REAL CAR COCKPIT... that's the plan

so here's the deal, i'm gathering information... I bought a Galant VR-4 (in real life) and it came with a parts car, the car has a full dash, front seatings, gauges, ect and no title. I need a couple of parts off of it but after i have those i'd like to take the dash out, cut the passanger side off and use the drivers side, the drivers side seat and the center consol to make the ultimate driving cockpit.

I have messaged a guy on here that has used an ebay wheel to fit it to the driving force and hopefully i'll get a response from him...

the important thing i'm looking for now is how much trouble would it be to move the shifting asembly down to the the shifter spot in a normal car??? has anyone done this???

I thought i saw a guy on the net that used something like a Civic dash for his but i can't seem to find him now and it's driving me nuts...

if anyone thinks they can help i'd love to hear from you. i'll post pictures once i get started and try to give everyone updates, i would just like to gain a little more info and get a sound plan of attach before digging in. i'm working on a frame to mount the dash and center consol to along with the seat but some info on mounting a larger stearing wheel and moving the shifter assembly to the proper spot would be appreciated. thanks!

If you use a G25, then you can put the gear selector in the right spot. I like your idea though. For a while I always had this similar pipe dream where I'd take a car's shell, and replace the wind shield and two front window's with screens, (one widescreen and 2 4:3), and then mount a decent force feedback wheel in place, and make a cool little car sim cockpit.

Not having a disposable income nor disposable time to do this are the only things holding me back.

BTW, do you have pics of the G-VR4 posted somewhere on the web? I love those cars. I personally have an B13 SE-R, and a 1Gb DSM.

Keep that G-VR4 clean cause I have a feeling that within the next 2 decades they'll become collector cars. I don't know the exact info, but I think there's only 3000 made, or 3000 that made it to the USA. 1000 initially, then another 2000 in the second run.

rock on! yeah, the G-vr4 is a pretty special car. you switched the production numbers, it was 2008 in 1991 (only 2000 of which where numbered) and 1001 in 1992 (only 1000 of which where numbered) so offically 3000, just like you said.

my G-vr4 is pretty rare too, only 58,069 miles on her as she sits right now. I just bought her from a good friend. since she set for a while, she's at the dealership getting a new timing belt, a transmissin flush, radiator flush and having a recall checked on her transfer case and turbo. anyway, i'm rambling, i can get ya pix when i get her back, just send me a private message with your email addy and i'll get em to ya first chance i get.

and about the sim, there is a guy on here that pulled the dash from a corolla gts and did exactly what i'm doing aside from switching the wheel and moving the shifter. i'd love to have the G25, but it just soooo expensive and money is gonna be tight till we get the Galant painted. the way i have it figured, making the racing cockpit (minus the buying a new steering wheel off of ebay) will run me about $30 to $45... not bad really, just a matter of getting the work done, i'm excited too becuase i drive a G-vr4, i'll have the custom built sim that'll be a carbon copy of my G-vr4 that i drive and the only car i pretty much drive right now on GT4 is the G-vr4! i'm sick i know, but i'm really proud of the car, though i've owned two turbo DSM's before and currently have a WRX, i've never really had a car that i would concider rare.

I also want to make racing cockpit in a real car. But mine's going to be a late model tuner with a custom body kit, custom paint job, and a custom interior (riced out)

But unlike the cockpit on alancath's link, my car is not going to be cut in half.

- My car is going to look like you can drive it. The dash and the center console are going to look normal, except the colors are going to mach the outside paint job.

- I'm going to take out the whole engine out, strip it to the engine block and then clean it. After that I want to fix a clean sheet of glass to the top of it to make it into a table.

- I would take out the stock seats and turn them into chairs. Then install some sparco racing seats.

- Then take my fully customized (riced) race simulator cockpit put it in front of a big hd tv, hook everything up and race.

I was getting the nerve up to try this – even though the lack of any clutch was frustrating (even considered building a dummy clutch for added realism).

Then the G25 was announced and I sighed with relief – especially when I saw the three really solid metal pedals. SO much better than the DF/DFPro.

My advice would be to wait and save then do your cockpit with the G25. Works exactly like a real manual in NFS Shift Brilliant! 👍

I cut up the G25 shifter to fit it in a Lotus gearchange shroud

Also added a Lotus wheel

And dismantled, cut down and inverted the G25 pedals

With just a couple of other Lotus parts I built a 1:1 copy of an Elise/Exige cockpit. A DF/DFpro would never be as good as a G25 for this.
When I'm in it, it feels like a Lotus – even if the "dashboard" is not Lotus and doesn't look Lotus – but that bit wasn't important to me, whereas the feel was.

Honestly, wait for a G25 – you won't regret it 👍
