We all remember what the first two GranStand Challenges did for Sandblazter and @AG07WRXTR. Now it's time for someone else to have a shot at this incredible sim racing wheel stand! I'm happy to announce that GranStand will be providing prize support for the GranStand Challenge III. This new challenge which will span our March and April seasons. At the end of these two short months, we will identify the drivers with a high number of GranStand points and enter them into a random drawing. The winner of the random drawing will win a GranStand wheel stand!!


Introducing the GranStand.
The GranStand racing stand system is fully modular, allowing for customization beyond the efforts of many others on the market. This also allows for selection of a model that fits not only your needs, but your budget as well, and always allows for additional modules.

Rules for the GranStand Challenge III:
  • One GranStand point will be awarded for each Sunday night race that a drivers competes in
  • Drivers who are not on the starting grid for any reason (network issues, lack of DLC, being late, etc) will not receive a GranStand point
  • Any driver that is imposed a penalty by the stewards will also be docked an equal amount of GranStand points
  • The more GranStand points a driver has earned, the better odds he will have at winning the random prize drawing
  • GranStand points will be docked for inappropriate behavior in the lounge or on the thread (e.g. posting a public racing complaint instead of filing an incident report)
  • This prize will not be shipped outside the United States or Canada

As of right now I managed a 2.25.896 try to beat that please

I'll go one better than socalnatv. Why don't you try beating the 40 plus members here who have run more nights than you and don't have any penalties at all. Some of those guys have run 30, 40, or in one case, 89 nights without a penalty.

I can also tell you a little something about promotion and relegation. It's not just about how fast you are. It's about your race craft. To be perfectly and brutally honest, you would not have been promoted this month if you were not part of a large shifting of drivers between two divisions. You will not be promoted to D1 until your race craft improves drastically. So, try and beat that please.

Saturday Night Practice

We had en epic practice night last night.

Tight quarters at Turn 1.



Avoiding small hits to keep momentum is key at start!


The S curve is an excellent spot to go for a pass.


Excellent execution on the inside.

Anonymous demonstrates the result of 2 wheels on grass and throttle combination.


Another example of 4 wheels on grass;but miraculously I was able to keep control of it....
In case you want to know, I ended up in the grass for improperly downshifting too fast.


and a 2 lap battle begins with myself on Qwietstorm's sigths.

Last lap and again Qwietstorm makes a perfect execution of the S curve and gets a run inside @ V corner and comes just inches ahead


but at the end of the straight I'm inches ahead from taking the outside of V corner which allows me to get a bit more momentum.

I had pointed out that the combos last week featured cars that had Nissan engines in them. This week, they're all race cars.

I do count the Mercedes as it is exactly the same as the one that raced in DTM, just in road car guise.

That f1 photo book put in the auction recently got me thinking that i would like to have some shell in my pocket so i may not miss something like that in the future, and is anybody able to put something in auction?

Not necessarily. Beal has other duties he takes care of so it isn't so much a back up to the back up but just another available host. And yes, you only get $hells if you are the active host.

This was just about the most awesome interesting comic strip ive ever seen haha. Good work! Almost as if we watched the race ourselves.

@LoganMichael I didn't realize that when I was looking at it, maybe someone should take pics for all the races tonight and arrange them as a story. It would be like our very own fic.

We still do not have a host for tonight. If you have a decent connection and are willing let us know ASAP. We only have a little over 6 hours before race time and without an established host, D4 could have some issues!

NOTE for all @Photographers for better pictures without adding of effects.

@nurburgring you usually have to adjust the EV setting anywhere from .8 to 1 on the plus side to bring the light and cars to a neutral state; otherwise the pictures are usually too dark. Azure / race'em hard originally shared this with me about a week ago, but thanks! IT works magic at Nurburgring.

@Twin Ring Motegi the shots come too over exposed by default, so to fix it you need to decrease the EV value usually around .5 to .8 or so to bring the light and colors instead of being washed out.

I really like the miniature filter, How is everyone elses thoughts about that? Do we prefer no filters and just simple ev adjustments? Wolfsatz good info! Ill utilize it tonight for sure

I like the miniature filter because it brings out the colors and centers focus on 1/3 (center of the image). I used to do this one a lot on dark settings; but been trying to avoid any filters and just make use of all the camera settings to get different effects.
 
I never really use the miniature filter myself, I much prefer no filter.

Although, I have taken a few using extreme monochrome at night and the handful of people I have shown these pics to all say they look spectacular.
 
Points of Interest

This week S.N.A.I.L. will be running at Nurburgring GP/F, Spa Francorchamps, and Twin Ring Motegi Road Course. Motegi is making it's debut on GT6 in S.N.A.I.L. Spa Francorchamps is making it's second appearance and Nurburgring is back for it's third week. Without further ado, here are your points of interest for this week.

Nurburgring GP/F

There isn't a lot of history involved with the Nurburgring GP/F layout. In it's current configuration, it has only been around since 2002. It has hosted F1 races and is set to be on an alternating schedule to host the German Gran Prix. The track was originally built in 1984 when it was added to the Nordschleife after that track was deemed unsafe for F1 competition. It was determined that a new circuit be built instead of completely changing the historic Nordschleife. That decision gave birth to the new GP/F layout and created the endurance layouts for the track as a whole.

Track boundaries are pretty straight forward with a couple of grey areas where the various layouts come together. The photos below will explain the various types of curbing at the track and clear up the areas where other layouts come in and out of the GP/F circuit.

This first shot is showing the exit of turn 1. The paved area to the left of the white line is NOT part of track for this layout. It is paved because it connects two sections of track that are used for the endurance layout. You are required to have at least two tires on or to the right of this white line while exiting the corner.

This shot is taken at the exit of turn 2 looking toward turn 3. The red/white rumble strips are considered part of the track. The green area and the run off area to the right of these strips is NOT part of the track. If you find yourself out here, you must lift off the throttle and return to the racing surface when you can do so without affecting another driver in any way.

This picture it taken as you are exiting the Mercedes Arena area of the track and serves as an example of the curbing on the inside of a turn at this track. The red/white rumble strips are part of the track here and at every corner on the track. The grey area to the inside of the strips is NOT part of the track.

This is the exit of the turn leaving the Mercedes Arena. This is a part of the track where two layouts come together. The red/white rumble strips are part of the track but as soon as they end, the white line becomes the edge of the track. The green area and the paved area to the left of the rumble strips and then the white line are NOT part of the track. You must keep two tires on or to the right of the rumble strips, and as soon as they end, the white line.

Another example of curbing that appears on the inside of the track. Once again the red/white is part of the track, the green paved area is NOT part of the track.

Showing the exit of turn 9 here. The same as before, the red/white is part of the track and the green paved and other run off area to the right is NOT part of the track. If you end up out here, you will need to lift off the throttle and rejoin the track when it is safe to do so.

The next two shot are of the chicane before the last turn back onto the front straight. Once again, the red/white rumble strips are part of the track, the green area behind those strips is NOT part of the track. In addition, you should never make contact with the barrier in the second picture even if you can still have two wheels on track while doing so.

Spa Francorchamps

Spa Francorchamps was originally opened for business in August of 1921. The first scheduled race did not take place because there was only one entrant for the event. The first race held at Spa was a motorcycle race in 1922. The first 24hr race would be held in 1924. The original course was a 14km layout that featured long straights and was built to be one of the fastest tracks in Europe. Formula One would run on the 14 km layout until 1970 when the series cited safety and security reasons with the track. Modifications were made and the current layout was introduced in 1979 and Formula One would return to the track. Numerous run off areas were added to the track and the distance shortened by removing some of the long straights.
The track boundaries at Spa are not difficult to understand but can be difficult to follow. In all situations, the red/white rumble strips are part of the track but anything located behind them is not.

Exit of turn one. The red/white rumble strips are part of the track. The solid white line next to the strips is NOT part of the track and everything to the left of that line is NOT part of the track. If you find yourself out here, you must lift off the throttle and track re-entry rules do apply to you.

The next three photos are taken from Eau Rouge. In all of the photos, the red/white rumble strips are part of the track. The solid black and everything to the left of it in photo 1 are NOT track. The solid white line to the left of the strips in the second photo and everything left of it are NOT part of the track. In the third photo, the solid black line and everything to the right of it is NOT part of the track. Once the red/white strips end, the white line is the edge of the track. If you find yourself OB, you need to lift off the throttle to avoid a penalty from the stewards and normal track re-entry rules will apply to you.

This photo shows the end of the rumble strips where the white line becomes the track boundary. Any area to the right of the white line past the end of the red/white strips is considered to be out of bounds.

This is turn 5 and the photo serves as an example for the entire track. It shows the red/white rumble strips as part of the track and the grass to the right of it is NOT part of the track.

This is a section of track between turn 6 and turn 7. The white line serves as the track boundary here on the left side of the track where it connects the two sets of rumble strips.

Once the rumble strips end, the white line is the track boundary. The different color paving at the end of the rumble strips is NOT part of the track.

This is the outside of Pouhon or turn 10 and 11. The red/white strips are part of the track. The green area and everything to the right of the green are NOT part of the track. If you end up here, you will need to slow down to negate any advantage gained and return to the proper racing surface without affecting any other driver.

This is the exit of turn 17. As is the case everywhere else on the track, the red/white rumble strips are part of the track but the green area to the right is NOT part of the track. Once the red/white strips end, the white line becomes the boundary and the green area is still NOT part of the track.

This is an overview of the final chicane. The entrance is at the bottom of the photo. The green area approaching the turn is NOT part of the track. You can't drive out there to improve your entry angle to the right hander. The red/white strips are part of the track throughout this section. Any green pavement, including the exit of the section (not pictured) is NOT part of the track.

Twin Ring Motegi Road Course

Honda constructed the 4.801km circuit, which also incorporates an Indy Car style oval, in 1997 in the hilly countryside 100kms north of Tokyo. It was a massive construction project and the complex also includes the famous Honda Museum and a hotel.
The track has a comparatively long back straight but a series of slow corners and also two tunnels which allows the oval to run round the outside. The track boundaries are very straight forward as there is either blue/white rumble strips or grass at the edge of the track for the vast majority of the layout.

This first photo shows the inside of turn one and is an example for the rest of the track. The blue/white rumble strips are part of the track but the grass, as always, is not part of the track.

The next two photos are taken at the entrance to turn one and turn three. The white line represents the track boundary here as it divides this track layout from the other layouts.

The following photo is taken of the underpass between turns 11 and 12. In this instance, the white line is the track boundary. This line starts on the grass edge on the inside of turn 11 and continues to the outer edge of turn 12. This means that the area to the right of the white line is NOT part of the track.

It really sucks about the maintenance tonight. I was looking toward to another great night in the West Coast division. To the new people in the West Coast division we will return to our regular schedule next week with the new combos.

Lets hope the update is worth it. Please, please be the community features!
 
I had completely forgot about the maintenance tonight, it won't affect racing tonight as long as we get done by 11:30 eastern right?

I have no eye for the in game photography or major interest in convert, edit, upload vids. I like watching them, just not making them
