data guys - Trying to get D1 data in and I keep getting an error popup that says :

There was a problem

A server error occurred. The page will reload.

Seems to happen almost every time I enter something that causes a recalculation. Anyone else ever see this? I don't have the patience to enter the data if I have to reload the page every time I enter a gap :P

That seems to be the new norm for Google Docs these days.... I'll usually enter gaps first and then put in the total time. You still get the error but not as often. Either way it's a PITA!

I have resorted to entering the best laps and gaps in an excel file for each race, then copy/paste the column of numbers in to approriate locations, as a range, in the google sheet. It doesn't usually flake out on the best lap numbers but it freaks out every time on the gaps. The difference here is, instead of it reloading 60+ times, it only does it 6. nmcp's solution of holding the total time value out until after the gaps are entered would probably produce the very same results.

Sometimes I even get in 2-3 ranges before the page explodes and has to reload. Sometimes the data I entered is retained, sometimes not.

Same here Dragon... Not sure if the forum allows attachments of excel files but here's goes...

Thanks guys, your comments gave me some ideas. One thing I noticed is that some columns aside from the finish position had conditional formatting on for gold silver bronze (including gap, total time, and best lap). I turned that off for those columns and it seems to have reduced the occurance of the error a bit (could be coincidence though).

Another idea is to delete the formula for total time for the drivers in the race, enter gaps, then refill the formula (similar to importing from another sheet, but I'm trying to avoid that). Not entering total time first didn't seem to be helping me.

This dang cloud nonsense is just a fad anyway ;)

ETA: just had another thought. It seems the power rankings haven't been updated in a while. Is there any way there's a wayward power rankings sheet out there somehow referencing the current results sheet and maybe complicating the recalc process? Long shot, but I figured I'd throw it out there.

If someone wrecks me or boots me out of the way, if it's on purpose or accident. I don't want them to wait up, to me, it's just wastes more time trying to race each other again. Just keep going and I'll catch up, just letting all the D1 drivers know if it happens.

There's just something in me that can't do that. If I accidentally take some one out, or if they go off/hit the wall and I think I had even the tiniest amount to do with it, it's my natural reaction to stop and wait.

Since the wizard who set all these brooms to sweeping has retired, bitrot has set in. If someone has the experience and time to work out what all those brooms are doing and either keep them working or set up another brigade of brooms, please step up.

Yeah I agree, I like to wait and expect others to do the same if there's a blatant punt.

However (and this is why I can understand LLOYD's view) - PSA: If you do make an error that you feel needs to be rectified on track PLEASE be aware of all the other cars around you and only slow down if behind you is clear and do it off the racing line. Sometimes this means you may have to continue 2 or 3 turns at race pace before pulling to the side and letting the victim pass.

I don't recall who specifically I saw, but there has been a couple times in the past weeks and in practice where someone has tried to give a spot back immediately after the incident and it really messed up the pack of cars not involved.

I'd be happy to after nat finals. Lets talk on Sunday if possible. I need to know who still has the most knowledge and details on the admin rights. If I make Silverstone I wouldn't be able to do ongoing maintenance, but I should be able to right the ship at least.

PM me the details of when you can be available and shoot me a PSN FR. We'll make something happen.

I'll always wait for someone if I caused something, and needs to be rectified. I'll give the position back.
I just don't want people to do the for me, it slows me and us down while battling all over again. Just keep going and I'll do my thing. :) it's just my view but if you still want to slow down for me, go right ahead :)

@Silent James oops I mean @Silent James

Here's your official S.N.A.I.L. Welcome Post!

Thanks for your interest!
Here's what you need to know (and do) in order to join:

We run a clean league by enforcing a strict penalty system based on the S.N.A.I.L. OLR (which is a modified version of the GTP OLR). We also expect all of our drivers to know and follow The Good Racecraft Guide.
Please become versed in both if you aren't already. Once that is complete, please follow the steps below to complete your entry into the league:

1. You take the S.N.A.I.L. OLR and Racecraft Test

2. You run the Time Trial and submit your information by 23:59 EST on Saturday night if you want to race this Sunday.

3. @JLBowler PM's you with your assigned Division that we feel will give you the closest competition. You will be added to the drivers list.

4. Send a PSN friend request to the Race Director or Primary Host from your assigned SNAIL Division. Sunday night you will need to sort the online lobbies by friends and join the lobby named 'snailracing.org Division_(x) based off your Division placement from JLBowler. That lobby will be where you race Sunday.

5. You drive fast and clean on Sunday 👍

The original post has everything you need to know about what to expect on Sunday night and what you will need to have completed in order to be competitive. If you have any questions, please feel free to post your question on the thread.
If you have a preference for car/wheel colour and racing number, please follow the instruction contained here.

During the week we run a number of different events, we encourage all SNAILs to join as many as possible.
Welcome to S.N.A.I.L.

Hey thanks, I got the quiz done and also the time trial submitted. Just waiting on being assigned to a division. This looks like a lot of fun!

In the "SNAIL Directors' Points Tally and Eliminations Votes-New" document.

After @Dragonwhisky moves the data into the results doc, all data should be enter in the results doc. It's not the end of the world at this point. As long as it's only the best lap times or the gaps, you can copy and paste them in. Don't copy and paste into a document that directly has a formula in it.

In the "SNAIL Directors' Points Tally and Eliminations Votes-New" document.

That would be why it's not in the main results document, since I copied the sheets from the director's doc to the results doc yesterday evening.

Once again, excepting for the total time value, timing data should not be entered in the director's doc. It should be entered in the results doc after the scoring has been transfered from the director's doc.

I know, sometimes it's easier for some to go ahead and enter this data right after racing Sunday night, but it really causes the brooms to freak out when moving the score sheets up to the results doc. Have any of you ever had to weather a broomstorm? It ain't fun and it ain't pretty. Old fat men raging at google docs for being a steaming pile of monkey dung is just plain ugly.

uh oh.....uh oh....but that's the one I was given access too :nervous:

If you will also be the data entry specialist for your division, we will get you access to the results doc.

Ok, I got it....:banghead:.......I was given access to directors file for the immediate scorekeeping back in D8. I saw that the results sheet was view only so I assumed I updated the former. Our data and data BU guys were not there Sunday. I was asked to put in the gaps, I knew we weren't supposed to put anything else right away in directors doc but I thought it was ok after. What do I know:dopey:
Sorry if I caused any headaches, just trying to help!
I'd rather not be the data guy as I'm already main replay loader and second BU host.

I would like to see a slower, never before used car...

Like the rare Ford RS200 or the quirky and challenging Peugeot 205 Turbo 16.

But that's probably just me :)

I'll pick the Lancia Status one of these days when I win D3... rigghhht!

My bad Azure Flare, i didn't know. Will address you as Azure Flare from now on and i still will remain as back up host.

How about Happy Pistons?.. is that out of the rule book?

is this an Exo sandwich?

Hey guys... I bought the GTR for the new combo and after I painted the wheels ( which came out a different color then I selected ) my ps3 froze.
After I rebooted and tried to take it for a test drive it froze again. I ended up doing this 3 times with the same result.
Finally got fed up and sold the car. Btw the system would not let me change the wheel color either.
I tried out some of my other cars after I sold the GTR and everything seems fine now.
Problem is I don't want to buy another $950,000 car and end up with the same result. I may have to skip that combo this week.

Anyone got any thoughts on this out there?

I may be in trouble too:nervous: ..... First time data collection for me.... I added data to said director's document....

I will check tonight when I get home and if necessary copy them over to the right spot

now, what if i could only race during the summer, and then a very limited schedule after. would it still be worthwhile to join? and where do i submit my time? on here or to you in a PM?

Read the post (links included) that you quoted. The "time trial" link will be especially helpful toward answering your question about where to submit it.

As far as your limited schedule, check out this link.

@MajorBlixem I noticed you did that and copied the best laps to the results doc shortly after you did it, last night.

I believe it's not a big deal to put data in the directors doc AFTER @Dragonwhisky has moved the data. I think he just eliminates that when he creates then new sheets for the upcoming week.
