Something I've been thinking about. Those total points and the factor involved. We really need to add another factor. One that adds in the completion level.
Say the points spread from 1st and 2nd or 1st and 3rd used to determine a multiplier.
Examples-
D1
1st 64 points
2nd 63 points
1 difference. Take 1% off total after the current multiplier.
D2
1st 90
2nd 80
10 difference. Take 10% off total after the current multiplier.
This would be a competition factor adjustment.
Basically those dominate in their Division are capitalizing on the prize picks from the divisions that have closer matched racers. Which result in lower overall scores.
The D3 race being so close and tight put them way out of contention this week. This to said they had the hardest battles for the win. I think D1 was really close too. Have to look.
Edit: D1 was 0.1 Separated 1st and 2nd and 1.1 separated 1st and 3rd.
I think the 1st to 3rd gap is a better indicator for this factor number.
Just an idea. Ignore if stupid.
While you're idea has merit, we all know from the previous discussion, prior to implemenation of the current Prize Point System, I am categorically against points adjustment based on participation, either by quantity or quality.
With that said.
The tightness of the scores for overall League Night Divisional Winners indicates the Promotion and Relegation system is doing exactly what it was designed for, which is to provide close racing.
It isn't an instant system and is capable of being manipulated by "sand bagging", either your initial Time Trial or during a season of races. As time goes by however, and more seasons are run, this will fix itself and these tight races for overall winner are an indication that it is in fact fixing itself. These lower overall scores should be the rule, not the exception.
I don't think the current scoring system needs much, if any, further tweaking.
And as Shmiggz already said, having an overall winner scoring less than 70 points and 1st - 4th place being within 5 points of each other is a good indication that your division is about as balanced as it can be. Division 3 Wins that contest.
