The race was won by Benetton's Michael Schumacher, the first of his record 91 Grand Prix wins. The Benetton B192's win also marks the last F1 win of a Grand Prix car with an H-Pattern manual gearbox.
Lewis Hamilton spun off a kerb on Lap 2 after a battle with Nelson Piquet Jr., but charged back through the field from 14th to claim a vital second place.

James Hunt crossed the finish line in first position but the Ferrari, Tyrrell and Copersucar teams protested the result to the stewards, because of a crash at first corner. In September, two months after the event, a decision was reached & Hunt was disqualified, giving Niki Lauda the race win.
