The round that received the most elimination votes was:
Round 1 - Chevrolet SSR '03 (Sports: Hard) at Special Stage Route 5 / Forward (6 laps)
Therefore the entire combo has been dropped from next week's line-up. Since @FlipJ wins Prize A, he gets to choose an entirely new car and track combo to replace it.

The round that received the second most elimination votes was:
Round 3 - Nissan Z GT500 Base Model '06 (Racing: Hard) at Mid-Field Raceway / Forward (10 laps)
This means either the car or the track will be replaced for next week's line-up. Since @brian540 gets Prize B, he has the option to freeze the car or the track, or he can give that option to the Prize C winner. If he gives the freeze away, then he gets to decide what car or track replaces the part of the combo that is left unfrozen by the Prize C winner.

Prize C goes to @McTrucker so he gets whichever option the Prize B winner does not select.

Preliminary prize winners, please don't announce your prize selection until all incident reports have been filed and it has been confirmed that you don't have any penalties. It's also recommended that you review the SNAIL combo history and other data on our car and track history so that you can get an idea how many times we've raced each car and track. Please remember that originality is always appreciated,so picking cars and tracks that we've never raced is a plus (but not required). What's more importantis that you thoroughly test any combo that you are considering before making it your official selection. For example, no car you select should not hit its rev limiter at any point during a race (even in the draft).

IMPORTANT: When posting your Prize A or Prize B selection, please list the complete in-game name of the car and/or track you are selecting. For example, if you want to select the Amuse Superlegara for your car, post "Amuse Nismo 380 RS Superlagara". If you want to select Monza for a track, post "Autodromo Nazionale Monza". This makes it much easier for the lineup to be updated accurately and also prevents confusing other league members as to which car or track you are selecting. Also, please be sure to list the PP and HP (after oil change) of any car you select.

Car Selection Guidelines
Dealership Cars - The maximum price for a selected car is now $1,000,000
DLC Cars - Only DLC cars that are FREE and currently still available in the PlayStation Store can be selected.

Track Selection Guidelines
Any non-DLC track can be selected as long as a single lap with the car combo'd with it would not take more than five minutes to complete. For example, don't select anything that includes the Nurburgring's Nordschleife.

Woops, anyways DON'T do that, its not actually self cleaning, it just turns up the fan and runs the processor at 100% for a test. People have damaged their ps3's doing this. Just open it up or use a can of compressed air.
 
Nug is usually short for nugget. In reference to the name I would hazard a guess that this user is referring to his brain as a nugget perhaps? Or on the other hand they could be using Nug in reference to a nut, which would be another adaptation entirely. The possibilities are endless...what do you (anyone) think it means?

Aww shucks.. too late. Thanks for the warning, but I tried it out right after I made that post. Haven't tried to turn it back on yet, but fingers crossed. Regardless, the fans didn't hard enough to get the dust out of the vents, so it looks like I'll be going the compressed air route anyways. :ouch:

The goal isn't a one lap race. The rule for track selection is that you must be able to complete a lap in 5 minutes for the track to be chosen. @zer05ive created the rule based on 10 minute races. Now that we have a hard cap for race times, the 5 minutes could be changed to reflect slightly less than half of that allotted time but that would be up to him to change.

Actually, this policy is a carryover from our GT5 days we all qualified together on the same track and we all started from the pit. Back then, your qualifying lap didn't start until you exited the pit, went around the entire track, and then crossed the start/finish line. And since we tried to keep qualifying around 10 minutes (you couldn't preset a hard time limit like you can in GT6), we developed a rule that a lap could be no more than 5 minutes long. That way, you'd have enough time to exit the pit and go around the track once and still have time to record at least one flying lap. So you see, the rule was more of a result of GT5's qualifying limitations than anything else.

When GT6 launched, we were able to ditch the tedious qualifying process that we developed for GT5 thanks to GT6's ability to let us all qualify together at the same time. Another great qualifying option that GT6 added was the "Final Corner Start" as opposed to the "Pit Start", which was the only option in GT5. Therefore, I see no reason to require a lap to be under 5 minutes or less anymore since GT6 allows you to start a flying lap from the very beginning of qualifying. 👍

Now that I think about it, I'm surprised this outdated rule has't been pointed out before. Maybe it's because the Nordschleife probably isn't the ideal track for a sprint race (especially when it results in a one lap race). Another possibility is that the track just isn't isn't suited for side-by-side racing IMO. And possibly a third reason is that races on the Nordschleife tend to be a contest of track familiarity more than a contest of driver skill (again, just my opinion).

I have nothing against the Nordschleife and I agree that it's fun to drive. However, it's probably more suited for other types of series with longer races. That being said, none of the concerns I mentioned above are a valid reason to ban the track. If the improved qualifying features in GT6 makes it possible for us to utilize this track, then why not make it available? It may be a one-and-done, but you never know.. it could be a hit! Besides, the prize winners have earned the right to pick whatever floats their boat (within the rules), right?

If we did allow it, we'd probably have to increase the qualifying time for that round since most cars can't complete a lap on the Nordschleife in under 6 minutes. I guess qualifying time could could be increased to as high as 10 minutes (our GT5 time limit), which would mean the races would be about 10 minutes as well. All in all, that adds up to the same number of on-track minutes as a 6 minute qualifying session and two 12-minute races. Thoughts?

Honestly, I would love to be able to pick the Nordschleife as it definitely floats my boat (and I would do it right now - just took the car I'm probably picking there and it doesn't red line going down the main straight), but I see a couple of issues.

The number of cars that can reliably lap it under 6 minutes is pretty small. Generally, you're looking at a 6 1/2 to 7 1/2 minute lap in the majority of cases. So it's either a super short race or it goes over the 12 minute limit. And that's a lap in ideal conditions, which won't ever happen with 10+ identical cars in the Nordschleife. The WTCC race last weekend was a great example of how difficult it is to pass around it, and they aren't racing spec.

Sabine Schimtz held on for 10th place in the 1st race in a car that she barely drove against others that have been driving the category since the start of the year. But she probably has lapped that track more than all the other drivers combined, so she kept 2 faster cars at bay for the 3 laps of the race. So yes, knowing the track always helps, but when you have 80+ corners, that help is pretty relevant.

I have no qualms about one lap only for qualy, though, added pressure is pretty cool. But if you do a 10 min qualy, then do you do a 10 min race as well, knowing that in most of them the winner is crossing the line probably well under 9 minutes or do you go for 2 laps no matter what and risk having a race go to almost 20 if there's carnage/the car is a bit underpowered and you can only do 8+ min laps? Establish a minimum PP for the track?

Maybe the track opens a can of worms with everything that would have to be changed?

There is a hard cap for each race so if a car ran a 7 minute lap, it would be a one lap race. There would be no going over 12 minutes to get two laps in. As zer05ive mentioned, qualifying might have to be expanded to make it happen.

My personal take is that the nord sucks for racing with most cars. I could start up front, drive down the middle and nobody would be able to get around me for most of the race. If it were ever chosen, I would either vote it off immediately or not even show up to race it. That's only my personal take on it though.

You don't actually have to complete a lap. The game also uses sectors on track. Depending on the car you should be able to complete 2 sectors within 6 minutes with most cars. At least it worked that way in GT5. I can do some testing.

Personally, I do not enjoy Nord for anything other than time-trial style driving, or Cat & Mouse.

Steward nightmare for contact with the tightness of the track. Accidents will happen, I guess.

I appreciate people have different opinions but back in the GT5 days I was involved with a group with which I had many an epic race around the Nurburgring. It is tight in places but there are passing opportunities throughout the lap and from that perspective it's certainly no worse than Cote d'Azur, Kart Space or the GT Arena which have all been SNAIL picks before.

The other relatively lengthy track which has been overlooked is La Sarthe. I see it was once chosen back in 2012 but with the right car it is another which can provide a great racing experience.

@OwensRacing and I tried to do a series at the Nord. Owens actually had a pretty good turnout for a few times.

My concept for those interested was based on 'recycler method' . Use recently used SNAIL Cars and have a 2 lapper with fast tire ware on.

Example
  • - The Nissan Z - should be lovely there.
  • Ferrari 430 Scuderia
  • Even the Alpine with its great handling should be fun
  • Tuscan Speed 6
  • Mitsubishi FTO Super Car
@singlepaddy @turnupdaheat @FlipJ and all others
if enough interest is shown I can set up something for Friday night.

I seem to have opened up a can of worms with my Nordschleife question, but I'm digging the discussion.

As for passing on that track you would hope the tailing driver would show patience and pick the right opportunity to make a clean pass. Also you would hope the person being hounded by said driver would check his ego at the door and let the faster person pass...that's in a perfect world of course!!!

That being said, it might be an interesting experiment.

And he has been following SNAIL for a while but mentioned something to me that i found very interesting. I will let you all know before what the ''Enigmatic1'' HAS IN MIND lol. But to make it a succes i will need your help. All i need from you guys a pic/image of your driver in your chosen colour. a head shot and a full bodied shot. these pictures can be taken in ''travel mode' and any location.

I would appreciate having all 3 images but for those SNAILs who think this is too much work and can not be bothered or think those of us that do these things have too much time on our hands ,no worries i understand, just a random snail trying to leave his mark .on snail trail no matter how insignificant it may look to the Giant Tortoise(turtle) lol.

I will have a short trailer soon so jump on the ORANGE WAGON and lets go lol.

@OwensRacing and I tried to do a series at the Nord. Owens actually had a pretty good turnout for a few times.

My concept for those interested was based on 'recycler method' . Use recently used SNAIL Cars and have a 2 lapper with fast tire ware on.

Example
  • - The Nissan Z - should be lovely there.
  • Ferrari 430 Scuderia
  • Even the Alpine with its great handling should be fun
  • Tuscan Speed 6
  • Mitsubishi FTO Super Car

I wild be interested in this, just not sure how much I'd be available to race on Friday nights being I work at a restaurant. Those cars you pointed out would be great fun at the ring!
