers" comes from the fact this university resides on a hill overlooking Bowling Green? Also included is a view of the Barren River Valley as part of the view.
Sounds great until you walk it every day. It seems that whomever planned the layout thought it would be funny to put the dorms at the bottom and the classes at the top. It's the only university I know where the Freshman 15 means you will lose 15 pounds.

(6.) ...that their football team won the 1-AA National Championship in 2002?
One year after I transferred. Figures, huh.

FAMOUS ALUMNI (I always consider this part fun for some reason):
John Carpenter - film director.
Just to give an interesting side note to this. The movie Halloween was filmed in Bowling Green and all the street names and locations mentioned in the film actually exist in Bowling Green, which really can unnerve you when watching it late at night.

"The Muckrakers" - rock and roll band
YES!!! Have you actually heard of these guys or were they just listed? We went to WKU at the same time. I even have a bootlegged copy of the show they put on at Gibson's Cafe in Nashville. That was when they still did mostly cover songs, although it did have a few of their originals sich "The Stripper Song". They're kind of a Louisville-area band now. They would put on shows at the Happy Inn, which was just across the street from Rhodes-Harlin Hall, my freshman year dorm. It was a small Chinese place where the owner, Tom, could be seen in the back cooking with a cigarette hanging out of his mouth, but no one cared because the food tasted good (I have yet to find a better General's Chicken) and he never checked IDs. It was such a campus classic that The Muckrakers even wrote a song about it.

"Nappy Roots" - hip-hop group
They filmed a video in my home town of Taylorsville. I'm not a fan so I can't remember for which song. Supposedly one of the members is from there, but I had never heard of him.

Let's keep the talk going. I was going to release this post yesterday. But unfortunately, more action will take place. So I have to give you some archived extras. But first, I'll have for you a score in Conference USA. The synopsis is forthcoming.

WEEK 5 - TUESDAY SYNOPSIS
The only Tuesday action seen was between two Conference USA conference rivals in Orlando. This game at the Citrus Bowl would see one "golden" team go away with a golden win while the other gets a silver loss.

DIVISION 1-A GAMES
"Gold Standard" Southern Mississippi at Central Florida
This game is a Conference USA battle between a great C-USA team and a fast-improving C-USA team. These two teams are pretty equal in almost every respect. So let's meet the two schools. The University of Southern Mississippi was one of the different schools affected by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. They play on a football field with wonderful Southern surroundings. The Golden Eagles are sparkling with confidence in taking on Central Florida. Southern Miss is a team that doesn't kid you with cheapness. They'll be the crew that will punch you in the mouth, drag you by the neck, and pound the holy hell out of you to win. Oh and by the way... it's the alma mater of future NFL Hall of Famer, Brett Favre. We're at the Citrus Bowl. I bet Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse are enjoying this Tuesday night game from the Magical Kingdom apart from making little kids' dreams come true. Mickey and Minnie obviously are proud of the University of Central Florida because it's a chance to see their place enjoy college football. Mickey and Minnie must have graduated from UCF. They, along with other members of Walt Disney Land love Golden Knights' football. Too bad UCF's defense is one of the worst defenses in the nation. Their secondary is just as bad. One team will set the gold standard for C-USA football. Which one? Let's do this, players! The game was on ESPN2 with the announcing crew being Rece Davis, Lou Holtz, and Mark May. It's also the city Lee Corso proudly cheap plugs at times.

The Golden Eagles were shining brighter than their Golden Knight counterparts after one half. USM led 10-0 over their UCF counterparts. The 3rd Quarter ended with a USM field goal to make it 13-7 with 10 seconds left in the third. After a great punt by USM to the 1-yard line, the UCF QB was picked off with a defender RIGHT THERE in picking off UCF. They wanted a 6+2, but only got 6 as the 2-pointer failed. So it's 19-7. It's 5:51 left in the game as a touchdown + 1 makes it 19-14. They need to Onside Kick and try not to get picked off (granted they get the ball back). UCF fell apart in the end. And in the end, USM rolls. (19-14; Southern Mississippi)

* A reviewer from the Oklahoma State/Houston game reviewed a play that was not reviewable. The replay official for this game was suspended one game. This was a game which ended in the University of Houston picking up a 34-25(?) win over Oklahoma State.

JOHN'S EXTRAS

--- EASY MONEY! ---
Did you know that 1-AA teams pocketed some pocket change after taking down some Division 1-A?

$300,000 - to New Hampshire in beating Northwestern

$275,000 - to Montana State in beating Colorado

$250,000 - to Southern Illinois in beating Indiana

$225,000 - to Portland State defeating New Mexico

So let me think about if some other team could topple a 1-AA team. Can you imagine how much would be pocketed if...

1.) Grand Valley State beats Michigan in Ann Arbor?
2.) Mount Union defeats Ohio State in Columbus?
3.) Savannah State (yes, that horrible team that stinks in football AND basketball) beats Georgia?
4.) Southern University beats Louisiana State?

Imagine these possibilities, my friends.

--- UNIQUE NICKNAMES ---
This thread will use football teams and non-football teams. Some people do get offended on the notion that every team shouldn't be called a certain thing. For example, Bulldogs can be overused a lot. Teams with "Bulldogs" as their nickname in football and basketball include Georgia, Mississippi State, Gonzaga, North Carolina-Asheville, the Citadel, Alabama A&M, and that sort of thing. Or take the "Cougars." Cougar teams include Houston, Brigham Young, Washington State, Chicago State, and stuff like that. Most popular are Tiger teams. You have Louisiana State, Auburn, Texas Southern, Clemson, Memphis, Pacific, Towson, Princeton, Tennessee State, and so on. There's even Wildcats. Wildcat teams consist of Kentucky, Kansas State, Villanova, New Hampshire, Binghamton, Northwestern, Weber State, Bethune-Cookman, Arizona, Chico State, Central Washington, and so on.

Some schools have more unique nicknames that you probably won't see too many teams use. For example (not limited to):

Navy Midshipmen
Iowa Hawkeyes
Loyola University of Chicago Ramblers
Saint Louis Billikens
Virginia Tech Hokies
Alabama Crimson Tide
Coastal Carolina Chanticleers
Mississippi Valley State Delta Devils
Xavier Musketeers
Portland Pilots
Richmond Spiders
California State-Northridge Matadors
Wisconsin-Green Bay Phoenix
La Salle Explorers
Texas Longhorns
North Carolina Tar Heels
Murray State Racers
Alaska-Fairbanks Nanooks
Chaminade Silverswords
Millsaps Majors
Florida State Seminoles
Arkansas-Monticello Boll Weevils
Lincoln Memorial Railsplitters (Sebastien Telfair, anyone?)
Texas A&M-Kingsville Javelinas
Puerto Rico-Bayamon Vaqueros
University of the District of Columbia Firebirds
Baptist Bible College Defenders
Slippery Rock Rock
Brooklyn College Bridges
Ithaca Bombers
Washington and Jefferson Presidents
Webster Gorlocks
Nebraska Wesleyan Prairie Wolves
Texas-Dallas Comets

And you go from there. And yes, the teams you may have never heard of actually do exist. Some people probably think teams tend to run out of ideas for nicknames. But you know, this is college. It isn't like pro sports where only one team carries a specific nickname while everyone else has to use different names. I think it even applies to variations of the nickname. Take Middle Tennessee State and Mount Union College, for example. MTSU's crew are known as the Blue Raiders while Mount Union's crew are known as the Purple Raiders. They are still Raiders regardless. Or take the basketball schools with Niagara (Purple Eagles) and Marquette (Golden Eagles). Still Eagles. Get this- there are over 320-333 Division 1 teams in basketball. There are probably the same number for Division 2 and Division 3 schools. Can you REALLY say that all of those schools actually know of and care about what nicknames have been used and what hasn't? Should Auburn have to call themselves the War Eagles with that eagle flying around Jordan-Hare Stadium during Auburn home games? Should Kentucky come up with something related to Blue Grass? The reason why I didn't mention the Florida Gators is because there are Gators of non-football, Division 2 school, San Francisco State. I didn't mention the Michigan Wolverines because there are the Wolverines of non-football, Division 1 school, Utah Valley State. There is also a Division 3 football school called Grove City, which also has Wolverines. Credit my knowledge of these teams by my little registry of schools. I use two registries to quickly recall certain teams by their nicknames. I use one for college football teams and one for college basketball teams. Check the next section if you want to make your own like I do.

--- HOW TO MAKE YOUR OWN REGISTRY OF TEAMS AND CONFERENCES ---
The registry I've made for my own personal use refers to the given teams who compete in a certain conference. I save my little entries into a *.TXT file so that I don't have to worry about formatting and all this other hullabaloo. Here is a sample entry that I use for my football registry:

Pacific-10
Arizona {Wildcats; Tuscon, AZ}
Stanford {Cardinal; Palo Alto, CA}
Washington {Huskies; Seattle, WA}
UCLA (California-Los Angeles) {Bruins; Los Angeles, CA}
Oregon {Ducks; Eugene, OR}
USC (Southern California) {Trojans; Los Angeles, CA}
Washington State {Cougars; Pullman, WA}
Arizona State {Sun Devils; Tempe, AZ}
California {Golden Bears; Berkley, CA}
Oregon State {Beavers; Corvalis, OR}

The teams aren't indented in this sample because online posts don't really have indentions to them. I usually have the deal like an outline. The top heading is the specific conference. Everything below are the colleges and universities which play in that specific conference. I put all the other information in brackets {} . The school's nickname is what goes first in the brackets followed by the location of the school. My basketball registry is a bit different, but follows the same format. Take a look at this example:

Big East
^=Syracuse {Orange; Syracuse, NY}
^Notre Dame {Fighting Irish; South Bend, IN}
^=Connecticut {Huskies; Storrs, CT}
^=Pittsburgh {Panthers; Pittsburgh, PA}
^Villanova {Wildcats; Philadelphia, PA}
Providence {Friars; Providence, RI}
^=Rutgers {Scarlet Knights; Pisc...way, NJ}
St. John's {Red Storm; Jamaica, NY}
^Georgetown {Hoyas; Washington, D.C.}
^=West Virginia {Mountaineers; Morgantown, WV}
Seton Hall {Pirates; South Orange, NJ}
Marquette {Golden Eagles; Milwaukee, WI}
^=South Florida {Bulls; Tampa Bay, FL}
Depaul {Blue Demons; Chicago, IL}
^=Cincinatti {Bearcats; Cincinatti, OH}
^=Louisville {Cardinals; Louisville, KY}

Again, the same format applies. But since this is another sport, not all of the same teams will be in the conference. I use football as my reference point as to what schools I've heard of and what I haven't heard of. The same format still applies with the brackets. But note what is attached to the school names. A carat (^) accompanies some schools, and even an equal sign (=). This goes back to my football reference. Colleges and universities with a carat have a football team. Colleges and universities with a carat and an equal sign means that the same conference played in basketball is the same conference in basketball. So as you can tell, Syracuse, Connecticut, Pittsburgh, Rutgers, West Virginia, South Florida, and Cincinatti play football and basketball in the Big East. It is a mistake, but I forgot to include Louisville in my registry. Honest error. Also note that Notre Dame, Villanova, and Georgetown have football teams, but not in the same conference. Notre Dame is a Division 1-A Independent (imagine if they were a Big East team RIGHT NOW), Villanova plays in the soon-to-be-unsponsoring-football Atlantic-10, and Georgetown plays in the Patriot League. Any school that doesn't have carats or equal signs do not have a football team at present. The most recent one to sack football was St. John's back around 2001 or 2002. And as you can see, Providence, St. John's, Seton Hall, DePaul, and Marquette don't have football teams. You have to update your registry a lot when seasons and teams change conferences. Take the Southland Conference in basketball. Recently, Central Arkansas wants to join the Southland Conference while the WONDERFUL basketball team at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi will join the Southland Conference for basketball this season. You're going to have to update your little registry. Since I cover as many teams as I can for as many people as I can, I HAVE to include all these different teams to know exactly what teams I'm talking about as well as where the campus is stationed. So if you want to do that in recognizing your conferences, then do that. Make two of them if you follow football and basketball. Maybe do others if you follow other NCAA sports like soccer or hockey. And that's how you do one of these. If there are any teams you don't know about or know where they are from, you'll have to look up the school's athletics website. Some conference websites will be gracious enough to let you in on what exact nickname the school's team has. It's a lot of work, but you get to see the nation and all the different colleges and universities that compete.

--- UPDATE ON DENTAL CONDITION ---
GTPlanet, I will have to go to the dentist to have some wisdom teeth removed. It's going to happen this Thursday morning. It's said that I may miss about 2-3 days. Only school day I'll miss is Thursday. I have no weekend classes, so no worries. If it turns out that I am not able to take down scores and give you the scores from the day, then I'll trust that you all can help fill in for me and talk about the games that took place if I'm unable to get any scores in. I really hope to get Saturday's scores out of the way because Saturday is where the real fun takes place. This season, I look to cover games in Divisions 1-A through 3 in NCAA competition.

Either I can try to submit scores to you all, or I hope you can look up the given scores from some certain college sports page. The sites I use for Division 2 and Division 3 football are the scoreboard pages at { http://www.d2football.com } and { http://www.d3football.com }. I try to get EVERYONE involved. Have a good weekend if I'm unable to get any scores and comments in between now and the start of next week. The best I can hope for is that I'll be just fine for Monday when I have to begin Week 6 of classes.

--- LATER THIS WEEK... ---

* Houston tries to upset the Miami Hurricanes in South Beach this Saturday

* Iowa welcomes Ohio State... to a potential upset?

* Rice plays Army, but with the loving memory of one of their their fallen teammates.

* New Orleans Saints made their magic at the Louisiana Superdome, now it's Tulane's turn when they meet the sorry-as-hell Southern Methodist (SMU) Mustangs.

I'll try to get in whatever I can, if I can, while in the process of getting this situation straight with my teeth. Going to be an ugly week for me. Some things are more important than my game reports on here. So bear with me and come up with your own scores if I'm not available or if I don't get to those scores. And if you want to be creative, come along with your winners and losers this Saturday in terms of biggest win, most disappointing loss, upset of the week (if any), and OWNAGE of the week.

Thanks for your concern. That's all from me here.

In case I don't get to them after going to the dentist this Thursday, here are some games of mention:

THURSDAY GAMES
* Brigham Young at #17 TCU (6:00 PM EDT on Versus (formerly Outdoor Life Channel))
* #2 Auburn at South Carolina (7:30 PM EDT on ESPN)

FRIDAY GAMES
* #23 Rutgers at South Florida (8:00 PM EDT on ESPN2)

(some) SATURDAY GAMES
I'll call the game between...

* #1 Ohio State at #14 Iowa as the "GAME OF THE WEEK."

I'm going to do something different this year. I'm going to be watching more of Petit Le Mans than college football. Or I'll turn to college football either if (1) the same g:censored:damned commercials come on again and again, and especially (2) when Speed turns over to NASCAR coverage like Petit Le Mans is completely insignificant to the Americana racing fan. So I'll basically rotate between college football and the Petit Le Mans on Saturday if I'm not knocked out in watching the coverage and able to type up my reports to be sent early Sunday morning (after 11:59 PM on Saturday). Other games include:

* Central Michigan at Kentucky
* Texas Tech at Texas A&M
* Houston at Miami
* Rice at Army
* #14 Oregon at Arizona State
* #15 Tennessee at Memphis
* Colorado at #25 Missouri
* Alabama at #5 Florida
* Southern Methodist at Tulane (collegiate christening of the Louisiana Superdome)
* #6 Michigan at Minnesota
* #10 Georgia at Mississippi

Have a GREAT Wednesday, everyone!
Take it easy and enjoy the painkillers while you can. Just don't take them with any supplements there, TO. :sly:

It'll probably be Monday before you hear from me again.

I really should be resting. However, I sort of woke up around 3:46 AM CDT in trying to chance getting these scores in to all of you on time. I came back from the dentist this past Thursday morning. I'll get into the details of how the dentist people tried to get rid of my wisdom teeth and my gaping cavity later in this report. But I'll see if I can get in these scores for you without fail.

WEEK 5 - THURSDAY SYNOPSIS
September is nearing the end as college football rules the grounds, skies, and airs for one last time this month. A tough test is in store for a Top 5 team in Division 1 while a winning streak is on the line for another team. A decisive 1-AA game in the Rocky Mountains sees a match between a 1-AA Sophomore and a longtime Big Sky competitor.

DIVISION 1-A GAMES
"Bringing SEC-xy Back" #2 Auburn at South Carolina
You're going with me to South Carolina as part of this Internet road trip. Hop into the GTPlanet Winnebago and let's go for a drive to Columbia, South Carolina! This ain't no joyride because Auburn's coming to town. The Auburn Tigers are bringing high-quality SEC football to a middle-of-the-road unit. South Carolina needs a big win. They're game enough. They are CERTAINLY some hard-fighting Gamecocks in looking to upset Auburn. One of the highlights of this game is that Auburn became ball hogs in the Third Quarter. In fact, South Carolina NEVER had an offensive possession in the 3rd Quarter. Sloppy play and "that catch should have been made" comments prevented South Carolina from at least tying the game late. A 6+1 was the difference as Auburn turned South Carolina into Gamecock poultry. Mmm... tastes like chicken! (24-1; #2 Auburn)

"Always Fort Worth It" BYU at #17 TCU
The trip continues as I welcome you to my home state- Texas. You know I love to brag about Texas. Everything's bigger here as a former C-USA unit plays in a somewhat tougher conference. TCU's riding a 13-game winning streak, and BYU wants to snap it. The BYU Cougars need no introduction if you've heard of the classic "Cougar Comeback" in the 1980s. TCU used to be National Champions way back in the 1930s or so. The Horned Frogs can also play some pigskin. This game was the debut of college football on the Versus Network, which used to be the Outdoor Life Channel. And they made one HELL of a debut because BYU basically blasted TCU for a big upset or a horrible loss (depending on your view point. (31-17; Brigham Young) *upset!*

DIVISION 1-AA GAMES
"Journey to Utah" Northern Colorado at Weber State
The Weber State (pronounce "Weber" like "wee-ber") Wildcats ruled the ground and Skies in Utah. But the Northern Colorado Bears were looking for a sweet win in their 1-AA sophomore season. They ALMOST did it. Northern Colorado upset Texas State earlier this season, but they couldn't stop the attack of Weber State (26-21; WEBER STATE)

DIVISION 2 GAMES
"Blaze That Joint Up!" Valdosta State at Ouachita Baptist
This was SURELY a blowout victory since the Valdosta State Blazers burned up the Ouachita Baptist Tigers. (49-14; Valdosta State)

DIVISION 3 GAMES
(No Division 3 Games Reported)

JOHN'S EXTRAS

--- DENTIST VISIT AND UPDATE ---
(all times CDT) Starting at around 8:30 AM, I woke up to take a shower and put clothes on. My mom took me to the dentist after 9:00 AM. I think around 9:30 AM (I had to not wear jewelry or cologne), I was called up to go to the office. From there, I was hooked up to an IV unit for the first time I can remember. I had a shot into my left arm as I was basically put to sleep. And guess what- that s:censored: worked. I was so knocked out that I was in the dentist office at one point, but I woke up to be just outside the dentist office. Hell, they could have tossed me and the chair out the window, and I'd STILL be knocked out. That s:censored: worked!!! I had to go into the middle row of my mom's van. I saw that the time was 12:07 PM when I headed to my bed. I had to take pain killer medication every four hours. I was dead asleep as I was chewing gauze in supressing the bleeding and pain. To pass the time, I've watched some TV, played some video games, eat soft foods, and drink stuff. I can talk very well with or without gauze. I'm basically okay now. Just have to go through a few more days with a screwed-up mouth.

I'll be okay, people.

--- WELCOME TO THE PARTY, VS.! ---
The Versus Network (formerly the Outdoor Life Channel) is now officially on and joined the college football party. I noticed some changes since there used to be Arena Football and NHL on OLN. Now, it's pretty much a sports network apart from its fishing material. Maybe it will lose some of its past shows just to make way for newer programming (like G4TV, Spike TV, and even Speed Channel). They mostly show Mountain West action, though. But anyways, WELCOME, VS.! More info on this relaunched network can be found at: { http://www.versus.com }.

--- RULES OF COVERING FOOTBALL GAMES ---
Here are some rules I think I'd make if I ran football coverage:

* No commercial breaks after every timeout; especially not with one minute left in the game or in the half.
* no commercial breaks after every kickoff or punt returned.

Worst at this: CBS (even with college basketball)

--- THIS WEEK... ---
More games on the way. If I can pull off a surprise visit, I'll show you more games. No Division 3 games will be played until Saturday. Have a wonderful day!

:ouch: :yuck:
38 - 17 Buckeyes

Well, that wasn't much of a game. My Hawks just couldn't get it going. Not that we REALLY would have put up much fight. But, I wish we could have kept it closer. Lots of dropped passes, a couple very costly INTs, and WAAAAAY too many missed tackles. I don't think we had much chance to win, even at home. But, I did think it would have been closer. But hey, they are the #1 for a reason, and they very much proved how good they are tonight. Congrats OSU.

Hilg

Get ready for some college football. It's Friday Night Lights- COLLEGE STYLE! My jaw and teeth seem to be more okay than last time.

NOTE: The following is an archive of Friday's action, since I didn't get a chance to wake up through the night to report these scores. If you want to see Saturday's scores, those scores are forthcoming.

WEEK 5 - FRIDAY SYNOPSIS
One of the nation's unbeatens make a trip to the Sunshine State to see if they can remain unbeaten in a questionable Big East that has West Virginia as its shining star.

DIVISION 1-A GAMES
"Here Comes Trouble?" #23 Rutgers at South Florida
Rutgers is unbeaten at this point. They'll have some trouble going down into Tampa Bay Buccaneer country- the University of South Florida. Can Rutgers stay unbeaten? Rutgers football is like Saturn's cars- crap then, much improved now. Rutgers was where college football was born. It's the Springfield College of college football. The Scarlet Knights are much improved since 1978. They've never looked better. South Florida's looking to do something their men's basketball team couldn't do all Big East conference play- win. The University of South Florida made its first ever bowl last season albeit losing to North Carolina State 14-0. The USF Bulls are around Tampa Bay, FL. Tampa Bay will be Pamplona, Spain for The State University of New Jersey this Friday Night. This was a back-and-forth fist fight. But in the end, the boys from Pisc...way, NJ got it done by a safety. Rutgers are 5-0. One more win, and they'll be eligible for yet another Bowl Game. Win about four more games, and you're looking at a potential BCS bowl. Godo job, boys. (22-20; #23 Rutgers)

DIVISION 1-AA GAMES
(No Division 1-AA GAmes Reported)

DIVISION 2 GAMES
* Southern Connecticut State at Merrimack (35-27; MERRIMACK)

DIVISION 3 GAMES
(No Division 3 Games Reported)

JOHN'S EXTRAS

--- UPDATE ON MY TEETH ---
Thursday was more of an uncomfortable deal for me than this past Friday. There didn't seem to be as much pain to suffer as I was eating. The majority of what I've been eating includes apple sauce and some grits. I tried to eat a boiled egg a little bit later. My mother chopped it up so I could eat it easier. I've also been more active Friday than I was on Thursday. I needed my rest on Thursday. It isn't like I'm totally disabled or unable to do much of anything. I've been playing some more video games in making sure that I'm in tip-top shape (or at least thinking I am).

--- UPSET ALERT!!! ---
Guess which game I have on upset alert. Here's a hint... JNasty4G63 would like me right about now. I'm not talking about Nebraska-Omaha, but Iowa. I think Iowa has a SENSATIONAL opportunity to shock Ohio State in Iowa City. I think the Columbus boys could face a shock. I'm thinking the game will be decided by no less than 7 points. I'm predicting a VERY close game. Either one of three things can happen:

(1) Iowa continues to lead Ohio State as Ohio State will have no answer for the Hawkeyes.
(2) Iowa makes a late rally and pulls the upset in the proverbial two-minute warning of the game.
(3) Either side sends it into overtime and Iowa gets a big win.

Chances of the upset happening: 75%.

--- TOMORROW... ---
* Can Miami turn up the heat on Houston in South Beach?

* Can Kentucky tame the Chippewas of Central Michigan?

* Will Ohio State actually fall from grace?

* Can Texas smash Sam Houston State to get some positive momentum heading into the Red River Shootout?

* Kentucky couldn't do it last week. So can Alabama tame the Gators?

NOTE: Thank you for reading these archived results for Friday. I am currently working on Saturday's scores.

My jaw is feeling better. It's still a bit sore on my lower left side. Sports fans have something to feel good about this weekend because you have college football to watch, or watch a little Petit Le Mans. I committed myself for Petit Le Mans, though I will watch some college football if I see the damned Enzyte guy one too many times, too many fathead.com commercials, or anything like that. You came here to read college football reports. That's what I'm giving you. Let's end Saturday with some exceptional action. And I believe in honor of the Petit Le Mans, I'll theme a lot of my game reports after racing and/or motorsports. An NFL commercial for ESPN Monday Night Football usually asks, "is it Monday yet?" Who cares (especially if you're a college football fan)? The Saturday version of MNF commercials usually notes that college football sort of... "holds you over" until the Monday night fun. I do like Tony Kornheiser as part of the MNF crew, but college football does more than just "hold you over." Who thought the 2006 Rose Bowl was better than the Super Bowl XL? Point taken. Enjoy some scores, players!

WEEK 5 - SATURDAY SYNOPSIS
Petit Le Mans is a thrill ride for racing fans. There will be plenty of thrill rides across the nation as some of America's finest teams are ready to take the green flag and kick it into high gear. A number of teams could be on upset alert including a critical Big Ten matchup in Iowa City, IA. Another such game pits a number of unbeatens ranging from Georgia to the University of Houston. There will be plenty of key matchups for all to enjoy. Anything can happen in college football, and a lot of the teams that played today will show you why this is true.

DIVISION 1-A GAMES
This batch of games will all have themes of racing or motorsports. It is all in honor of the Petit Le Mans race weekend. I hope you enjoy these scores as much as I enjoy bringing them to you. Whether you love college football or racing, I'll try to combine both worlds for you.

"Full Speed Ahead" #1 Ohio State at #13 Iowa
Imagine this- you're Iowa and up against the top team in the nation. Or here's a basketball example- imagine you're Georgetown in trying to take down Duke. Georgetown shocked #1 Duke in men's hoops last season. You just have to play hard and try to deal a better hand of cards to the other team. Right now, Ohio State's the Audi R10. Iowa is the Pescarolo Courage in trying to shock the big dogs. Not only is this a big match around the nation, but it's a bigger Big Ten game. This is a battle of the 'Eyes as it seems like all the makings of an upset are abound. The Ohio State Buckeyes were put on upset alert in Iowa City. The Iowa Hawkeyes hope to be the better 'Eyes by day's end. I really want to give JNasty some good news if this #13 takes down #1. So let's see if the Hawks cleaned house.

Unfortunately, they didn't. This was one of a few upsets I had planned, and it didn't work out for me. Oh well, look on the bright side- you can now basically beat whomever you like without having to worry about going unbeaten. This isn't like March Madness where you only win if you go unbeaten. (38-17; #1 Ohio State)

"Coker-Cola" Houston at Miami
Get ready for college football in the state of Florida as they welcome one of my Texas teams. A win for Houston can put Houston on the map and return Houston back to more of a national stage. A Miami win will keep Larry Coker in business from unruly Hurricane fans. Both sides need a win to have BIG things happen for their respective programs and states. Let's go meet Miami first. The University of Miami has been rather restless during the Bye week. Larry Coker has been under some heat, and I'm not talking about the Florida sunshine. The Hurricanes haven't had a whirlwind season, so to speak. Speak of the underdog... or should I say, under-kitties. We got Houston next. Houston shocked the Big XII when they beat Oklahoma State by nine. Those Houston fans will be locked on to to local radio network, ESPN 790 - The Sports Animal (cheap plug) and with eyes locked on ESPN2. In order for Houston to win on a holeshot, the Cougars need to keep inching up on Miami until they think they can overtake. But watch out. Miami's no stocker. It's Houston's V-8 powered offense up against the twin-turbo V-10s of Miami. Houston led 10-7 at the Half. Houston knows that they have their backs to the wall in this match. But if you're a Cougar fan, you know that if they could beat Oklahoma State, they can beat almost anyone. So don't lose hope if you're a Cougar fan. Hope was slightly fading as Miami took it in for a touchdown. They added the PAT to take the lead 14-13 after three quarters. This looks like a game that could go down to the wire. Who'll win this battle with 15 regulation minites left? They had the shot at the upset, but they couldn't top Miami to go 5-0. Houston's no longer unbeaten. Still, they played a hell of a game and at least most of America knows what Kevin Kolb and his boys are capable of. Or in this case, ALMOST capable of in taking on Miami. (14-13; MIAMI)

"Pavement Ends..." Alabama at #5 Florida
Both Alabama and Florida have Formula SAE programs with certain levels of success. Let's see if their respective 53-men rosters can kick up some dust in Gainesville. Gainesville is sort of a nice place to go drag racing if you're in Florida. Have a little fun taking your hot wheels out on the track. You're not going to get racing, but you're going to see a tight race in the sanctioning body known as the Southeastern Conference. Alabama's looking for an upset of #5 Florida. Last week, Kentucky was overtaken by Florida's offense. The Crimson Tide think they can do what Kentucky didn't do last week. But the Gators can't stand ANY team that isn't Florida. So they'll look to whoop some booty whenever they can. Line 'em up, and let's race! Give the win light to Florida as they left Alabama in the lower gears. (-; )

"" #10 Georgia at Mississippi
Puppies meet some bad boys here. The Athens boys are ready to go to Oxford, MS for a nice little matchup. Those boys would be the Georgia Bulldogs. The Dawgs are hoping to put Mississippi into the sand trap and out of commision. The Rebels welcome a challenge. But will it be enough of a challenge for Georgia? Georgia's humming along nicely here with a nice win. (14-9; #10 Georgia)

"Home Sweet Dome" SMU at Tulane
Monday Night Football saw the New Orleans Saints blow out the Atlanta Falcons 23-3 in a sensational win. Now let's see if Tulane can work the same magic against SMU in this Conference USA match. SMU stands for "Southern Methodist University." It is a school based in Dallas, Texas. The Big D in the house... which also means the SMU Mustangs are in town. SMU is a pretty bad football school, and their basketball is no better. Now let's meet Tulane University. I looked at a map of New Orleans and realized just how close to water Tulane is. Tulane University is pretty close to the Mississippi River. Tulane had been the story of 2005. It was a hurricane-ravaged school that managed to play in a number of different stadiums to try to live on without the Louisiana Superdome. They've done a hell of a job. And after a long time on the road, Tulane is back home. The Green Wave have at least some inspiration to help them out as they played C-USA cupcake, SMU. Tulane couldn't keep the magic going, but it still feels good to be back home again. (33-28; Southern Methodist)

"Pefect Tenn" #15 Tennessee at Memphis (RIVALRY GAME)
Come and get your Volunteer State love, GTPlanet! It's Tennessee meeting their in-state rival Memphis. Memphis, TN is where the game is held at. Tennessee is the powerhouse here. So let's see who'll win this game. When you think of Tennessee and racing, you're likely thinking of Bristol. Tennessee are all clad in orange and drank their bottles of V8. The Volunteers hope not to get shocked by Memphis. Memphis seen DeAngelo Williams move on to the NFL Draft. Just like Kentucky, Memphis has a nice shade of blue themselves. I love blue. Such a pretty color it is. Memphis plays their basketball at the FedEx Forum in Conference USA. They are a high-speed offense even if the Tigers don't have the firepower they had last season. They can sense an upset. But will they get it? Come along, boys and girls! We're going on a magical journey into Memphis. Just like the name of the movie, however, a series of unfortunate events kept Memphis from acheiving their full potential in this game. (41-7; #15 Tennessee)

"That's So Cal" Stanford at UCLA
First West Coast game here I'll report for the Saturday swing of games. Get behind the wheel of these two Pac-10 race machines. It's a battle of NoCal at CoCal. You ready? The UCLA Bruins was shifting through the gears perfectly as the Stanford Cardinal have suffered engine failure. (31-0; CALIFORNIA-LOS ANGELES)

"Common-wealthy" Central Michigan at Kentucky
I'm having a little fun with this racing thing. I hope you are enjoying this Petit Le Mans tribute as much as I'm enjoying bringing it to you. Speaking of "bringing it," that's what Kentucky hopes to do as they try to make a Bowl Game for the first time in almost a decade. They'll need to do it against Central Michigan University. Central Michigan is up first. Central Michigan is one of a few MAC teams based in Michigan. The Chippewas are a considerably good football team in the MAC conference. I only know Michigan and Michigan State in the state of Michigan. It doesn't mean I'm not tolerant of non-BCS conferences, though. Now let's meet the home team. Commonwealth Stadium has over 60,000 seats for 60,000 proud fans. Kentucky fans haven't been TOO proud since they haven't been as intimidating against other teams. Basketball purists will pack the house at Rupp Arena like when Kentucky smashed (then) #4 Louisville in their Battle of the Bluegrass basketball rivalry. The Kentucky Wildcats are the perfect trifecta of blue- the Bluegrass State, with blue uniforms, and with blue skies. This one's for my buddy FoolKiller, eagerly enjoying the Petit Le Mans. FoolKiller's alma mater is hoping his blue race machines beat Central Michigan's team. The Wildcats went wild on Central Michigan to win. That Bowl Game bid is in sight for Kentucky if they keep up the good work. (45-36; KENTUCKY)

"" Toledo at Pittsburgh
What cupcake? We're in Steel City, USA, baby! Hines Field is where you can enjoy football any given weekend. Pittsburgh's re-transformation has molded into a brand new offense under Dave W. Let's meet Toledo. What does Toledo and Houston's NBA team have in common? Well, Toledo doesn't have a 7'6" guy, so that can't be it. Houston isn't in Ohio, and Toledo isn't in Texas. So THAT can't be it. Only one similarity- they are both Rockets. The Toledo Rockets are looking to upset Pittsburgh of the Big East. I never really had interest in wanting to visit Pittsburgh. But I do think it's a lovely view to see Hines Field in front of me with downtown Pittsburgh in the background. Has to be a lovely view. The Steel City Kitties are the Pittsburgh Panthers. They meow, they purr, they scratch... but no. You can't take them home. They know the best way to win is to have nerves of steel. Hopefully, these Panthers will have Superman-like strength in beating Toledo. And that's all they did as this wasn't even close. (45-3; PITTSBURGH)

"Feel the Sting" #24 Georgia Tech at #11 Virgina Tech
Who's the better East Coast technical school? That's what's going to be decided. But it will be decided in Blacksburg, VA and not Atlanta. Will that make a difference? It COULD. Georgia Tech is a proud franchise from the capital of Georgia. Welcome to Atlanta where the Yellow Jackets play and they ride on them things like everyday. The boys in yellow are anything but yellow on the field. The best one can hope for is that the GT Yellow Jackets are ready to go Gran Turismo all over Virginia Tech's offense. VA Tech goes "VROOM..." against ANY offense in the nation, even if the guy under center doesn't have the last name of "Vick." Georgia Tech's been leading over Virginia Tech. VT was on "upset alert" according to ESPN College GameDay. (38-27; #2? Georgia Tech) *upset!*

"Automatic Zone" Sam Houston State at Texas
Let's talk about football in the state of Texas. It's Huntsville vs. Austin. You know, I'm a Texas-born and raised boy. We've been hated a lot. We've been known as having "steers and queers" by some people. But Texas is proud in almost every sport sanctioned by the NCAA (well, except maybe soccer). Texas is all engines go as they meet Sam Houston State. Sam Houston State is more than 125 years old. So it's only a decade younger than all of college football. The Bearkats (yes, that's how they spell "Bearcats") are a middle-of-the-road Southland Conference team looking to reel in a big fish or overtake a powerful car. Texas hopes to put Sam Houston State several laps down. The Longhorns are a powerful unit and have been firing on all cylinders except when they played Ohio State. Texas needs this tune-up and lube job to make ready for their match against Oklahoma next week. At least Texas sees this as a tune-up. Can Sam Houston State make a game of it? Sam Houston State ran out of oil and had to get a tow back to Huntsville. Texas got an easy win, but what about those crimson and cream players from Norman next week? Trouble's a-brewin! (56-3; #7 TEXAS)

--- Loser! Pack ---
"" Virginia at Duke
Perhaps if "Coach K" coached the putrid Duke football team, they may stand a better chance against powerhouse teams like Richmond. And I'm not talking about men's hoops. Or hey, maybe this is a football version of Virginia vs. Chaminade. The University of Virginia is based in Charlottesville, VA. They head into a state where there isn't a Charlottesville, but a Charlotte. The Cavaliers are not the Chevy cars that were uglied up in around 2002 or 2003. These Cavaliers are potent V-6 monsters up against the Inline-4s of Duke. Chaminade, I mean... Duke, is looking to get a big win for this conference matchup. The Blue Devils simply stink in football. Even North Carolina is better than Duke in the ACC, and UNC isn't exactly a power player in ACC football. Almost any 1-A win for Duke is a BIG win. If there was a tournament for loser 1-A teams, Duke would be one of the teams playing against Temple and Army and some other school... oh- Syracuse. Can Duke win? We shall see. Duke may want to consider taking their football program to 1-AA status after this loss. This loss hurt more than my jaw all this week since Thursday. (37-0; Virginia)

"Hot Wheels" Liberty at Wake Forest
1-AA Liberty met the ACC's Wake Forest. Let's see who will win this battle. I believe Liberty is in Virginia. They aren't very good in basketball and football, but the Flames will look to burn up and upset unbeaten Wake Forest. Wake Forest has woken up as of late by being unbeaten at this point. This is going to be a test as to whether or not Wake Forest can keep their engines hot without overheating. WF is 5-0 for the first time in a long time. See what winning does for you? Now the Winston-Salem boys can sleep better at night having won this game. (34-14; WAKE FOREST)

"Blooming Idiots!" Wisconsin at Indiana
Let's see what Wisconsin and Indiana can do on the football field. Beautiful Bloomington, IN is going to be pretty ugly when these two Big Ten schools go at it. Wisconsin is hoping not to get upset by Indiana. A Wisconsin loss in basketball to Indiana isn't really an upset, but a football one is a definite upset. My Enthusia buddy, Wolfe2x7 is in the hometown of the University of Wisconsin- Madison, WI. You can find Camp Randall Stadium (lovely place) for football and the Kohl's Center for basketball. The Badgers are going to head into Indiana to shake things up in Bloomington. The city of Bloomington is where you can find Indiana University (or is it the University of Indiana?). Their basketball prowess is amazing, but did you know that they also have a powerhouse in men's soccer? The Hoosiers proudly bear the colors of Indiana as they uphold their state's colors with pride (just too bad they couldn't uphold it when they played Southern Illinois, but that's another story). So let's see what team will pull away with the win. With almost 30 seconds left in the first half, 35-0 (52-17; Wisconsin)

"Wins and Losses" Colorado at #?? Missouri
Winless Colorado meets winning Missouri. Will Mizzou stay that way? We'll see shortly. Colorado is perhaps having one of their most disappointing seasons of all-time. They lose to Montana State in Week 1. They later lose to their Colorado State rival in the CU/CSU game in Denver. They've lost two more games including almost upsetting Georgia last week. The Colorado Buffaloes need some sort of big win so that they don't join Kansas and Baylor for world's worst Big XII football teams. Missouri is a middle-of-the-road Big XII team that has seen its fair share of good and bad seasons. Hope and anticipation is for the boys in black and gold to smash the boys from Boulder, CO. The Tigers are going to need all that firepower to make sure they don't get upset. (28-13; #2? MISSOURI)

"Quarter Pounder" Mississippii State at #9 LSU
Think Kentucky's football is the worst in the SEC? Obviously, you never heard of Mississippi State University. The boys of Starksville, MS are going into Baton Rouge, LA for a BIG game. How big? MisSU is looking to take down LSU. Either you beat LSU, or get beaten BY LSU. Live by the sword, die by the sword. The Bulldogs need not my say-so in stating the obvious. LSU the 1-A heartbeat of Baton Rouge, LA. They know what it takes to win and only lose in shockers. The Tigers are the Bayou Bengals of college sports. They know what it takes to win. Think this game is a no-contest? They got Florida next week. It seemed like a no contest since LSU led 28-0 with 12:45 left in only the SECOND QUARTER as LSU was beating Mississippi State's asses. They led 35-3 at the Half. At around 10:30 left in the Third Quarter, a big thunderstorm was coming. That's about the only real highlight as Mississippi State had very little to cheer about. (48-17; LOUISIANA STATE)

"The Little Illini That Could" Illinois at Michigan State
This one's for dougiemeats and his Illinois boys. The boys of Champaign are looking to go into Victory Lane and splash themselves in... what else? Champagne! But before they can do that, they must topple a shaken Michigan State. The Fighting Illini don't put up much of a fight at times according to some people. However, they don't give up easily. They SHOULDN'T give up because they have a chance to actually get into my "BIGGEST WIN(S) OF THE WEEK" section and not in my "MOST DISAPPOINTING LOSS(ES) OF THE WEEK" section. Don't want to get on my bad side? Beat Michigan State. As for the East Lansing boys... my how times change. One night, Notre Dame comes from behind to win. Now the Spartans hope to get Illinois done to p:censored: off dougiemeats' boys. Let's see what kind of race these two will put on. Illinois led 10-3. That's right- ILLINOIS beating Michigan State with 30 minutes in the books. With 30 more minutes left, Illinois put in a clutch field goal with a big scuffle afterwards. Michigan State stumbled BIG TIME. Illinois gets the "W" and I bet dougiemeats and his boys must be celebrating like crazy. Zook and company gets his first Big Ten win and snaps Michigan State's 9-game winning streak. (23-20; Illinois)

"We Don't Stink Anymore!" Wyoming at Syracuse
Can you believe that Syracuse is going for three wins in a row? No... re-read the sentence: Syracuse... winning... in a row... You damn skippy, hippie! No one gave Syracuse the memo that their football program stinks. They are actually winning games. They won another as the Orange are stinking less and playing better. They took it to the Wyoming Cowboys in the end. As much as I've grown sick of the cowboy and cowgirl thing, this is a beating the upstate New York school will appreciate. (40-34, 2OT; SYRACUSE)

-End "Loser! Pack"

* Louisiana Tech at #18 Clemson
Let's check in with the 1981 National Champions of Clemson University. They met the boys from Louisiana Tech. So let's meet LT. Not LaDanian Tomlinson- Louisiana Tech, you dopes! Louisiana Tech is Bulldog meat as the Clemson Tigers had a feeding frenzy. (51-0; #18 CLEMSON)

* #6 Michigan at Minnesota (RG: Battle for the Little Brown Jug)
There's something about The Little Brown Jug. It's one of the most popular rivalry trophies contestable in college sports. The two big "M" schools of the Big Ten are ready to throw down. There's trouble in Minnesota because the Golden Gophers have lost their swagger BIG TIME. Good news for Michigan is that the Wolverines took back the Little Brown Jug. A few more wins, and they'll go to yet ANOTHER Bowl Game. They hold the longest record of consecutive Bowl Game appearances. (28-14; #6 MICHIGAN)

* Navy at Connecticut
Connecticut is on the rise though they aren't the hottest story in the Big East. That honor is reserved for Rutgers (who won on Friday). Can Connecticut be that little-known that can make some noise against a shaken Navy team? Let's see. The United States Naval Academy saw a saddening Overtime loss when they played Tulsa in Overtime. Now Navy has to get it together and hit the road. The Midshipmen don't need fancy cars to make their way around. In fact, they can get on some of their ships. Maybe fly some Blue Angels into Connecticut. Speaking of blue, that's the primary color of Connecticut. But it was also how the Huskies feel after losing this game big. Maybe not as big as they were coming out to be. (41-17; Navy)

* Maine at Boston College
Let's go to the greater Boston area as well as America's biggest college goes at it against 1-AA Maine. Let's profile Maine briefly. They come from the city of Orono, ME. America's northeasternmost state sees their Black Bears head into ACC country. Now let's meet Boston College. They have one sad loss on the year. This game may help Boston College. Boston College is what I call America's biggest college since you have the most recognizable of the 28 American Jesuit Colleges and Universities. You can find many more of these specific universities in the basketball ranks since there aren't as many in football. Examples of America's Jesuit Colleges and Universities (Boston College nonwithstanding) include Gonzaga, San Francisco, The College of the Holy Cross(?), Creighton, and various other religious-type schools. The Boston College Eagles will look to rebound from a disappointong loss in hoping that they can get back into the chips. (22-0; BOSTON COLLEGE)

"" #22 Boise State at Utah
Doesn't this sound like Kentucky at Louisville- it's the boys in blue going to the boys in red. Two programs are ready to collide as the WAC meets the MWC. Boise State University's Broncos are simply a great team. No blue field action as they meet Utah. The Utah Utes know how it feels to be Kansas State and not being able to beat Baylor. (36-3; #22 Boise State)

* Kansas State at Baylor
GTPlanet, turn away from this score. It's unbelievable. The Kansas State Wildcats were denied ANY end zone love as they lost on the road at Baylor. That's right- the freaking Baylor Bears beat a quality Big XII school. Now see what reaction I'll give if they beat Texas or Texas Tech. (17-3; BAYLOR)

* #3 USoCal at Washington State
The Southern California Trojans scored a touchdown in each quarter of this game. Washington State's Cougars had no answer to the Los Angeles boys. (28-22; Southern California)

* Purdue at #12 Notre Dame (RIVALRY GAME - The Old Oaken Bucket(?))
Notre Dame's Fighting Irish were all engines go as the Purdue Boilermakers ran out of steam. Purdue needed a trip to the body shop for repairs after this loss. (35-21; #12 NOTRE DAME)

* #20 California at Oregon State
California needs to keep the heat on if they want to make it far and beyond. They'll have to do it against one of the more depleted Pac-10 offenses with Oregon State. The sunshine of California will take a back seat to the natueral beauty of Oregon. This beaty is protected by ravenous Beavers. These Beavers made nice car accessories as the Golden Bears were simply that- golden. (41-13; #20 California)
(-; )

* Texas Tech at Texas A&M
The game was 24-14 with Texas Tech leading at half. The Red Raiders were seconds ahead as Texas A&M's Aggies failed to catch up. (31-2?; Texas Tech)

* Northern Iowa at Iowa State
The Iowa State Cyclones prevented a major breakdown as they just edged out the Northern Iowa Panthers. Northern Iowa is no one's cup cake. This was just a big break for Iowa State as they could have been mince meat by another Iowa team. (28-27; IOWA STATE)

DIVISION 1-AA GAMES
Let's begin with history potentially being re-written.

* New Hampshire at Delaware
New Hampshire has the chance of a lifetime to break Jerry Rice's all-time 1-AA record for most touchdown receptions with David Ball. The Wildcats of New Hampshire is a GREAT, great 1-AA team. Delaware hopes to put on a show against New Hampshire in Newark, DE. Unfortunately, the Blue Hens didn't have UNH's number down the stretch. Despite all the points, Ball did not get one key TD reception to pass the great Jerry Rice. Oh well. There's still plenty of season left. I will continue to cover New Hampsire when they do indeed get that historical hookup to break the 1-AA record for touchdown receptions. (52-49; New Hampshire)

Now on to other games in 1-AA.

* Yale at Lafayette
College Sports Television (CSTV) had this 1PM EDT game as the Ivy League matched wits against the Patriot League. It's time to see Connecticut match up against Pennsylvania. The Ivy League is where you can see Yale go to work. Yale is one of the many Ivy League schools where you have highly-academic bookworms that can play some sports as well. The Bulldogs are ready to skin some cats. They must do that job at Lafayette College. Newbies to college sports know that we're not talking about Lafayette in Louisiana. We're talking about Easton, PA's Lafayette College. The Lafayette Leopards are going to make sure they can pin down them mangy puppies from New Haven, CT. Who'll win this race of New England schools? We go to Fisher Field for this game. (37-34; Yale)

* Bucknell at Marist
Pennsylvania is heading into the state of New York here. Bucknell University can be found in Lewisburg, PA. The boys of Lewisburg are likely gearing up for another great college basketball season after they've made some waves in Patriot League hoops. Now the Bison need a solid effort in football. They could do if they take on and take down Marist. The city of Poughkeepsie is where Marist College(?) can be found. They compete in the Metro-Atlantic Athletic Conference, which has more basketball teams than football teams. The Red Foxes are one of only three MAAC teams that play football and basketball in the same conference. The other two are St. Peter's College and Iona College. (-; )

* Hampton at Delaware State
Time for some MEAC action now as America's best black college football teams meets Delaware State. The Hampton Pirates were able to give the Delaware State Hornets a good beating. (29-14; Hampton)

* South Dakota at Central Arkansas
Let's check into one of the 1-AA Independents hoping to become part of the Southland Conference- Central Arkansas. UCA is looking to take down some of their extra opposition from Division 1-AA and in others. (-; CENTRAL ARKANSAS)

* Fordham at Holy Cross (RIVALRY GAME)
The College of the Holy Cross met up against their rivals from Fordham University. They will play at Division 1's second oldest stadium in a rivalry that dates back to 1902.

DIVISION 3 GAMES
* Trinity at Williams
Not only is this an upset, but a hell of a way to lose. The Ephs of Williams College ousted the Trinity College Bantams with a blowout win. The significance of this loss means that Trinity's regular-season winning streak of over 31 gams now comes to an end. (41-16; WILLIAMS) *upset!*

Now on to other Division 3 games.

JOHN'S WINNERS AND LOSERS

BIGGEST WIN(S) OF THE WEEK
Houston Played Great, but Miami Was Better - This was an upset I had planned, but I wasn't as serious because I'm a Hurricane fan. This was a great win for Miami as Larry Coker can breathe a little easier from restless Miami Hurricane fans.

MOST DISAPPOINTING LOSS(ES) OF THE WEEK
Michigan State Loses More than a Game Against Illinois - Somewhere, dougiemeats is smiling brightly. Not only did Illinois beat Michigan State, MicSU also lost some class at the end as they had some words with Illinois. They stopped Illinois from doing any flag planting on the "S" of Michigan State. The ESPNEWS crew said that they should play football and win/lose with class. Now Michigan State has blown two leads to two different teams... all to lose both of them. That makes the Ann Arbor boys happy because Michigan State's problems will only get worse as they have Michigan next.

UPSET(S) OF THE WEEK (if any)
Williams Ends Trinity's Regular-Season Winning Streak of 31 Games (formerly longest in all of the NCAA) - The upset win at Virginia Tech is surely a large win for Georgia Tech. However, a much larger upset occured in Division 3. The nation's longest regular season winning streak has been snapped as Trinty (of ) has lost to Williams College. The Trinty Bantams were riding on a 31-game winning streak in the New England Small College Conference. This loss was the longest winning streak in all of NCAA football. Now it's snapped by the Ephs of Williams College.

OWNAGE(S) OF THE WEEK
Panhandle State SMASHED 69-0 by the Colorado School of Mines - I'll give the OWNAGE honors to the Colrado School of Mines for the Orediggers' beatdown of Panhandle State.

Panhandle State - OWNED (by The Colorado School of Mines 69-0)!

JOHN'S EXTRAS

--- DENTAL UPDATE ---
My lower jaw still feels a bit sore, but I can go back to chewing most foods. So I'm slowly recovering. I'm in a better mood than I've been in all Thursday and Friday. So I'm getting better.

--- NATALIE'S "EVERYTHING NEW" - BRIEF REVIEW ---
Last week was a nice week for Houston's Natalie. She relased her second album entitled "Everything New." It is a CD with over 12(?) songs from the musical prodigy out of Clear Lake. The 26-year old artist is one of the newer music talents out of Houston since Beyoncé and Hilary Duff. I gave her good marks in my thread on Natalie. I'll release a much longer review of this CD in either a new thread or update the old thread on Natalie. My slightest complaint on her first CD was that there weren't as many beat-heavy songs. This album ups the ante with a much different style of Natalie. Natalie shows an edgier, sexier side. Some of her songs sort of have an 80s or 90s vibe to them. But it all works. This is a much different side of Natalie. The brief review is that out of 100% approval, I give this a very high score- 85% approval. I like her style. Full review is forthcoming.

--- PETIT LE MANS AND STUFF ---
Didn't follow racing this weekend? Like racing? Then let me give you a brief overview of what happened in northern Georgia.

* PROTOTYPE 2 - #6 Porsche RS Spyder - Maassen/Bernard/Collard

* GRAND TOURING 1 - #007 Aston Martin - Enge/Turner

* GRAND TOURING 2 - #31 Porsche - J. Bergmeister/Jonsson/Long

--- GOODBYE, SEPTEMBER! ---
This September saw the one-year anniversary of Rita. I can recall when the power went out at my house early Saturday morning when the power went out at my house. Rita almost completely missed Houston, but the heavy winds really screwed up things around here. I had to go to my brother's apartment to go live in while my house was still without power. I was playing a little Sonic on the Gamecube with that seven-pack of classic Sonic games on one Gamecube disc. I'd get power back on Monday, then return to school on Wednesday. It also saw the five-year anniversary of the 9/11 attack on America. Those were dreadful times. My brother was in the bathroom as I basically told him "the World Trade Center is gone." I hated seeing those two towers fall about as much as any other sane human being. God bless our troops defending our nation 27/4/all year. Thank you for all you've done. On a much happier note, it will be the last September day of Fall/Autumn as October will come around.

And that does it for another week of football. October's action starts up soon. So a new thread is forthcoming.

It warrants mentioning that after seasons of 1-10 and 2-9, the University of Washington Huskies are 4-1 this year, after last night's victory against Arizona. We haven't been this excited about the team since their last Rose Bowl year, 2001! Somehow, they seem to have gelled as a team this year, which is probably thanks to Coach Willingham (he should be doing something to earn that 7-figure salary). They play at USC next, which probably won't end well, but there's nothing that says they have to roll over and die against the Trojans, so we'll see :).

Hey, glad to hear you are doing better!

I completely missed the game as it wasn't being aired in Georgia (imagine that!) and I was a bit busy. In fact, I even forgot to check on scores. But I did wear my Kentucky shirt at the race. I got a few ugly looks from all the people flying G flags from their tents and RVs. I am sure my friend and I made quite the pair as he was wearinga Louisville Cardinals shirt. I can still get along with him. I've known him for 22 years and he was a Kentucky fan until he turned because he attended college at Louisville. A sports rivalry can't ruin a friendship that started in kindergarten.

Is it obvious I have little to say about the game? It wasn't much to worry about and I was distracted for 10 hours (12 if you count the pre-race activities). Just looking at teh score though I can say that I am happy to see Kentucky throwing up some big points, but I would hope our defense could keep a team this small down to less than 30. If we want a single upset at South Carolina or Georgia then we need to pick up the D. Heck defense like this makes me worry about teams like Vandy and Mississippi State. It only takes one scoring run to ruin our bowl hopes.

We now have three wins. At this point any extra wins count as improvement over last year.

I do have one question: Why aren't we playing IU this year? They've been a guaranteed win in the past (should have been last year) and look like they could definitely have been one this year.
