Winner: VQuick. Great work, dude!

Thanks to gregc and Fat Boy Drifter for judging this week.

gregc's Ratings:

Tuner: spunkyd

Turn-in (entry to corners)
Ranking (1-10): 8 - good, sharp & responsive

Mid-Corner response (whether the car under/oversteers mid-corner or holds the racing line well)
Ranking (1-10): 7 - overall pretty good, but prone to excessive lift-off oversteer. This is normally useful in an FF car, but it's a bit too much

Corner exit (how quickly you can exit a corner whilst staying in good control)
Ranking (1-10): 7 - Undramatic and efficient but I'd like to get on the power a bit earlier

Stability (rear end staying in line, car not 'jumping' or feeling skittish in turns)
Ranking (1-10): 8 - pretty solid, and good over the kerbs, but just a little bouncy

Grip (start-offs, how much power can be used without the drive wheels losing traction? Does the car oversteer excessively?)
Ranking (1-10): 7 - not bad, but decent throttle control required to get the best out of it.

High-speed controllability (whether the car becomes 'frantic' and turns far too sharply at high speeds)
Ranking (1-10): 7 - a little twitchy for me, but that may be the price for the good turn-in

Handling while braking (are you able to easily turn the car while braking, and without going into oversteer?)
Ranking (1-10): 8 - overall good, the understeer is pretty well controlled and it stays adjustable

Acceleration (how good is it? Is there a lot of traction while doing it?)
Ranking (1-10): 7 - Not bad, but doesn't feel quite quick enough.

Missing parts deduction: -1 - S3's not listed

Total Combined Ranking: 58

Final Thoughts: Overall a fairly nice piece of work - it feels balanced and can easily be driven consistently. Not overly exciting, but a competent example of FF tuning.

Tuner: VQuick

Turn-in (entry to corners)
Ranking (1-10): 7 - not bad, but it could be a little sharper

Mid-Corner response (whether the car under/oversteers mid-corner or holds the racing line well)
Ranking (1-10): 6 - too much understeer for me and can't get the back out with a quick lift

Corner exit (how quickly you can exit a corner whilst staying in good control)
Ranking (1-10): 6 - again, too understeery

Stability (rear end staying in line, car not 'jumping' or feeling skittish in turns)
Ranking (1-10): 7 - a little bouncy, especially over kerbs

Grip (start-offs, how much power can be used without the drive wheels losing traction? Does the car oversteer excessively?)
Ranking (1-10): 9 - good power, just kept in check by the TCS without too much interference

High-speed controllability (whether the car becomes 'frantic' and turns far too sharply at high speeds)
Ranking (1-10): 8 - good, not too twitchy

Handling while braking (are you able to easily turn the car while braking, and without going into oversteer?)
Ranking (1-10): 6 - doesn't like changing direction on the brakes

Acceleration (how good is it? Is there a lot of traction while doing it?)
Ranking (1-10): 8 - nice and brisk but tails off a bit at the top end

Total Combined Ranking: 57

Final Thoughts: A mixed bag - good grip and acceleration, but too prone to understeer to be entertaining overall.

Tuner: sucahyo

Turn-in (entry to corners)
Ranking (1-10): 6 - lacking bite, just tends to push wide

Mid-Corner response (whether the car under/oversteers mid-corner or holds the racing line well)
Ranking (1-10): 7 - doesn't quite respond quickly enough, still understeery

Corner exit (how quickly you can exit a corner whilst staying in good control)
Ranking (1-10): 6 - understeer again, sadly, if you even try getting on the power early

Stability (rear end staying in line, car not 'jumping' or feeling skittish in turns)
Ranking (1-10): 6 - low ride height causes problems over kerbs, knocking the car off line

Grip (start-offs, how much power can be used without the drive wheels losing traction? Does the car oversteer excessively?)
Ranking (1-10): 7 - the power overwhelms the front tyres a bit, even with careful control of the throttle

High-speed controllability (whether the car becomes 'frantic' and turns far too sharply at high speeds)
Ranking (1-10): 7 - no major problems, perhaps a little nervous

Handling while braking (are you able to easily turn the car while braking, and without going into oversteer?)
Ranking (1-10): 5 - not as bad as I expected given the settings supplied, but still inadequate stopping power coupled with too much understeer

Acceleration (how good is it? Is there a lot of traction while doing it?)
Ranking (1-10): 8 - good, but prone to wheelspin all the way to the end of 3rd, which takes the edge off the acceleration

Total Combined Ranking: 52

Final Thoughts: I didn't really like this car if I'm honest. Too much understeer in most scenarios, under braked, and too much wheelspin (I may need to rethink my stance on TCS, at least where very powerful FF's are concerned...) That said, it sounds very nice...

Tuner: stiggs

Turn-in (entry to corners)
Ranking (1-10): 8 - generally good and precise

Mid-Corner response (whether the car under/oversteers mid-corner or holds the racing line well)
Ranking (1-10): 7 - tends towards understeer, but can be adjusted with the throttle

Corner exit (how quickly you can exit a corner whilst staying in good control)
Ranking (1-10): 7 - pushes wide a bit too much for me

Stability (rear end staying in line, car not 'jumping' or feeling skittish in turns)
Ranking (1-10): 6 - another case of ride height being too low, leading to problems over kerbs

Grip (start-offs, how much power can be used without the drive wheels losing traction? Does the car oversteer excessively?)
Ranking (1-10): 8 - good, especially considering the power level and FF drivetrain. TCS is effective without being intrusive

High-speed controllability (whether the car becomes 'frantic' and turns far too sharply at high speeds)
Ranking (1-10): 7 - no major problems, just a little nervous

Handling while braking (are you able to easily turn the car while braking, and without going into oversteer?)
Ranking (1-10): 3 - for most of the lap not bad, but with one huge problem. On almost every lap I had problems through the first curve and hairpin - if it wasn't a spin then it was barely controlled heavy oversteer, most likely caused by the excessive rear brake bias.

Acceleration (how good is it? Is there a lot of traction while doing it?)
Ranking (1-10): 9 - just about spot on, nicely judged ratios

Missing parts/settings deduction: -6 - Wing not listed, "impossible" gears with no method described

Total Combined Ranking: 46

Final Thoughts: For the most part a good tune that gets the best out of a tricky layout, completely ruined for me by it's behaviour into the first hairpin. Frustrating because in most other respects it's a fun drive.

Final comments

My overall favourite this week was also the lowest powered - for me it was the most entertaining to drive, although it had it's own weaknesses. Scores are pretty low from me this week but that may be more down to the original car than anything else. It's a tricky one to tune, and for that reason alone well done to all the tuners - every car had something that I liked :)

Fat Boy Drifter's Ratings:

Tuner: spunkyd
Bhp: 242

Turn-in (entry to corners)
Ranking (1-10): 8- Pretty good for FF. A tap off the brakes fixed any understeer that occurred.

Mid-Corner response (whether the car under/oversteers mid-corner or holds the racing line well)
Ranking (1-10): 7- Throttle control was key here. Couldn’t go full throttle on some curves.

Corner exit (how quickly you can exit a corner whilst staying in good control)
Ranking (1-10): 7- Understeered on a couple of corners if I got on the gas early.

Stability (rear end staying in line, car not 'jumping' or feeling skittish in turns)
Ranking (1-10): 8- No problem. Curbs had little or no effect.

Grip (start-offs, how much power can be used without the drive wheels losing traction? Does the car oversteer excessively?)
Ranking (1-10): 4- loss of grip immediately due to no TCS. Oversteered on low speed turns.

High-speed controllability (whether the car becomes 'frantic' and turns far too sharply at high speeds)
Ranking (1-10): 8- not bad

Handling while braking (are you able to easily turn the car while braking, and without going into oversteer?)
Ranking (1-10): 8- brakes worked very well. Solved any understeer problems.

Acceleration (how good is it? Is there a lot of traction while doing it?)
Ranking (1-10): 6- except for 1st and 2nd acceleration was great.

Deduction: -3 – s3 tyres not specified

Total Combined Ranking: 53

Final Thoughts: Not a bad car overall. A little TCS would have helped. My best lap time was 2’18.193

Tuner: stiggs
Bhp: 374

Turn-in (entry to corners)
Ranking (1-10): 8- pretty good at almost any speed.

Mid-Corner response (whether the car under/oversteers mid-corner or holds the racing line well)
Ranking (1-10): 7- good on any corner. Understeered once or twice but was easily corrected by easing off the gas and letting the rear come around.

Corner exit (how quickly you can exit a corner whilst staying in good control)
Ranking (1-10): 8- amazing I could power out of every corner.

Stability (rear end staying in line, car not 'jumping' or feeling skittish in turns)
Ranking (1-10): 7- it was o.k.

Grip (start-offs, how much power can be used without the drive wheels losing traction? Does the car oversteer excessively?)
Ranking (1-10): 8- no problems

High-speed controllability (whether the car becomes 'frantic' and turns far too sharply at high speeds)
Ranking (1-10): 7- not frantic but turned sharper but not enough to be bad.

Handling while braking (are you able to easily turn the car while braking, and without going into oversteer?)
Ranking (1-10): 3- Horrible. Massive oversteer on highspeed hard braking

Acceleration (how good is it? Is there a lot of traction while doing it?)
Ranking (1-10): 7- pretty fast. TCS helped a lot

Deduction: -3 didn’t specify wing

Total Combined Ranking: 52

Final Thoughts: Good car in the corners. No real big problems with understeering. Lift-off oversteer helped fix any understeer. The brakes were the only problem. I would put at higher setting in the front for the brakes and take some of the downforce down also to help stabilize the car more at highspeeds. My best lap time was 2’10.414.

Tuner: Sucahyo
Bhp: 374

Turn-in (entry to corners)
Ranking (1-10): 9- absolutely great! No problems at any speed.

Mid-Corner response (whether the car under/oversteers mid-corner or holds the racing line well)
Ranking (1-10): 8- Held racing line very well as long as you didn’t push it to far. Oversteered a little on low speed turns.

Corner exit (how quickly you can exit a corner whilst staying in good control)
Ranking (1-10): 8- pretty much same results as mid-corner response.

Stability (rear end staying in line, car not 'jumping' or feeling skittish in turns)
Ranking (1-10): 8- Never skittish through any turn. I had lots of confidence with this car.

Grip (start-offs, how much power can be used without the drive wheels losing traction? Does the car oversteer excessively?)
Ranking (1-10): 4- this is the only thing that kills the car. Going full throttle it spins through 1st, 2nd, and 3rd.

High-speed controllability (whether the car becomes 'frantic' and turns far too sharply at high speeds)
Ranking (1-10): 8- always stable and reliable

Handling while braking (are you able to easily turn the car while braking, and without going into oversteer?)
Ranking (1-10): 8- great brakes. Never Oversteered on hard braking.

Acceleration (how good is it? Is there a lot of traction while doing it?)
Ranking (1-10): 6- except for wheelspin this car was extremely fast.

Total Combined Ranking: 59

Final Thoughts: When I first saw the settings for this car I thought you gotta be kidding me, there’s no way this cars any good. Turns out it was one of best of all the cars.

Tuner: VQuick
Bhp:284

Turn-in (entry to corners)
Ranking (1-10): 7- Good. Stable. No understeer.

Mid-Corner response (whether the car under/oversteers mid-corner or holds the racing line well)
Ranking (1-10): 7- held racing line very well.

Corner exit (how quickly you can exit a corner whilst staying in good control)
Ranking (1-10): 8- easily controlled.

Stability (rear end staying in line, car not 'jumping' or feeling skittish in turns)
Ranking (1-10): 8- always stayed in line.

Grip (start-offs, how much power can be used without the drive wheels losing traction? Does the car oversteer excessively?)
Ranking (1-10): 8- lots of grip.

High-speed controllability (whether the car becomes 'frantic' and turns far too sharply at high speeds)
Ranking (1-10): 8- handle well a high speeds.

Handling while braking (are you able to easily turn the car while braking, and without going into oversteer?)
Ranking (1-10): 7- allowed you to brake a little later than normal.

Acceleration (how good is it? Is there a lot of traction while doing it?)
Ranking (1-10): 7- good acceleration.

Total Combined Ranking: 60

Final Thoughts: A very balanced car. Still put out good time with only 284 hp. My best lap time was 2’12.583.

Final remarks: For me VQuick won. His setup was well balanced.
But if had to choose which I liked the best it would be Sucahyo’s. I had the most fun with his car.

Don't forget to thank the judges, now, will you Duck? :P

Well done to everyone who took part, good to see such high scores from only two judges! And only six points in it too. We would have had no loser this week, which is always a nice thing to see :), but only if we only look at the first post! Where have Stiggs' scores gone?

Thanks to GregC and FatBoyDrifter for judging 👍
