@FSportIS
Here's your official S.N.A.I.L. Welcome Post!
Thanks for your interest!
Here's what you need to know (and do) in order to join:
We run a clean league by enforcing a strict penalty system based on the S.N.A.I.L. OLR (which is a modified version of the GTP OLR). We also expect all of our drivers to know and follow The Good Racecraft Guide.
Please become versed in both if you aren't already. Once that is complete, please follow the steps below to complete your entry into the league:
1. You take the S.N.A.I.L. OLR and Racecraft Test
2. You run the Time Trial and submit your information by 23:59 EST on Saturday night if you want to race this Sunday.
3. @JLBowler PM's you with your assigned Division that we feel will give you the closest competition. You will be added to the drivers list.
4. Send a PSN friend request to the Race Director or Primary Host from your assigned SNAIL Division. Sunday night you will need to sort the online lobbies by friends and join the lobby named 'snailracing.org Division_(x) based off your Division placement from JLBowler. That lobby will be where you race Sunday.
5. You drive fast and clean on Sunday 👍
The original post has everything you need to know about what to expect on Sunday night and what you will need to have completed in order to be competitive. If you have any questions, please feel free to post your question on the thread.
If you have a preference for car/wheel colour and racing number, please follow the instruction contained here.
During the week we run a number of different events, we encourage all SNAILs to join as many as possible.
Welcome to S.N.A.I.L.
You're late...
I assume it's not easy to race in any division in SNAIL.There has been a considerable influx of quick drivers recently which, when combined with the existing lineup of talented drivers from Div1 down, has increased the level of competition considerably throughout the league. I know you guys consider it a badge of honour to race without much practice time but it can only be a good thing for the league overall if that means it is not easy to compete in the 2nd of 7 divisions currently active in SNAIL.
I assume it's not easy to race in any division in SNAIL.
The amount of practice time I get is not based on my desire to get better or how cool it sounds to be in D2 (barely) with very little practice. It is determined by how much time I have in my life to sit down and play GT6. If I have one good night to practice between Thurs and Sun then I'm good. Otherwise I'm screwed.
Either way I'm not concerned. I will always be fairly placed in a division that accurately reflects my level of competitiveness amongst my fellow drivers.
you're in the right place!I actually found you guys when i randomly joined a room on Sunday in the public lobby. I asked him if beginner is allowed to join and he said yeah and directed me here.
I would like to sign up for probably a beginners division. Please let me know what car(s) I need to buy and track I need to practice on.
I usually drive with ABS-1 only (but sometimes driving line on new tracks) with default tire (comfort and sport almost always) on all cars. I prefer one make race, spec race where skills is more involved than tuning.
Not for long.I'm first in points in my division with 0
Oh umm! Well!Not for long.
Scoring sheets have been copied to the Results document and it's now ready for the data specialists to do their thing.
to all the scorekeepers for keeping the Directors doc data to the necessary minimum. The copying went without a hitch.
Thanks for all the welcome
Wow, this is so hardcore lol and overwhelming for a beginner. From my understanding, here is the initiation process right?
1. Read the SNAIL racing bible and pass the test.
2. Run Scion FR-S '12 on Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca with all aids off except ABS-1 and submit the result on https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1ygl8z5SbePs-h8jC3bByzExRfSmYXKRIYogTpAHXvBM/viewform
3. Upon receiving a division assignment from @JLBowler , send him a PSN friend request.
4. Drive fast and clean on Sunday.
Alright, here are the questions.
1. #2, can I drive with driving line on? I'm not familiar with many tracks as a beginner.
2. What specific car do I need to buy? What specific things do i need to do with that car (oil change, tire etc?) for this upcoming Sunday race?
3. What track are we running this Sunday?
4. Can any members on here practice with me a little bit to get a real idea of the SNAIL bible guide? I actually like the strict rules to have clean driving. I have tried couple online racing and those are death race lol.
Alright, back to re-read the bible guide again I'm excited to become a SNAIL

So far as I know, only D7 drivers are allowed to use any aids besides ABS.
Ok. I was just saying, last I read, D7 is allowed to, although the first post may not reflect the current divisional structure, accurately.we dont use any aids besides abs 1
Add me on psn and I'll practice with you and help explain any of your questions, psn: jay-c2000Thanks for all the welcome

So true! BUT, run it till you can't screw up!Practice is overrated to a certain extent. I find I max out to my current level of skill and knowledge within the first 10 laps. To get faster I need to learn something new; and I know I have a lot to learn. Before joining SNAIL I didn't know anything about racing lines, apexes, turn in points etc. This all happened during my SNAIL career and I'm always trying to improve, asking questions, and watching replays.

Yes overrunning a track/combo leads to misjudgment.
Simply change!
Yes. Please go to the first post and scroll down to the 'Settings' section. Then look for "Driving Aids" and read the note (and click on the hyperlink as well).1. #2, can I drive with driving line on? I'm not familiar with many tracks as a beginner.
You won't regret it! Just be warned though.. you should avoid salt and French restaurants )I'm excited to become a SNAIL

Funny you should mention that. I just changed the wording a couple of weeks ago (both on the first post and the linked post) so that it's relevant no matter how many divisions we have. 👍Ok. I was just saying, last I read, D7 is allowed to, although the first post may not reflect the current divisional structure, accurately.
I ran Combo 3 so much on the weekend that I got really good at runing 1:59s. It became very difficult to change what I was doing in an attempt to run quicker...practice makes permanent, not perfect.
Yea true, you must practice in traffic!I ran Combo 3 so much on the weekend that I got really good at runing 1:59s. It became very difficult to change what I was doing in an attempt to run quicker...practice makes permanent, not perfect.
I think you guys need to learn how to practice properly.
You have to try many different lines, gears and brake points. Doing a hundred laps trying to perfect a line that does not suit your style is just a recipe for frustration.
In the end, even if you aren't as fast as D1, just find a way to be consistent at your pace. The key is minimizing mistakes. If you can run 10 consistent laps at 1:05, you will beat guys who run 1:04 on 9 out of 10 laps and crash on one lap.
The main thing is practice to be consistent at your pace.
Your special!I just race man, I get bored of practice.
