The biggest help I've found with the mid engine cars in the game is that you need to brake while you're in a straight line. It also helps to keep a little pressure on the accelerator just to keep the back end stable under braking.

I use abs 1 because of lockups withit it. For brake balance try reducing the rear balance till you stop spinning :)

I usually use 7/6 or 7/5. Not sure what others use.

7/4 for a car that likes to spin, 4/7 for one that likes to not turn at all is what I go with. The latter is usually followed up with commentary by myself to the effect of "turn in there, you stupid car!"

I am walking away before I break something. The almost funny thing is, most people think I am even tempered. Frustration does get my goat, I suppose. Thanks for the suggestions, I will try them with a cooler head.

are you actually spinning under braking? If you crank abs all the way up, you can do anything you want with the wheel while braking. It won't work as well, but it will give you stability while decelerating.

Or, are you over rotating through braking and steering simultaneously, and then getting on the gas too hard
and it sends it the other way?

it's also a MR so you need to find the grip through throttle on the way out. If you coast while off throttle, the natural weight will push the back end out

Shuffle races tonight?

I'm going to host an open FR-S and 86GT at Motegi room in a bit if anyone is interested. I'm really itching to drive all the variations of Motegi and this is the first chance I've had.

I used to use 4/1, and 1/4 for endurance races and would have it higher for short races. I even used 1/10 with FF cars, didn't seem to make a difference though.
Ever since I started using the wheel I just use 6/5 for every car even with abs off, really works well with 8 FFB.

If I could understand what I am doing wrong, I would tell you.

I am trying to do straight line braking, but the oversteer ? To the direction I am trying to turn to. Alternately, if I do not spin out, I seem to go with the Granny-Crabwalker that galumphs slowly around-ish corners.

I was adding some numbers to the results spreadsheet and thought I'd follow tcrash's lead and take some pictures. As soon as I get the D2 replays more to follow.

Request to join league

Great league guys!

Hey captainswan,

Glad you like what you see and glad to have you here!

We run a clean league by enforcing the S.N.A.I.L. OLR and we expect all of our drivers to know and follow The Good Racecraft Guide. Please become versed in both.

I'll add you to the drivers list, to determine which Division would be best for you to start in, please run the Time Trial Combination in this post and pm your time to me prior to 6:00 PM Saturday June 30th.

If you can't race on a Sunday, please be sure to give us at least 24 hours notice by posting in this forum, it makes things much simpler for us, thanks.

PSN friend requests will be sent to you from SNAIL_Division1, SNAIL_Division2 and SNAIL_Division3. Their lounges are where we race Sunday night and hold our various events. Here's a breakdown of the ways we use the lounges.

During the week we run a number of different events feel free to jump in and partake!

The original post also has a lot of information regarding the league, commit it to memory ;)

Welcome aboard and enjoy :)

Since people are talking brake balance, I thought I'd throw mine in there…

I run 2/1 on just about everything. The only times I change are if a car gets really squirrelly under braking or I am having major trouble with uneven front/back tire wear.

I have considered giving 3/2 a try, especially on the more stable rides, but I haven't done any experimentation with that, yet.

Sorry cheeb. I promise I'll get d2 up today. Its been a long hectic week at work and I ended up working way later then I expected.

Why so low?Are you racing without abs?

Disclaimer: I have not done any extensive testing to prove any of this. Take from it what you will.

There are various theories as to how brake balance works. Since PD typically does a terrible job of explaining what is happening in the settings menu, the public is forced to speculate. (This is also true with how online servers work, when/what DLC is coming, what the studio is actually working on, etc, etc.)

Some feel that the 5/5 that the cars start with are what PD believes are equivalent to the factory settings for the car (which would almost never be an equal 1:1 as that 5/5 would make it seem.) Adjusting beyond that, therefore, would be taking the car away from factory settings. I think that this is very wrong.

Others feel that 10/10 would apply much more braking than 1/1. Therefore, 10/10 could stop much faster (provided their tires did not lock up and the car had the grip for it). I don't see that. I run low number and seem to be able to stop in about the same distance as another car.

Some believe that a balance of 2/1 and 10/5 would function equally, as the front brakes would have twice the braking power as the rear. Basically, anything chosen is just a ratio of front to rear balance. This has some merit.

Others think that the numbers represent how easy it is to get full braking on an axle. In this sense, 5/5 would mean that all brakes are producing full braking power sooner on the brake pedal than would 1/1. 10/10 would require the least brake pedal pressure to get full braking power. Uneven numbers, therefore, give you more pressure sooner on the axle with the higher number. (Imagine 2/1. Push the pedal to where the front brakes are at full power. At this point the rears are only at half. Any further braking will only increase rear brake power.)

My vision of it is somehow mixed between the last two theories.

It is important to notice, too, that, under this theory, a car with 1/1 balance and one with 10/10, traveling at the same speed and with full brake pedal applied at the same time would stop in the same distance. No matter the settings for your brakes, when you apply full pressure you get full braking.

The good, then, that comes from having those lower numbers is that it allows for gentler braking and more precise control when you want less than full braking pressure. This makes trail braking or slowing down just slightly for traffic a bit easier, as the car won't be immediately leaping to heavy braking pressure.

That's my view. Right or wrong it works for me.

Nice explanation AP, when I have some time I'm going to try to test the theories out.

Thanks!

If I can find a camera I think I will release some test(s) I did a while ago (450pp club).I need to find the replays and take some photos of the data logger.
The benefits of the right BB are highly noticeable.

I've done some brake testing in the past and find a huge difference between 10/10 and 1/1 with 1/1 having much less braking power. Do a simple test. Take a high powered car, the SPEC F430 perhaps and put sport hard tires on it. Set it up with 0 abs to get a better idea of what the brakes are doing. Then go out and do some full brake tests from 150mph to 0. Try 10/10 first and then 1/1. You will find that all tires will go completely red immediately upon applying the brakes but not with 1/1 balance.

Have a look at this post for more info on driving without abs if you are interested in that. It's not that hard if you set the balance for the car.

Just tried this out and the braking distance is about 2+ car lengths longer with a 1/1 balance vs 10/10.

Just a reminder. There will be NO MAGIC LAP RACING tonight.

My PS3 is currently being repaired halfway across the country in Minneapolis, but it should be back in time for next week.

Next week will be an AUDI theme, so make sure you buy what you need from the OCD before they refresh!

Dylansan, You say you've sent your PS3 of for repairs to Minn.? Juast curious but are you going through GopherMods? I myself recently shipped mine outstate & went through GopherMods. They did the job, but most impressivley my order was shipped back to me within 24hr.

Indeed I did. I wish the 24 hours was not just for the repairs but the entire shipping process as well. It would have been nice to have it back on Tuesday or Wednesday... (I sent it out on Monday)
