I have a theory on the update this week.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but they usually don't announce a 2 hour long window for typical updates. This led us (or me at least) to believe something more substantial was coming (i.e. new track, track editor, community features, etc.), but in the end I think it's fair to say a lot of us got much less than what was expected. (Not complaining, just saying there weren't any major game changers, unless you run 3 screens)

Since the server update window passed though, there have been a few little updates, one by one, with another tonight. I had these ideas already, and this latest one just made it stand out in my mind even more:

(1) something bigger wasn't ready just yet (but it was very close and will come soon). To avoid backlash from a broken promise for an update, they decided to distribute the other stuff that was already prepared for release, with other small bits coming day by day, with something bigger coming during the usual window. Or...

(2) someone at PD simply made a deliberate decision to change plans, and only roll out a few of the smaller things that were going to be included this week. The purpose would be to ensure these seemingly smaller items implement well/without bugs, before trying to add something larger either this coming week, or the one thereafter. This way it would be easier to identify where any bugs or major new issues originated, rather than having to consider many new features all at once.

The Red Bull stuff was a somewhat similar story. They announced a date, then missed it. It eventually came, and not all that much later than they said. So I still think something bigger is coming, probably another track (just my guess based on rumors for this time frame). I'm already happy honestly, but anything else is welcome too! :D

So maybe it's not this week, maybe not the next, but I have an inkling that we see something more in the next 3 weeks, whatever it may be. I just don't understand the big announcement; all these little updates make me suspicious... am I wearing my tin hat too tight?

I agree with the happy part for sure man, loads of people be trippin on the lack of content they have added that was "promised" but honestly I feel like it is better than GT5 and It is the best simulator for my ps3 and wheel. and thats all I wanted when I bought it. I love driving, sooooo so much. everything else is a bonus. :D

I believe I could drive the Megane at Spa for 48 hours straight. It's the first car I've put enough time in on to make my setup come alive in GT6.

I got my first PS3 and wheel/rig setup only a few months before the release. I did toy around with GT5 a little bit because I couldn't wait (since I played GT1-4 all the time when I had a PS/PS2). However, I played mostly F1 2013 on PS3 during the time until GT6 came out.

Maybe I would need a break from GT6 afterwards, but it wouldn't be too long. Maybe 2 more days. And I'd probably hit F1 in between to celebrate the new season.

I'm just hoping Seb can finish and take points this first round btw. :nervous:

I was lucky enough to get the DFGT gifted to me with GT5 prologue, then got GT5 (naturally) the moment it came. never played before 5 really. some piddalin when I was a kid kid (still young ha) but the wheel is what made me hooked. (plus a natural growing fondness of driving and fast cars)

I am on a new DFGT too by the way, well newer.. the other one got used out for sure.
I never played F1 tho! Good I am assuming?

I'll host one if you want
I am so game to do lapsssss

Honestly, this is spec racing. Why aren't we using the spec tires that came on the cars?

We never use CS tires...and those provide some of the best wheel to wheel racing.
The way I see it, using the tires that came on the cars would be required if we were racing stock cars. However, I view "spec" to have a completely different meaning than "stock". To me, spec racing is about all the cars being the same whereas stock racing means that the car aren't necessarily the same, just that they're all stock from the factory. I guess what I'm trying to say is that we could add turbos to every car in the lineup and I would still consider it spec racing so long as everyone installed the same turbo. Let me know if you disagree though.

The problem with the current classing of tire compounds though is GTs representation of tires. If you look at cornering G-forces, "Comfort" are really like very good performance summer tires, "Sport" range from DOT legal R-compounds (SH) to most racing slicks (SS), and "Racing" Range from F1 Super-Soft (RH) to physically impossible fantasy tires (RS). Those are approximations on my part, but pretty close to how they map out.

I think you could go by weight and/or PP and have the results be both more realistic and create better racing. Street cars should range from CS to SM. Race cars should range from SM to RH.
It's interested that this would come up now, because @Nicktune and I recently had a PM conversation about all of this. If fact, he provided some very interested data that backed up this claim that he made a while back. In a nutshell, the data shows that lap times in the exact same combo were 3-4 seconds a lap faster in GT6 then they were in GT5, which is an indication that the tires in GT6 really are stickier than they were in GT5. I personally think that's a bad thing if it makes our tire regulations unreasonably unrealistic. This is a sim racing league after all, so I'd like us to have as realistic tire regulations as possible within reason. It's basically a giant balancing act if you know what I mean. I felt our GT5 tire specs worked great for us in GT5, but if the GT6 tires really are two grades stickier than in GT5, then maybe we should rethink the regs to get them back in line.

Or the pessimist might say that all these little updates since the shut down are just fixes for bugs and not adding new content at all.

Either way, we are at the mercy of PD. We all love racing (edit ->) and at the moment, this is the best option on the PS3. There really isn't much we can do other than speculate and complain, which are pretty worthless IMO.

PD will update GT6 as they see fit and when they are ready. Until each one comes out, I'll just enjoy what I do have and not worry about unfulfilled promises.

I beg to differ. There are many other sim racing games out there that are arguably better. PD wants your money. They are at your mercy. Not the other way around. Without them, you will continue to exist, without us, they don't. I really feel PD has pissed in our cheerios. To me, there is a complete lack of professionalism in the way they are silent about it all too. No real explanation, No official apology for breaking promises and not meeting their stated deadlines. No talk of a game plan. Ive played every iteration a gt. This one I was most excited for. They broke my heart. So, I did what anyone with good self esteem would do. I left.

Well, Ok. That did play a role in it too. But instead of spending my dough fixing my ps3, or more likely, downloading a digi copy, I spent that green on iRacing. If gt6 had been more complete, or PD talked to us, maybe put something on their website, it would have been a different story. I was honestly on the fence before the ps3s disk drive went out. That was just the final push. Seeing triples support come out before the communities features probably would have been the push if it had come before that Wednesday.
Regardless of that. I was just trying to help ktr. Reassure him that he wasn't at anyone's mercy. He's a free man!

I'm not understanding the hatred of PD or gt6 at this point. After trying to play the train wreck that is EA's Tiger Woods 14, who only put out one update and it was still broken, any flaws in gt6 is minor. At least PD is making an effort. They could of given us the finger and walked off into the sunset.

I think there is a sense of betrayal/bitterness towards PD regarding what was promised, what has been delivered in the 3+ months since launch, and the lack of information about when the promised content may be on the horizon.

I knew some features would be added later, but when Kaz start talking about GT7 as a possible PS4 release within a year, and hyping this future plan before PD released the already-paid-for GT6 content (vaporware?), that frosted me.

Even a statement like "Community Features will be next up, we know you're waiting for it.... Track Creator will be at least a month after that..." would be nice. Well, not nice, but it would be communication. That, Sharkb8ii, is what I think is getting the hate. I feel like I'm being played by Kaz & PD, and I don't much like it. They sure haven't said anything that makes me feel otherwise.

I enjoy GT-6 ...... am frustrated with DCs, etc., but not to the point of trashing the entire experience. I was thinking of heading to iRacing - until I heard that all they have is Cockpit View. Without Triples, and no prospects of obtaining them, I will stay right here and enjoy the graphics, sounds, challenges and SNAIL until they pry my cold dead hands off of the G-27. IMO, that is.

There's a reason I don't play anything EA. Like I said, I would have less of an issue, if PD communicated. They did with GT5 when they started having issues with modders. Why not now? Dlc was supposed to come monthly from the get go. Online community features the beginning for January, the list goes on, yet barely a mutter from PD. It's not like they are ea, and have 50 games across 8 platforms to contend with. Granted they aren't resourced like ea either. But they have at most 2 games, they aren't exactly lost in the sea. I don't think an official, "hey, sorry, we hit some road blocks, had to reestablish a new development schedule, yada yada," is to much to ask for or expect.

I'm going to try a month of iRacing, @TEX36 after this weekend, but I'm worried about cockpit view as well. I'll let you know how it goes.

On the upside, my GranStand Cockpit should arrive today! I have to help my son get some things delivered, then I'll get it set up. :gtpflag:

The cost of iRacing, from my perspective, is prohibitive. $11-14 for each track over the ten or so that come as part of the standard subsciption. $4-$11 for each car over the 15 or 20 you get for signing up. If you want to set up your own league races, it's a buck a race. Talk about back end macro transactions. Then, there's the progression. Not to mention the $1000.00 it would likely cost me to get a rig set up to play it at all. No. I don't think so.

PD yanking our chains and all, I'll stick with GT, 5 or 6, but I doubt I will buy 7 and a PS4 on release. I'll wait a few months to see how that pans out for the folks that do make the jump.

I get where you're coming from, I really do. But after the horrible experience with EA, I can live with these short comings. Plus with the camaraderie I have discovered thru SNAIL, gt6 is the most fun I had with a video game. Which is why I may be more tolerant of the lack of communication from PD.

No that makes sense. Spec miatas IRL are anything but "stock" miatas. However I feel that when we upgrade the tires on some cars it messes with the suspension tuning that was designed for the stock tires. Some cars are worse than others but a spec miata IRL has the suspension to handle the sticky tires they run.

Honestly, I felt that way for a minute. But when I think about it. Outside of SNAIL, I only drove about 10 cars. There are maybe 3 car packs in iRacing I'll use, the tracks though, collecting all the road courses is gonna be pricey. Financially it will be a bit more, but after two races, I am blown away at how much better it feels, how much adjustability there is, and how much smoother it all runs.
$1000? If you have a computer already then you won't need to spend that much. $50 for some more ram and maybe $200 for a new graphics card. Granted that is 250 more than you need to not play. But that is assuming you even need those things.
Ultimately, I'm not trying to undermine GT6 here. I just wanted KTR to know he's not at PDs mercy. There are options, and that makes PD at his mercy.

What other sim racing game is better on the PS3? None that I know of, but I don't claim to know everything. My point is, without spending a lot more money, GT6 on the PS3 is the best I can hope for at this point. I'd love to be able to afford to go to iRacing. I have other family members who race for real and do a lot on iRacing, but at this point I can't justify the additional cost to my wife and family.

I do agree that the communication should be much, much better, as in, anything is better than what we're currently getting.

EDIT:
@Rallywagon I realize I'm not literally at PD's mercy. But at this point, I only have the PS3 as an option.

Took forever but I was at the movies the other night and saw the new trailer for NFS and finally found the perfect signature in my opinion of course
