@JLBowler ...go faster

D3 here. Ran 8 laps at Monza and my best was 1:59.9. Might as well call it 2:00. Based on some of the times being thrown around I'm either in the wrong division or I'm the only one that stays on the track in practice and practices online.

One thing to consider is the lap times when you are running by yourself than when you are chasing and under draft. Alone is going to be a little bit slower than when you are under draft; perhaps why the difference.

@MajorBlixem what is your best lap when running in 1st place?
I also struggle to break under 2 min mark when by myself and no draft.

The whole point is to get them set in stone, so practice can simulate Sunday racing. It's why we run the deadlines the way we do.
not to be rude but that's just stupid! your talking about getting the best racing you can as close to 12 minutes as possible with out going over you have practice to see where people are running within the pack (or at least that's why I can't wait for Thursday night practice). But with out a race practice you want to set the lap count in stone with no flexability a lap here or there how do these 2 things not conflict each other?

Some people might be accidentally looking at lap times while in the draft?

Also, I did notice something really weird from the test session though... had one guy nearly pass me immediately at the start (terrible launch? possible but doubtful). And then he got a run on me at the beginning of a straight and from then on I couldn't even keep pace even under draft. I'm not the fastest driver out there (not even close) but I've never had someone pull away on such long straights when I'm close in the draft and essentially matching speed at the beginning of the straight. I definitely felt like something was very off with that, maybe a bug of some sort?

The 1:58's were unassisted. I chased @USERID_77a23 last night and got a 1:59.7 in the draft....LOL because he was holding me up on the track (joke!)

Something that may be being overlooked as well. Practicing, even online, not on a Sunday, with every body and their brothers, burning up the internet, 80+ SNAILs hammering away at GT6, and several other GT6 series and leagues that may run at or near the same time, will yield better reaction and times than when Sunday does roll around and all the monkeys are tugging on the lag ropes. This applies as well to this supposed change in physics from online to offline. The physics algorithms are the same in both cases. What's not the same is, the PS3 and GT6 are not having to use the network latency algorithms on top of everything it's already doing, when you're in offline mode. Those differences people notice when racing online are nothing more than propagation calculations, being done on the fly in real time, while 8 -16 drivers are hauling ass around whichever track they are on. The worse the latency is, the bigger the difference is in how much those propagation calculations have to work. Packet loss is different and adds even more load to those calculations, since the algorithm doesn't have the numbers that were in the packet that got lost to work with and has to make something up out of whole cloth. When cars are jumping around the track or floating around in mid air, that's packet loss or latency the network code can't accurately compensate for.

Just ran a 5 lap race online by myself. Starting from the pole position with no off track excursions, no shortcuts, no draft and no traffic. Total time for the race was 10:11.643. Some are going to be faster but most are going to be slower than that time for the whole race when you take into consideration traffic and other factors. The first lap for me was 2:08 so even with the other four laps at 1:58 flat, you're still right at 10 minutes.

If the goal is to have the race finished, meaning everyone still racing is finished, somewhere between 10 and 12 minutes then 5 laps is the way to go.

I get that we don't want the winning time under 10 minutes but I don't think we want, or have room for, the guy in 6th to finish in 12:30 either. I would rather see the really fast guys be a second or two under 10 minutes and finish at least close to the 2 hour time frame that we strive to fit into.

those are some pretty words:dunce:

Oh. So you think, everybody is going to be doing their best racing on Sunday? That assumption is, well, you can figure that out for yourself.

@JLBowler

My best lap at monza in the R390 with no draft was 1:57.0 staying in bounds (just), shifting at 6500rpm or before. I saw a 1:56.1 last night with draft but I didn't see if it was in bounds.

You're also not a mid division driver which is where the average lap times are supposed to come from.

To everyone else, notice I said average lap times. I didn't say the absolute fastest you have managed to go and may never repeat it lap time.

Those who set the number of laps can do what they want with their formulas and data that they get from where ever they can. I let them know what I could do and they can take it into consideration or not.

The only question I have left is, when was the last time any division finished their night of racing at or before 11:30 ET? I know D3 finished at two minutes after that this week and that is the closest I have seen in months.

I noticed the same thing last night. Another racer just pulling away from me on the straight. I assumed he got a better kick out of the turn.

Hey guys ... just saying i expect some good pics for the combos tonight ... im most likely not going to be able to hop on the ps3 and take them for the banners ... since its practice today we can have some group action on the pics aswell...
Just make sure the car takes up the right part of the picture (use the circle in the middle for reference when taking pictures in 16:9)
Also make sure its not zoomed in too much for best results.

I do not mind having one maybe even two of the combos at the 12 minute mark but I am not a fan of trying to have all three of them be 12 minutes apiece.

That makes for a very long night even if there are no tech issues.

For this week I would suggest that the first car drop a lap and that would probably get us down to 10 1/2 minutes.

I should have added in my comment that I was replying to this post rather than about average times, but it wasn't on the current page for me to hit reply.

I was doing 1:59s the first night in the car as well I was just pointing out that there might be a lot more time in the car somewhere unexpected, that you don't need to cut to get times in the 1:57 range (hint: shift points ;)

no i'm not saying everyone will do there best on Sunday you have guys who don't practice and show up on race day not knowing the tracks or cars at all but come for the experience i'm saying that by your algorithm based on a 2 minute lap the race length should be 6 laps "The problem with the approximate 2:00 minute lap time is that it is on that pivot of 5 laps = 10 min and 6 laps = 12 min. Therefore, the important number is not the average fastest lap times for the mid-Div drivers, but the average clean lap times they will sustain over the duration of the race. The first lap will be 6-10 seconds longer than the rest, which means you have to average 5 laps at less than 1:58 to finish a 6 lap race under 12 minutes. If I put the Average at 2:00, then the race is 6 laps and 12 min. If I put the average at 2:01 the race is 5 laps and just over 10 minutes (like we had with the WSR). The rule is to rather go over 12 min than to go under 10 minutes for the mid div durations. For now I will put it at 2:00 and we can see what happens on Thursday night practice." basicly i like monza and want more laps on the track with this car! i'm not trying to be aggravating I'm trying to get the best racing i can get within the rules set forth by snail! lol

lol yeah there's an idea take a lap away from the Peugeot and give it to monza!:rolleyes::lol:

Some people still don't seem to get it. 120 minutes of racing - (6*12minute races) - (3*10 minute qualifying) = 18 minutes to play with between races. Divide that by those 6 races and you get 3 minutes between each to get scoring done, save replays, goof off and/or wait for someone to fix their connection issues. Their just isn't time to allow someone more than 1 or 2 tries to leave, reset all their gear and come back.

The 12 minute races and 10 minute qualifying sessions are maximum numbers. Any time over that eats into those 3 minutes. Any time under that is bonus goof off time.

You basing your numbers on the wrong number. The target is not 12 minutes.

I meant to tell you "nice job" last night , I really was holding you up and you did well to avoid my slow a$$.

Some people might be accidentally looking at lap times while in the draft?

Yep, oil was freshly changed. It did feel like my power was down or something but I changed it right before I joined the room.

...And I too have definetly seen and experienced the "slow car" effect with this combo

I'll get some pics up tonight from practice :D

You basing your numbers on the wrong number. The target is not 12 minutes.

The target should be 10:30 for the winning time. That leaves 90 seconds of countdown time to be finished at 12 minutes. When you run a 12 minute race and you have 90 seconds of finish time, you're at 13:30 all of a sudden and using up half of those 3 minutes in between races.

Remember, the race isn't over until everyone has finished or the countdown is over.
