D1 replays are up on sugarsync. Had to download a stupid manager, but now it seems to be working fine. How hard is it to keep it simple sugarsync ?

You only have to use the manager if the file is >100MB.

To all those that are complaining about NASCAR and not being able to do it. How much time have you spent practicing it? How much time have you spent with the other disciplines in this game? I'm going to guess there is a big difference between those two answers. I'm not going to go into a long description of what it takes to be good with these cars in that style of racing because it will just be dismissed when someone says, "It's all about getting lucky." If that was the case, the same guy wouldn't win every oval race he's finished (connection demons) on Sundays.

You won't catch me saying that the winner was lucky. I've been on the side of NASCAR from the start. I love oval racing and I think ithas its place in SNAIL, even on sundays. but not with the NASCAR cars. The games physics and packet prediction system (whatever PD wants to call it anyway) is what ruins it to me. I'm pretty sure everyone that currently hates on it is in the same boat. It has absolutely nothing to do with oval racing itself, but everything to do with flaws in the actual game itself. when you're driving as fast and as close as we do, the games prediction system gets very very rough, cars begin to hop all over the place. I know that I can hold my line, and I'm positive the guy in front of me on his screen is holding the same line, however, he is constantly jumping up and down the lane on my screen, and I bet i'm all over the place on his screen. This isn't the case when your in lower PP cars, mostly because everything is slower, so the game can better keep up. This is especially true when you have a near full grid like we did last night. The more cars, the more it has to predict, the less CPU power that can be used predicting just a few cars, and so, the more cars are jumping up and down the lanes. And its not just the jumps that are an issue, there were times when someone would be bump drafting, hit the guy in front with maybe a 2-3 mph difference, the guy in front would shoot off from 205 to 230 instantly and the guy behind would drop to 190.
Like I said, I dont think anyone is bashing oval racing. Just the games prediction system.

I agree 100% Rally and would also add the outside is a joke as far as the game is concerned. I guarantee that a 2-3 car pack can run outside line and stay with the inside group side-by-side all the way around the track. AND say 2 cars running together; they can go by an inside group on the back str8 if the 2-car gets a run off of turn 3 on the lead group. Picture the 3-car coming out of T3 inside and the 2-car coming out of same turn from hi-to-low about two car lengths behind. The 2-car will have a tremendous run on the 3-car at about 1/3 into back str8 and would blow by them at 1/2 - 2/3 mark of the str8. But, for some reason, the game thinks otherwise.

Rally you are definately right about the issues with the game. I went back and watched the replays that the game let me save and I thought I may have wronged someone. On nurb I almost touched tez and for some reason our cars shot away from eachother like two positively charged electromagnets. But then you guys told me to turn off my mic to decrease lag which ,surprising to me, worked miracles in the last 2 races for me as far as latency issues go. Thanks for the protip guys

Also at Daytona there is no reason to hug the inside or outside lane if there is only three people in your group and no one is on side of you, as there is no way to have two lines of drafting cars. The fastest driving line is still out in out reguardless of the course being an oval

I can tell you of two tracks were this is wrong. Daytona, where just a little high of the inside line is the fastest way around, and High speed ring, where staying high around two of the corners is much faster. There are probably more, but you would have to consult someone from d1 to figure that out. Further more, if your running with a group, the likely hood of wrecking goes way up once you start moving your lines up and down. for the sake of consistence and predictability, its best to hold the same line until maybe the last lap.
Martin, I've since moved on man, I dont stick around racing by myself for long. Hot laps bore the snot out of me.
 
When GT5 was first released all I did was run NASCAR at Daytona. No road racing, just turning left. Full rooms with the same guys all of us pretty solid and besides the occasional bump here and there we could run 100-150 lap races with no issues including no lag.

I love watching NASCAR and I love driving stock cars at Daytona, BUT it's hard to race with lag and when half the field has DS3 and the other half has a wheel. I'm not saying every driver with a wheel is going to be able to always hold the perfect line through the corners, but I'm willing to bet there is less "waving" back and forth up and down the track with a wheel than with a DS3.

Moves can be made on the outside but it requires at least 2 cars up there. It also requires the car on the inside to hold a real tight line and not move up the track any...especially at 230+ mph.
 
Im maybe on my last miles in this league. I dont want to talk about who and who but agressive driving its like (sex) and much they want to have. I cant believe in me anymore in this atmosphere. Say what you want about my comments, they came from the inside of my passion.

Already did the vote its 3, with a deseperate mind of quit and some1 look like casper tell me to stay. Since 2 weeks im a victim in the league and im tired of that.

Im angry sorry dabneyd I put nothing more bad on the tread. Im just very sad to had practice all the weeks and break my cars for whine on the tread like a tweetie bird. Maybe im not the only to had bad performance. I close that discussion. Im just powerless to change something.

As I said in this post, I will be penalizing drivers who complain on the thread (especially if they don't file any official complaints to back it up). If something happened you, then you need to report it! Complaining on the thread serves no purpose. Therefore, you've been docked five GranStand points. One point for each of your first three comments and two for your last comment in which you implied that you could do anything about it. That's absolutely ridiculous which is why I doubled the points for that particular comment.

All that being said, I'll cut you a break if you file an official complaint by the deadline tonight. If you do, I'll give you back all five of the GranStand points you just lost.

Not a verry good first race series for me, some of the drivers in D1 are alot more aggresive than D2, not necessarily dirty but just seemed racing edicate came second to winning. I would also like to apologize to Bowler for taking you out in the miata, i was feeling the heat from other drivers and thought i should brake a little later in the chicane but ended up overshooting the corner and taking you out.

Same thing for you, RickBobby. You've been docked one GranStand point. Painting "some drivers" in D1 as putting winning in front good racecraft without anyone knowing who you're referring to is the same as painting everyone in the division with that label. That's simply not fair to the clean drivers in the division who have good racecraft spilling out of their pores. The best way to identify these problem drivers is to file a complaint against them. Just because it's not "dirty" doesn't mean it can't be filed. Lacking etiquette on the track is something that definitely needs to be called out with an official complaint. Otherwise that driver probably never think that he was one of the drivers you were referring to.

However, I'll offer you the same thing as I did to Drgreenthumb. If you file a complaint before tonight's deadline, I'll give your GranStand point back.
 
Using the low line at Daytona all the way around is not the fastest, but it is the only way to protect the inside lane through the turns.

If the lead car in a 3 or more car pack stays low and everybody behind him goes high they will choo choo right on by. This is actually true of any line you choose at Daytona, regardless of whether it's out/in/out or not.

In the GTP Nationwide and Sprint series I ran in last fall with OwensRacing that's how everyone ran while in a pack. With no draft the customary line of out/in/out will be faster and I have no evidence that a pack running the out/in/out line would not be faster than an equal pack running the low line all the way around, since I never once saw any pack use the out/in/out line on any high speed oval, of which I do not count Motegi.

The problem with using the high line, which is excacerbated by network latency and packet loss, is twitchiness up there near the marbles makes it much harder to maintain a high line and recover if the lagmonkey bites you.

Audio comms burns up a good chunk of bandwidth in any internet related endeavor. Turning it off will reduce our ability to communicate quickly but it will certainly improve the racing experience, especially in rooms at or near capacity.
 
The degree to which you go in may change, but that doesn't change the fact that the earlier you straighten your wheel the earlier you will be accelerating in the direction you want to go, which almost always means exiting the turn further to the outside of where you are mid-turn. High speed ring has been my only exception but that is because the bowl shape of the embankment makes for an odd ideal area in the turns

If you run the full out in out line at Daytona by yourself it's to much added distance and no added speed. If you run basically the yellow line while in the lead it's fast enough to not be easily passed and since it's the shortest distance it's the fastest.

I gained about 5 mph on the exit of every turn by hugging the line until the exit and cut a few tenths every lap running this way May only be applicable to controllers tho
Can you guys explain how staying inside is the best for defense, seriously tho. Not trying to sound douchey but I have found that using the entire course is the best for defense, especially for Daytona

I think, at least temporarily, we should think about turning off voice on Sundays. I don't know how much the Cyberbunker/Spamhouse DDoS thing has an effect on things, but I have noticed more laggy-ness in the past couple of weeks since the packet flood started. Here's some more info on that. Regardless of that we need to make sure that the designated host is the first one in the lobby, because I think we have better results when the host starts the lobby vs. them becoming the host after the lobby has been started.

I don't how bad it was during the racing, since as soon as I got in the room, during qualifying for the first race, there were several guys that seemed to almost be on open mics and I set them all to mute. I am fortunate enough to have a headset with a rotating mic boom, that when rotated up mutes it. Makes it fairly easy for me to flip up and down to communicate if necessary. Before and after races I have it down and if someone speaks to me during a race I'll pull it down when I can spare the hand for it and respond.

With audio enabled, everyone's upstream bandwidth, quality and quantity, becomes more critical to smooth network traffic.

I know while running Daytona in D4 last month we didn't seem to have lag issues and everyone seemed to keep the mics enabled, just so we could alert each other to track position. Kind of everyone spotting for everyone. But I don't think we had more than 10 or 11 drivers at that time.

I've been playing online games since Quake II on a 33.6K dial up connection and various and sundry games since, spanning 56K dial up to DSL to Cable, and it's been my experience that one, just one, really crappy connection in a peer to peer system, which is basically what the lounges run as, even if they choose to call it a "Mesh Network" will drag down all the connections. A server/client relational network, what GT5 calls a "Star Network" will generally perform better.
