@hurbinator

Here's your official SNAIL Welcome Post!

Thanks for your interest!
Here's what you need to know (and do) in order to join SNAIL Racing League:

We run a clean league by enforcing a strict penalty system based on the SNAIL OLR (which is a modified version of the GTP OLR). We also expect all of our drivers to know and follow The Good Racecraft Guide. Please become versed in both if you aren't already. Once that is complete, please follow the steps below to complete your entry into the league:

1. You start a conversation and add zer05ive, JLBowler, nmcp1,llNovall, Akzl298 & Dragonwhisky
as participants.

The conversation title should be "Request To Join".

2. SNAIL Administrators will respond with specific instructions on what you need to accomplish to join the SNAIL [Spec] Racing.

3. Place the following links (URLs) in the favorites (or bookmarks) in your web browser for quick reference. Please make every effort to read and understand the following links. Over the years a great deal of time and effort has gone into creating this league and we would like nothing more than to have you but we ask that you take the time and effort to do your homework. 99.9% of any question you may have about SNAIL can be found in the posts below.

Drivers List
SNAIL OLR Policies and Guidelines
4. You drive fast and clean on Sunday 👍

Again, the original post has everything you need to know about what to expect on Sunday night and what you will need to have completed in order to be competitive. If you have any questions, please feel free to post your question on the thread.

During the week we run a number of different events, we encourage all SNAILs to join as many as possible.
Welcome to SNAIL

Welcome to SNAIL

Hi guys, I'm not sure I'll be racing tonight as I'll be out of the house until later in the evening. I may catch the last races, but I am unsure. Enjoy your rounds!
I can't participate tonight I'm working, good run to all!

We had a smaller grid in D1 yesterday, 6 drivers but it didn't get in the way of close and clean racing in every combo.
2024-12-08 Race 1.jpg

Fun little car on with that weird Alsace variation that got added in GT7 for some reason. PD being PD.
2024-12-08 Race 2.jpg

Going three wide on the first lap of the reverse race with @bublyman and @Nicktune Everyone in their lane.

Usually @Nicktune claims the fastest lap by the end of the second race but this time it was a tie for fastest lap with myself and Nick at exactly 58.152 seconds. Talk about being evenly matched !

2024-12-08 Race 3.jpg

I picked HSR because it's been a while since we've been there and I didn't expect much of it but surprisingly it made for close battles across the grid.
2024-12-08 Race 4.jpg

It isn't a PD designed track without a bridge...
2024-12-08 Race 4 (2).jpg

...and a tunnel. ;)
I don't know why but I really like taking photos at HSR, the track looks good under every lighting, it's such a simple layout but the environment looks so good. It's definitely not the most exciting track but after more than 25 years I couldn't do without it in Gran Turismo. It's 100% my nostalgia talking but I love fantasy tracks, I wish we could get Midfield Raceway or Apricot Hill back. Fingers crossed. Fantasy Cars, the Vision GT stuff I don't see the point.

2024-12-08 Race 6 (2).jpg

Almost lost it at the chicane on the last lap thanks to those stupid sausage curbs making the cars jump and bounce. With @Nicktune breathing down my neck, I managed to stay in first and take the win a corner later. We traded positions a couple of times during that race, another awesome battle.

With that said, we only have two more races before the end of 2024, man time flies !

We started out with 10 in D2 last night and had 11 total participants through the night.

1000005263.jpg

This hill really makes the track interesting! I noticed two or three different strategies for making it down safely.
1000005261.jpg

@racingchamp30 and I had a really fun battle for much of the first race.
1000005264.jpg

The second combo had alot of drafting opportunities. Momentum was key with those long straights.
1000005267.jpg

This was the moment I overtook @Oshawa-Joe for first place. I got my first gold medal since I've switched over to a wheel from this race!
1000005265.jpg

That superman livery looks great on the GT-R @TexHill
1000005275.jpg

Dub ended up leading the way both races in combo three. This track wins the best scenery award for the night in my opinion.

1000005272.jpg

@DublDee and @CdnSweetTee sporting the his and hers liveries! Looking good y'all.
1000005273.jpg

I was hoping the chopper would distract Dub here but no dice, lol. Thanks for the fun races last night everyone!

  11. Yeshua-Benyosef --- did not submit a vote
The round that received the most elimination votes was:
Round 2 - Nissan GT-R NISMO '17 (SS) at High Speed Ring - S02 Evening (13 laps)
Therefore the entire combo has been dropped from next week's line-up. Since @racingchamp30 wins Prize A, they get to choose an entirely new car and track combo to replace it.

The round that received the second most elimination votes was:
Round 3 - Radical SR3 SL '13 (RH) at Dragontrail International Raceway Gardens Reverse - S01 Early Morning (9 laps)
This means either the car or the track will be replaced for next week's line-up. Since @Nicktune gets Prize B, they have the option to freeze the car or the track, or they can give that option to the Prize C winner. If they give the freeze away, then they get to decide what car or track replaces the part of the combo that is left unfrozen by the Prize C winner.

Prize C goes to @radliffracing so they get whichever option the Prize B winner does not select.

Preliminary prize winners, please don't announce your prize selection until all incident reports have been filed and it has been confirmed that you don't have any penalties. It's also recommended that you review the SNAIL combo history and other data on our car and track history so that you can get an idea how many times we've raced each car and track. Please remember that originality is always appreciated, so picking cars and tracks that we've never raced is a plus (but not required). What's more important is that you thoroughly test any combo that you are considering before making it your official selection. For example, any car you select must not hit its rev limiter at any point during a race (even in the draft).

IMPORTANT: When posting your Prize A or Prize B selection, please list the complete in-game name of the car and/or track you are selecting. For example, if you want to choose the Integra Type R as your car selection, post "Honda Integra Type R (DC2) '98". If you want to select Monza for your track, post "Autodromo Nazionale Monza". Being specific helps us to update the lineup accurately and also helps avoid any confusion among the drivers. Also, please be sure to list the HP and Weight (LBS) of any car you select. For track selections, include the Preset Weather and the Time of the Day (e.g: S01 Afternoon) or else it will be left to default. Available settings can be found under Time/Weather Settings, when creating an online Lobby, after selecting your track.

Car Selection Guidelines
See Section 3 of the SNAIL OLR, Policies and Guidelines.

Track Selection Guidelines
See Section 3.1 of the SNAIL OLR, Policies and Guidelines

Since I got prize A, either division suggest a new combo and I will test out each one. Whether you raced in D1 or D2, I like to include all in the selection process whenever I get A. Car, track, day of time you would like me to test and tires will be used. Got plenty of vehicles to play with from the my gt demo.
Or a “barn find” race lol

So I’ve always been a sports car, race car, exotic car enthusiast but Mustangs will always be a special vehicle to me. I guess they should be, I’ve owned over a dozen, Lol. Anyway, here’s a cool little story about a very special Stang!

1970: Ford Mustang “Lawman” arriving in the Vietnam. Only 2 of these "Lawman" Super BOSS 429 Mustangs were ever made by Ford for tour to U.S. troops in Vietnam, Japan, Guam, Hawaii, & Mainland military bases. It's the only Ford Made BOSS 429 Mustang that's automatic in the world,1200hp, runs a quarter mile in 8.4 seconds at 185mph. Top speed depends on how it's geared but it's well over 185mph.

2013: The "Lawman" shows up at Midwest Car Exchange for a little visit to shake the dust off the rafters and show all the other muscle cars who the real BOSS is.

What a cool piece of history!

Focus RS '18 on SH tires at Autodrome Lago Maggiore- East Reverse S01 Early morning.

I can only use a controller today, but this felt like a really good, fun combo. Not too difficult to learn, but probably a challenge to be fast.

I too am a fan of Fast Fords. Owned 3 fox body mustangs. Had a 93 coupe running 11.7s on the motor.

* I have finished reviewing the one incident for the week. *

I will wait till mid morning to test. Decide before noon tomorrow. All suggestions are welcome. Anyone who has not suggested, you have time to suggest. I will test one of my own as well.
Nissan Fairlady Z Version S (Z33) '07 SH Tires @ Fuji International Speedway Early Morning S02.
Mid div lap time: 2:00

This would be a good test of SH tires, car is very manageable, fun to drive and you can kick the tail out if you so desire.

Weirdly enough, we only went to Fuji short version in GT7, not the full version with the slow hairpin. Same thing with the Z, never been raced in GT7.

I've always been fond of those 350Z, especially in orange. When it came out in 2002, there was an orange one in my small remote town and I remember seeing that car for the first time so wide and low. Unfortunately, stock unmolested examples are pretty rare to come by in my part of Canada. Compared to my new edge Mustang of the same era, the 350Z must feel 20 years younger even though they technically are the same ish model year.

Ty for all suggestions from any who has suggested. Will need to write down each one and then will test each one. Shouldn't be long till i make a decision.

@Wetroadracer Civic R at Horse Thief mile was challenging to try and drive plus wouldn't be lot of room to pass.
@DublDee Mustang Boss 69 red lining during straight not getting above certain speed on Speed Atlanta.
@Oshawa-Joe Couldn't get control of Ford Focus at Maggiore east, not bad combo to suggest.
@Worst_Driver Fairlady at Fuji with plenty of speed, room to pass and fun to drive.

It is always appreciated whenever i get a suggestion when i win prize A so i can give other Snail members a chance to suggest something that might be new, different or have not done in a while. My Z has 519.64 PP. Can someone else check?
Figured it out. I never seen a wing reduce PP. Removed all aero parts. Front is ok. Rear aero killed PP.

Showroom PP comes up at 524.31 and it appears SNAIL will run this one on stock tires. I suspect one of the reasons yours appeared so low is the previous PP rating was 516.69, until one update or another, since we last updated the SNAIL car list PP values. I imagine the one I already have will do something similar until I actually get in that car.

Looks like the one I have came in as a gift car from somewhere and it was already rated at 524.31PP.

Don't add rear aero.

Let the practicing begin!

Chat very quiet the last 24 hours. I'm reviving it.

From one monument (Notre-Dame last week) to another, I'm staying in Paris this week for my Car-Show entry and visiting the Eiffel Tower.

On December 15th, 1832, Gustave Eiffel was born in Dijon, France. He was a civil engineer best known for designing and building the Eiffel Tower in time for the 1889 Universal Exposition in Paris. Mr. Eiffel also worked on the Statue of Liberty. In fact, it was first assembled in this factory in Paris before being dismantled and shipped to the United States.

Bonne fête Mr. Eiffel.
