Here's what you need to know (and do) in order to join:

We run a clean league by enforcing a strict penalty system based on the S.N.A.I.L. OLR (which is a modified version of the GTP OLR). We also expect all of our drivers to know and follow The Good Racecraft Guide.
Please become versed in both if you aren't already. Once that is complete, please follow the steps below to complete your entry into the league:

1. You take the S.N.A.I.L. OLR and Racecraft Test

2. You run the Time Trial and submit your information by 23:59 EST on Saturday night if you want to race this Sunday.

3. @JLBowler PM's you with your assigned Division that we feel will give you the closest competition. You will be added to the drivers list.

4. Send a PSN friend request to the Race Director or Primary Host from your assigned SNAIL Division. Sunday night you will need to sort the online lobbies by friends and join the lobby named 'snailracing.org Division_(x) based off your Division placement from JLBowler. That lobby will be where you race Sunday.

5. Place the following links (URLs) in the favorites (or bookmarks) in your web browser for quick reference. Please make every effort to read and understand the following links. Over the years a great deal of time and effort has gone into creating this league and we would like nothing more than to have you but we ask that you take the time and effort to do your homework. 99.9% of any question you may have about SNAIL can be found in the posts below. Now if you've actually read this, post a :dunce: in this thread.

6. You drive fast and clean on Sunday 👍

I'll get my TT lap submitted by Saturday:tup:. Like I said, I probably won't be able to do much Sunday night races(unless I'm on break from school). The Saturday night races look fun though.

Great racing with you tonight. Thanks for the pointers! I'm always looking to see where I can gain time. I need to rely on the brakes more. I have a tendency to trail brake in a couple turns rather than brake/gas hard. I see where I can make up some time through more practice.

So I got this idea for SNAIL.

Noticing the work load being put on the stewards by incidents.

So these folks get probation. What does this mean? What true "punishment" is involved here?

So this led me to think of a way to add a true punishment to those on probation.

Now what I'm gonna describe is vague and would need implemented and discussed by the powers to be.

So let's say myself gets four incidents filed on me. This puts me on a probation. Let's call this Level 1. This allows me to race in my normal division however I'm tip toeing level 2.

So next week I'm a dork and get more incidents. Now I've gotten myself into level 2 probation. This level will now have real punishment.

This punishment would include me taken out of my division as obviously I'm hampering others race. I'm put into a Probation Division. This would allow me to still compete. However it would be others in Level 2. Maybe only one, maybe two. Maybe 6 racers. None the less I still get to race. No awards. No points. Just the entertainment and Im not completely kicked and removed from SNAIL. However this would be a type of punishment that would make a racer want to clean up his act.

So basically you can punish folks for idiotic driving while not kicking them out.

All the while ensuring the driver getting incidents has a reason to knock it off.

For all that's sane and the integrity of SNAIL. The respect of those divers and stewards. Please consider this idea.

Also please pay winners shells that pick combos that survive weekly. This promotes winners to pick good lasting combos.

Having one completely new combo each weekend gives us good variety as well. The only combos that we will see for 3 weeks or longer are the ones we really like because they won't get voted out. Simple system and I think it works well!

Yes it does.

However incentive for winners to pick a combo that is liked by the group helps promote good racing and enjoyable racing.

I've seen combos that are complete utter torture. While those will will happen something like this would reduce them.

Just more reward to those drivers. Giving back.
 
One person can't make everyone happy when we have as many racers as we do. If you don't like their pick, go win a weekend and make a pick, and I'm sure you'll find someone won't like your choice. Just need to race what we're given here, and make the best of it. Good race car drivers can adapt to different scenarios.

I'm on a one week probation right now. I raced in the Race Car Series last night and was watching what I was doing there even though I don't think the penalty carries from one series to another, IT did make me think a bit more on my entry lines and where people were.

The people who want to take the probation serious will, those who don't, won't and will be weeded out. I like the system the way it's set up right now. Whatever you come up with it is still going to take the people (stewards) to implement, monitor and maintain the process. Focus on how you implement the process and the management efficiency and you might have a better idea of how to create something. Not saying your ideas are bad, they are actually some of the better concepts I've read in here.

First, how do you know the current system doesn't work?
Second, Is what you're changing improve the overall environment from reporting an infraction to assessing the penalty?

I for one choose to take it a little more serious so I don't get the boot by my fellow racers/friends (sand-baggers that they are). I guess I just haven't really met anyone in here that intentionally racks up the IR's.

Just my thoughts, not that they mean anything. But I'm a systems and process type of guy. Lol:gtpflag:
 
Honestly, the people who drive like a-holes consistently don't care about penalties...they don't last anyways.

The honest and courteous drivers don't care about penalties because they know it was a freak thing and doesn't happen very often.

It's really the in between guys that want to learn and improve that it will help. They just don't know what race craft is but are willing to learn.

I agree with you. But also I like the idea from Owens.

I don't think anyone intentionally races to get IR's filed against them; some racers are willing to push the boundary of what's legal to the limit and added some mistakes here and there.

I know of some that took multiple IR filings for them to understand that my rear bumper or my inside quarter panel is not their brakes. Some learn and improve some may not.

This might sound a bit harsh but, if you're looking for instant gratification, in regards to your SNAIL Division placement, you might want to head down to the store and pick you up a pair of serenity socks. You'll know before racing on Sunday for certain, anything before that is sauce for the goose.
