I've been thinking this out a little after i tried something:

I bought a used Mitsubishi VR-4 Turbo '96, black base paint, didn't wash it at all, then went off to New York.
Well, i could basically see every color in the rainbow on this car. Not for it's crappy textures, but for the fact that it hasn't been washed.
Then i went to GT Auto, and washed it 10x, then went back to NY.
I didn't believe my eyes, the only colors on the car were black, and a very nice white shine! 👍

Now here is my theory:

Every time you wash your car, GT4 adds a shine texture, let say it's called SHINE.tx (tx as in texture)
Now if you wash 10x, the car will shine lots more then if you was it 1 time.
But now for the tricky part,
On badly textured cars, wich you also buy in black for this, the shine does appear as shiny, but it also leaves the "dirt" as in the rainbow on the car, wich tries to make black but fails.
Now does the car wash only do wonders on cars that are somewhat well textured? (clicky)

Please discuss this theory here.

Well, washing it 10 times does not have more influence than washing it once. Drive your car on dirt, and it gets dirty. The shine will dissapear. Wash it, and it's shiny again but if you go in once more will not make it more shiny. It does not do wonders on anything IMO, it's just to get your cars more shiny and I don't think it'll influence how the car's textured, only the colour and strongness of the shine 👍

Have you tried looking for evidence of this using the Photo Mode?

As stated in the first post i raced my 3000gt. I might try and do this again and make photo's.

I'm pretty sure the amount of times you wash a car affects the shine textures of the car.

This is interesting.
If you can see a difference in the game,
would you see a difference in photomode?
I'm gonna take a few pics in various places, wash my car, a lot, then take the pics again.
I'll be back with results!

Her you go guys.
I tried to get identical positioning for both shots.
I cant tell a great deal of difference.
Dirty car was used in 7 or 8 rallies before the pics.
Then I washed it 10 times!
You may find different reflective or highlight tints with photo shop.
Let me know what you think!

Dirty Car!

Clean Car!

I think it dosen't matter how many time do you wash the car. The "shiny texture", a "dirty texture" for me, is applied just only one time.

If no one make it, I'll try to get the images to give the evidence.

I've always just assumed that if drive the car for a while, it gets a little dirtier, and if you wash the car, it's shinier. Its visually noticeable.
I doubt the number of times you wash it makes any difference.

What I've always wondered is if PD bothered to make dirty cars slightly less aerodynamic than the clean ones, as they would be in real life (mostly affects the really fast cars granted, but still)

But is 10 washes better than 1? No picture for that.
I'll be trying it then, using a more bright location then JJ74 did.

BTW i can see the difference in reflections, you just need trained eyes for it

The reflections seemed different to me also, I just thought the car was in a slightly different spot than the other one.

Look at the windows :)

Take a real close look at the sidewalk the cars are at two completly differant angles. To be able to see a real differance on washing cars they will have to be at the same angle, also a differant color of car needs to be done.

Frankly I don't see any differences either, that couldn't be explained by the slightly different positioning of the cars.

I don't like to bother you guys, but I took some pics to prove that GT conspirancy :D

I used the same camera in phototravel, and the most accurated camera as possible at Laguna Seca track. In both, the position of the car is exactly the same, so next you are going to see:

Car unwashed
(After 15 min of idiot cruising arround dirt areas of a track to get as rubbish as possible)

Car washed once

Car washed a couple of times

Conclusions

- The car is always absolutely cleaned at Phototravel. It doesn't matter if you wash it or not before taking shots.

- When you wash the car just once, it's as cleaned as possible. It doesn't matter if you wash it more times, it'll look the same.

- Dirty areas of tarmac tracks affects to the car surfaces too, so the car will get rubbish faster than going only on asphalt.

- The car losses shine (Equal to do reflect textures), just that.

- Wash your car for 50cr and forget anything else. It's simple :)

Nice work alex. That's a good conclusion for me! Just look at the stealth look on the second shot! Gotta love the super-shine tough.

Nice one Alex.
If what you say is correct, which it does seem to be,the lack of difference in my two pics was because they were taken in phototravel.
I tried again in a race from a standing start, identical car/camera positions, dirty and clean. The results are blatantly obvious just as your pics show.
Congratulations Great Master!
👍

but maybe the effects of dirt disappeares in the photo mode? or through jpg or something. I could get half-good screens of the GT Auto just to be sure :P Hold on!

edit: The car will be a 1996 Prelude (also in the list)

Ok, it's been said but here is another proof.

Dirty Prelude

Washed Prelude

Washed 10x Prelude

I tested to jump between Washed and Washed 10x some times and it's absolutely identical.

Funny thing. I totally agree with you now that I think of it. I've driven a few cars till they got "dirty", then taken them to the car wash multiple times and it does seem as tho there is a progression from clean to cleaner.

I wasn't sure if it was my imagination or one too many beers at work. 👍

Beers, at work, sounds like a good job.

Anyway I think the theory is false, as proved above, still interesting thread Rayquazza.

But I mean I had cars that were really dirty. Then I'd wash them and it seemed as tho they weren't quite so clean yet. So I'd wash them again and again. Ah...it's my imagination more than likely. Now where's my bong? :D

Hello! :)
I need some help.
In B-spec mode, at La Srathe track, (mostly on the second) my Formula GT crash into the wall at full speed at each lap... :scared:
I think, that i have some problems with my console. Because, when my car goes above 200 mph on straight, it hits the wall and stop. But after a few second, she start to move again...
I noticed, that when i run a stock car at same speeds, there is no problems. But when i run a race car, it's crashing into the walls on each lap
This happens only in B-spec mode at La Sarthe II :yuck:
