Don't I recall seeing a thread on this awhile back? Anyway, I think this will be a cool car. I am a bit unsure as to what it will go up against, but hey, who cares right now?

Yeah, there was, but I typed in BMW, Z9, future BMW, beamers, etc in the search bar, I got nothing.

Had we called it the Z7 or Z6 or something like that? I just don't seem to recall seeing Z9 used in the other thread.

There was a thread done on this a while back, I believe it even quoted the same story. HERE

vB's search capabilities have never really been so great from the beggning. I've seen the same kinds of problems on other forums, not just GTP.

Why does everyone (generalization) freak out when a car is covered in spy tape? Or a concept car? Anyhow, I can sort of envision how the final product could look based on the spy picture. It sort of has that S2000 look to it, but only at the rear (at least with my two eyes. Actually, I wear glasses, so make that four eyes.). I'm pretty sure the final product will handle very well since BMW makes some extremely capable cars. Did you all take a look at the other picture provided for this car? The hood looks okay. The front bumper is pretty okay. But the lights and grill for this design look pretty bad. At the most, we may see all the chrome accents around the kidney-shaped grills. The lights will seem to resemble a BMW M5. So kind of think of a BMW Z4 with recent M5 headlights. I used IE7's zooming feature to glance closer at the back of the car. And by the look of things, the rear of the car might look pretty bad should this keep up. Nonetheless, it looks like it could continue BMW's proud legacy of well-capble sports cars. I can imagine this thing having Corvette C6-like horsepower numbers. It is perhaps a machine to keep a close eye on.

Now for something off-topic. That Car and Driver link also shows the Z8. I was probably one of the few people that thought the Z8 looked pretty cool even if it wasn't very successful. Then too, I think this was before the days of American Chris Bangle designing cars for BMW. So it is a bit nice to see what it was like before Bangle thrown his weight around styling of BMW cars. I actually like the BMW M6 in design as well. The rear looks pretty off, however. His (C. Bangle) BMW styling is more of love-or-hate.

Keep this thing moving, folks.

Because it was. It was a great looking car that was built on a chassis with a drive terrain that should have made it a great car, but in fact it wasn't. The chassis was a bit too flubbery, the performance wasn't near where it needed to be, and the price... Well, lets say that the Mercedes SL was a better deal by days end.

It depends on who you ask to what degree they will call the car a "failure." I'm in the camp that the car was disappointing, but a necessary step towards what needed to get done. I loved the looks of the car, the sounds were great, but that doesn't automatically make it a winner. Clarkson shares the same view, as do most of the American counterparts at C/D, MT, etc.

...The prototype, as it would seem, is now said to be the Z4 replacement, moving that model up-market to better compete with the SL while a new 1-series based roadster is spun-off, probably called the Z2.
