El Crapitan, Al Fresco Style!

I have thought hard about this race, and taken in some of the PM’d comments sent to me about using a ‘unique’ track/car combo.
This track is one of the tracks that are not in my favourite track list, but the car married to it this week has almost changed my mind.
Also this race will only include ONE AI opponent, so those that don’t like fighting will breathe a sigh of relief especially taking into account how hard it is to get a clean pass at this track.
The car you will be driving is the Caterham Seven Fire Blade, a car that lends itself to tracks of this nature, and the on-bonnet view is a joy to drive with,
because, you should never miss an apex, what with being able to see exactly where the front wheels are going.

Next race will be a trip into GT-mode, and a fast trip at that, so enjoy the drifting, arcade style racing for this race, cos you will need your wits about you next week!

Results for the WES#2 “Life and Seoul of the Party” will be posted in the morning-ish.

Midnight GMT Sunday night, November the 18th

RULES:

You must use the settings laid out above at all times.
You must try to keep 2 wheels on the track at all times.
An occasional off is to be expected, but use your judgement and morals to decide if you have gained from it or not. If you have gained, or feel that you have taken an advantage from the off, then please bin the race and re-start.
A.I. contact is allowed, but NO penalties are allowed.
NO wall contact is allowed.
All podium times will be verified by the posting of either a replay or a photo of the screen showing your final time AFTER the deadline is past.
Any suspicious times will be investigated by either myself or where appropriate an NTSC user of my choice.
All decisions of the Administrator (me) are final, any cheating of any kind what so ever, will be dealt with in the appropriate manor.
You may discuss any splits or individual lap times, just not your final times.

Times should be sent to myself (Tyre King) via PM by the above deadline, as marked by the GTPlanet PM system time stamp.
Replays and screen shots should be posted in this thread after that time has passed.

Looking forward to this race .. great car/track/format Neil 👍 .. the A1 cars don't worry me too much , having only one to deal with won't worry anyone at all .

GT mode next race sounds interesting .

Love El Capitan but I've never (I don't think) drove this car. Should be fun, I like the idea of starting on SS's. Nice choice there Neil.

I have this car in my garage, but not seeing it in the line-up in Arcade.
Is there a race or something that I need to do to get this car avail. in arcade ?

The only way to obtain the Fireblade is to buy it .. if it's not in your Arcade gararge .. i'd ask for a refund !

Just did several laps before dinner , what a great combo Neil. First(0-83) and second gear sure are long but she handles quite nice once you learn her tendencies. I'll get a whole race in tonight, it won't be my keeper but it'll give me a goal. Good Luck all:)

I'd be willing to bet this combo has never been done here at GTP, any takers?

I tried this car once.It was fun,but the gearing...
Its weight can cause interesting moments easily. It is so light like a snowflake.
EL CRAPITAN... eh-heh-heh. :)

Hitting the mountain very shortly!

Looking forward to running a full race instead of testing.👍

Neil

neil,

great combo tho i think 36 laps is too much to my taste ...

what i wanted to say is that you might want to reconsider the +0% weight variable. as you might or might not know the weight of the car cannot be checked in any of the replays. this is the reason why in wrs, when we do an arcade combo, the weight is always set to -10%.

good luck 👍

This is a much smaller forum, and we all know each other very well.
So for now (until word gets round and more 'new guys' start to participate) I/We trust that we will all use the correct settings.

I used to run in the WRS (from Wk 1 of GT4, in-fact), and, understand and appreciate what you are saying mate. If and when this gets big enough to suffer the same problems of 'inappropriate behavior' then the settings will be done that way.👍

Neil

I can give ya some "inappropriate behavior" if ya like Neil. How come you don't have a "U" in behavior Neil, I thought yous guys always throw a U in everything :) Actually I just wanted to bump the thread.

Well.......!

I just got sick and tired of correcting your spelling English incorrectly and installed an American spell checker into Firefox.

That way I can be sure that the illiterate masses (namely you lot!) will understand what I write.

I can't adam & eve it, I am getting picked up on my nail & hammer by a bloody Septic!

Neil

Just got my first, and maybe the last, full run in. It's an hour plus several minutes long with one pit. Probably should have done 2 pits, the math works out very close, and it would have been more fun just for trying to get my fastest lap on SS's. The car still handles the same with mediums, it's just a second or two slower per lap.
Why is there only one AI for this car, I'm sure not complaining, but are there other cars with only one AI? Anyway it's a fun little car to drive once you get the feel .

Unfortunately, the PS2 can only handle two cars when the driver's car is an open top one.

I tried with one of the Elises, with and without a lid. And when the top was on, I got 5 AI's, with the top off I got 1.

Shouldn't be a problem with GT5, hopefully?👍

Neil

Sorry TK, but i will NOT be competing this week. This combo has caused me nothing but grief and frustration. I can't string together 3 consecutive laps, let alone 36. Look for me next week.

Dels only had time for one attempt .. the fireblade does not like the ripple strips and you get the best out of it changing on the redline .

Always loved this track .. and you can conserve the tyre wear here too {ran a 2 stopper .. stayed on the SS/SS combo}

Hey Del I think the 2 stopper is faster then a 1 running SM's. I did the one stop but am going to rerun using SS's and 2 pits.

Make sure you miss the ripple strip on the corner before the tunnel .. it'll save you .5 of a second ... lots of places on this track to save time though .

OK!

Finished my one and only 'HOT' run at this race. Done many starts and multi lap runs before but no full one's.

Fastest lap is under 1'50 (the vast majority are also within 1'50-1'51 range), and I am sorry to say (for you guys that is), it is a SINGLE pit race ran entirely on SS tyres!

VERY happy with it, very consistent, no spins/love-taps/panic powerslide recoveries.

Finally it seems I have found myself actually liking this course! At least in this direction.

I said I had found my Mojo in the back of the RX7, and I think I have!

Neil

Damn Neil, I was going to run it again with 2 pits on SS's but now I'm not so sure. Hey Neil , are you as easy on everything else in your life as you are with your tires? 18 laps on SS's..that's just crazy. I'm with ya on lap time average but haven't gotten under 1'50. Who the hell picked out this combination....oooops , sorry bud!

Yeah .. how the heck did you get by on just one pit stop ; agreed it is possible if you really conserve yourself on this track ... but with a fastest time under 01:50.xxx ? ? ... hail the Tyre King .

We'll fill you with a few of these .. .. before the next race .. Mojo has to go .

Read my Location!

All I do here is let the car's suspension do the work, short-shift a couple of exits to keep the rear in check and give smooth accel out, and not push the fronts too much on the binders.

Got to admit it's tough to keep the times down on the last two laps per stint, and dropped a second on the final lap. But I also found it to be a really relaxing race, and I suppose that will have helped to maintain the smooth fast lines.
Plus I really got to explore the different lines during my testing and the few partial runs I have done, and seem to have found the best compromise between speed and tyre-wear.
I just stuck to those lines and listened to the tyres.

Neil

I managed to pull off a clean one stop race all on SSs too. :)
But with a fastest lap of only 1:50.6XX & average laps nowhere near Neil's. :indiff:

ok, times sent
and like Neil, I did a one stopper on ss, not as fast mind you :ouch: but I have never been as fast as the bloke.
Just loved this buggy ! What a rev monster ! Drove like a good broken in woman, sloppy when needed and tight when it counted :sly:
Had a blast 👍

still having problems with the max drive :(
anyone out there have a manual, please pm me how to format :dunce:
