Thanks all for clarifying. I felt a little dumb last night because I really didn't know the exact procedure for enforcing this particular rule. I'm generally up to speed on the rules, but I haven't had to deal with this one yet so I was caught a little off guard.
As @Grandpa Money pointed out, unless someone is streaming there is no replay to save for stewards to review, so that part is still a little confusing to me.

Regarding the qualifying, my guess is that it is the same as any other repayable offense. If you save the replay or capture it via ps4, you have something to show when filing, and if you chose not to save the replay, stream, or at least ps4 video capture the qualifying, it runs at your own risk of not being able to prove an offense if one occurs. I usually double tap the ps4 share feature to video capture the qualifying at the start just for that reason...oob, contact, off and illegal re-entry, and so on. Never had to use any so far, but I have them. My advice to all is video capture each of your qualifying sessions from your perspective for no other reason than to have it in case of an issue. Without it, you have nothing to use to back up a filing.

Yes, I have - as @Nick Cannella - struggled as to how this rule should be enforced when it has happened on race nights. I know everyone is a gentleman driver, but when there isn’t a replay, it becomes a touchy situation.

I also understand people in the camp that says - if I go off on the out lap and come back on without interrupting the qualifying flow or other drivers, why can’t I qualify?

I don’t envy the BOD and stewards when it comes to this issue.

Unless someone is right in front or directly behind (and maybe not even then), unless they blatantly go off - blue triangle in no mans land - you can’t see it on the PS video capture.

And as for them getting passed in qualifying - maybe they moved over to let a faster driver pass, or possibly spun but stayed on track. They would still be able to finish their qualifying - under the rules - and are better off than anyone who might fully go off.

As I said in my prior post, not an easy path here.

Not everything can be seen from a specific driver's vantage point, sure, but if a video capture or stream during qualifying was caught, and that driver noticed an infraction, his view would clearly show that to the record giving him some level of proof for an IR filing. That is why it is important that every driver on the grid get in the habit of starting a PS4 video capture at the start of qualifying for each combo. Without it, there is nothing to stand on. For anyone not familiar with how to video capture, Simply double tap the "Share" button to start the capture recording, then double tap it again to stop recording.

One time myself personally I had to pull off to the side of a track and send a text to just to clarify something....it was a driver who got in the wrong room...I then went about and finished my qualifying I dont remember where I qualified at

I can’t find it now but I could have sworn I remembered seeing that only replays are reviewable.

However, if someone files during qualifying there is no way of going back to see and I honestly can’t see someone filing for a qually unless it’s a really bad deal.
 
This is just my opinion but I have always felt this, if you get passed or go off during the out lap you should still be able to do a hot lap. One of my supporting arguments is tracks like miyabi. If we do 2 group qualifying group 2 sits there longer and gets colder tires. Less grip and could go off if they mess up on the out lap. Yes it should be the drivers responsibility to be aware the tires are cold but miscalculations happen. Also if you get passed on the outlap, I believe you should just switch places with that person. Obviously they were fast enough to catch you and there should be a significant gap between the car behind the one that caught you. I have no issue with the rule as is now. But with all the black n white rules snail has I feel as if qualifying has the most grey area. But I do love this discussion.
 
It's unfortunate that it feels like we're still in the stone ages in Sport after 1.5 years of its release. We had proper qualifying in GT5/GT6, yet it's still not available for public lobbies outside of the FIA events.

However, even if we had proper qualifying (race alone option or FIA timed format) there would still be the possibility of running 4 off and continuing on by the offending driver if he doesn't police himself. As the rules stand right now, if you go off during qualifying whether it be on your outlap or flying lap, you are to pull over and remained park until qualifying ends. While I don't necessarily agree with having to sit out your qualifier if you go off during your outlap, the way the rules are stated is what we have to go by. That's not to say it cant be looked at and changed in the future. But for now that's just the way it is. So take it easy and don't push too hard and risk going off. But go fast enough to make sure to keep a healthy gap between you and the guy behind.

There can be a bit of a grey area with this as there's a difference between a slight off and a major off. If I'm on an outlap or qually lap and I just barely have 4 tires off the track/rumble strips/track boundary, I'm most likely going to continue on (and lift off the throttle to negate any time gained). You could argue that I shouldn't because "an off is off".

Imagine coming up to the 1st turn/chicane at Monza on your qualifying lap and you accidently cut the inside part of the chicane. Are you really going to pull over and stop after the very first turn and 10 seconds into your qually lap? Or the fast S section at Maggiore where the white line indicates the track boundary. If you barely go 4 off there are you really going to stop and pull over? Let's be real, I seriously doubt anyone would here. Even Mother Theresa herself would probably carry on. But you need to remember to scrub off any time you may have gained.

There's a big difference between that, and going multiple car lengths wide through a turn, or spinning out and ending up out of bounds on either your outlap or qualifying lap and then continuing on. Without going into specifics, this has happened in the past and video proof/live stream was used as evidence. In this case you need to park it, your qually is over. But at least you'll still be able to race while starting from the back. If you don't park it, you risk getting filed on and will be marked as a DQ for said race.

This is another good reason to livestream. It can serve as video evidence for the stewards to review, but it's also beneficial for those that cant race but want to watch the action unfold. I didn't race last night but I was able to follow some of the action in D1, D2, and D5 thanks to the streamers. It's also good advertising for us. After all it's how I found SNAIL via Gunny's twitch stream. I'll link to a guide later today to show you how to set it up. Once its setup it literally takes 5 seconds to go live and broadcast to the world. You will also earn $hells for doing so, which can be spent on things like the Buttkicker that was recently announced.

Enforcing the qualifying rules is where my uncertainty lies. With replays not capturing the qualifying portion, the (Neutty) question becomes: Is any other video capture source admissible? Would (or could) that lead to reviews taking exponentially longer to process for the stewards?
Slightly separate topic: I too don’t understand why a screw up on the out lap has to terminate one’s qualifying. (I accept, comply and support the current rules however). One could let all pass and resume behind the last driver. This would greatly reduce the propensity to fudge about an outlap mistake while taking only seconds longer on the evening (compared to the multiple minutes on all too frequent connection issues).
 
Where did the idea come from that the stewards don't or can't use streams or other in game video evidence to review qualifying incidents? This is a serious question as it's not stated anywhere that I can find nor does it state anywhere that the stewards will only use in game replays to rule on incidents.

I know the stewards have mentioned to a couple of individuals that there is no need to include a link to their stream in an IR for a race when we have full access to replays but I also know that the stewards have used streams to review potential qualifying violations.

I think this is where I saw it, and miss interpreted what was being said.

I am very interested in learning how to stream @SAMHAIN85

This video was uploaded almost 2 years ago but it should still be relevant today. Just make sure to create a YouTube or twitch account ahead of time on your phone/computer and then you'll be able to login on your PS4.



I suggest unchecking the 'display messages to spectators' box since it will display a side bar on screen while you're ingame which can be distracting and also limit your screen size.

While you're streaming and someone joins your stream, a little box in the top right corner will be displayed briefly to indicate you have viewers. Same with someone typing a message in the live chat in your broadcast. I usually have my phone nearby so if I see someone post a message I'll check it out from my phone.

This is what I do to get my stream posted here:

  1. Start stream on PS4
  2. Find my stream via my phone/computer
  3. Copy the link
  4. Post the link here
It's that easy. Itll also give you an option to title your stream. Mine has always been "GT Sport www.snailracing.org" no matter what I'm doing. I might go back and rename my streams with the appropriate dates incase I ever want to find a specific Sunday SNAIL night or FIA event easier.

Don't forget to post your stream here or else you wont be able to claim $hells for it. If you have any questions just ask. There's a lot of us that stream and we'll give you a hand.

Yea. Once you get a shifter you can’t go back. I tried without once I got the Fanatec but it’s just not the same. This thing is MASSIVE! It was a struggle to pull the trigger but I got reimbursed and refunded an airline ticket with my company so I had a little extra funds to spend. (Ps wifey thinks Fanatec sent me this due to my issues with the first Fanatec wheel) shhhhh
