What do you think is the best starter car?

Yes, I have searched the forums thoroughly, and haven't found a topic like this. What do you think is the best car to start out with when you have did the "credit cheat"? (Transfer GT3 credits)

I think the best car to start out with is the Honda Civic Si-R II 1992-1995. It's the best FF starter car IMO, and will get you through some races. Some others I choose is the 1979 Honda Civic CX (for higher difficulty...), 1989 Skyline GT-R (for great performance for only 15k!) and the base model of the newly debuted elise. (since it is light, and it is a great car to help you learn about fine tuning.)

What do you think? (It would be nice to post why you think it's a good car to start with too. :))

I'd for an AWD before anything else. You can buy relatively high HP cars at way below the credits you get (ie 276-350 or so HP with Impreza, Evo, S2K, Mustang, etc).

I'd personally opt for the WRX STi spec.C as it offers an awesome amount of initial HP, 4WD, acceleration, and its handling. Then comes looks and likes.

Even without the credit cheat, after winning a few races with the prize cars from the licences you can buy a Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution '92 model that is a great car to start. First time I started GT4 I used the Mazda RX-7 80's model. Second time, used the Lancer. ;)

The lancer ROX for 14,000cR! Also you can get an Impreza for about the same amount of money.

HPA motorsports VW Golf MIV, only $30,000, leaves you with 80,000, enough to buy a stage 3 turbo for it. Easily demolishes competition in the tarmac rallys, and loads of other series.

Oh yeah, I forgot about that. I think that the HPA is overrated but that's off the topic. If you have the money, the newest Civic is also good. Tune it, do the civic races or the Costa di Amalfi rally easy repeadetly and you have easy money.

I started with the CRX... Man I love that thing, intrestingly slow when stock, but after a little tuning that thing kicks!

The HPA R32 is not overrated, it's one of the better non-racecars in the game. I did a ton of races with it and put almost 1000 A-spec miles on it through various races and tuning sessions.

For a first car though I think I actually bought an F-150 Lightning.

I agree with Joey. The HPA R32 isn't overrated at all, and would actually be a great starter car. I went with the E90 330i, myself, but if I were to start another game I'd probably go with the R32. It's fast, flexible, and cheap.

if one likes handling, Elise/MX-5/MR2/ASL GARAYIA/TK ZZ-S are good choices.

if one likes power, HPA Golf, TVR's etc are good options.

You should get the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution GSR '92 for 9,000 credits. it'll get you through the sunday cup nice and fast.

I have said this before and I'll say it a few times in the future... the best starter car by far, transferred money or not, is the Gran Turismo Skyline that can be obtained by golding the A licence. If that machine doesn't take you pretty far, there is something seriously wrong.

An MX-5 Miata would be a good choice for a starter car. Modding it as you go you can win a fair number of race series with it.

Actually, regardless of which car is "best" for a starter, anything that can win the Capri Rally is "good enough".

I totally agree with Greycap on the pace car. You can slap some dirt tires on it and go win some rallies with it, too.

If you're not using the 100k "cheat" i'd say the Mazda Rx-7 Infini III.

There are many good cars to start playing with. From 25 years old CRX's, Civic's, Isuzu Piazza, Nissan Z31 (after selling VW Lupo obtained from B-Licence), FC3S's, to different types of MX-5, Lancers, S13's.
As I mentioned in other thread, I used Honda Dualnote after silvering A-Licence :)

As azevedojose and PeterJB said, the Mitsubishi Lancer EVO GSR in Used Car Showroom 1 for 9K at the beginning of the game is the way to go. It's probably worth more than three times that. I haven't checked, but MAN, talk about Bang-For-The-Buck.

Don't ignore good, free prize cars, either...

Japanese Hall: Japanese 90's Challenge: NISMO 400R (R33) '96

... but the WRX STi can still probably clear more content.

Cheers,

MasterGT

Im with you on this one, but i have another option...

Buy a 97-98 Civic Type R, then give it some cheap hp's (you will spend at most 20k on this). Then drive the Civic Race and win a Motul Civic you can sell for 95k

20k spent
95k won

True... Like with Costa Di Amalfi (A.K.A. Capri Rally) people tend to sell the Toyota RSC Rally Raid Car, when really that car is a true monster. Try it out on the streets, it's only 1000Kg if I remember correctly, and is extremely quick. Great sound, acceleration, may look ugly to some people, but this car is underrated, since people spend more time selling it than driving it. Try it out! You may be able to beat the JGTC's with this car, BONE STOCK! I did it before, since I got a tendency to use rally cars to kill those suckish JGTC drivers. The Lancia Stratos was quite tricky though, as it oversteer so much. Rally cars can do a little better than you expect on streets. 💡

I started out this time with a Nissan Primera :D It's a bit heavy around the corners and accelerating is like watching paint dry in slow-mo but it's decent on the straights.

HPA motorsport Golf. for only $30,000 it gives you a lot to work with. you can buy other cars for more $ but will a fraction of the power.

Not VERY thoroughly:
