What is this for?

Some of you know my family is planning to race at Watkins Glen on November 1-2 with the ChumpCar endurance series. We're using a 1994 Volvo 960 turbo. My younger brother had two of them. His daily driver that has 201k miles and a parts car with 120k. We're going to use the motor from the 120k car and any other parts that need to swapped out.

Today was our first time with my uncle and oldest brother getting together to strip out the car. My uncle has been putting some hours on his own since it's at his house. We striped out everything we could from the interior and trunk as well as took the engine out of the 120k car. Here are some pics from our progress.

I see two seats for a high quality home built racing rig in that pile of parts.

In fact, I kept the passenger seat and sliding rail. I plan to put it on my rig that is prepped for a seat. I just need to put the MDF on the PVC and install the seat with a seat cover. It will be a nice upgrade over my marginally cushioned folding chair.

I have a plan for doing much the same thing. I don't have a car laying around so it will involve a trip to Pick N Pull. I'm waiting on a half price sale so I can get any non power seat with sliders for 17.98. Once I do that, I will have a full original playseat that I will be looking to part ways with.

I spent an afternoon at a wrecking yard and didn't find anything decent. A search for "race seat" on kijiji led me to a nice set for 100 bucks and I sold the extra seat the next day for 75 as a "sim racing seat".

In other news, did you guys see the hacked FGT in the new Seasonal TT? This really bites. It had been mostly limited to CFW until now I think.

Ya. I was actually getting into this one, too. Fortunately, that guy can't drive, so it's obviously fake. I'm afraid we'll soon see guys that do a better job of hiding it.

I had a hard time tuning it, just maxed out DF and messed around with the tranny. Hopefully I can get a hold of a decent tune from a friend tomorrow and give it another go. Unfortunately I'm not very comfortable on this track.

Well if I wasent in Gresham, OR I would try to help but...

As per all the above, we're doing the inaugural Friday night SNAIL Concourse Club this coming Friday, September 5, where we follow normal SNAIL procedures but using the very expensive cars. I will host, opening the lobby sometime around 9:00 PM Eastern with the first of three combos starting at 9:30 PM Eastern.

Through this thread and PMs, we've come up with everything but the track for the final combo. Details (first two links stolen from the GTP GT6 master car list 1st post):
Combo 1
Abarth 1952 1500 Biposto Bertone B.A.T 1 Concept (Pebble Beach Award 2010) on Comfort Soft, 305 PP & 77 HP after oil change (no dealer info: "--")
Madrid Reverse - 5 laps

Combo 2
Ferrari 1961 250 GT Berlinetta passo corto CN.2521 on Sports Medium, 461 PP & 288 HP after oil change (454 PP & 276 HP in dealership)
Track TBD

Combo 3
Alfa Romeo GIULIA TZ2 carrozzata da ZAGATO CN.AR750106 '65 on Racing Hard, 494 PP & 177 HP after oil change (486 PP & 169 HP in dealership)
Spa-Francorchamps - 4 laps

Where should we run the GTO? Spa and the bulk of the tracks won't work due to the short gearing, wherein the car bounces off the redline below 130 mph while having 288 HP to get it there quickly. The tracks that will work/you're voting on are:
Eiger Nordwand Short (Forward or Reverse)
Brands Hatch '80s GP
Trial Mountain
Twin Ring Motegi East
Autumn Ring
Tsukuba

I'm looking forward to racing everyone this coming Friday; this is going to be fun.
I edited the post above - in testing tonight I learned that the GTO has extremely short gearing, maxing out (as in the engine dying) before 130 mph (and 288 hp to get you there quickly). Which means Spa won't work along with most other tracks. Where should we run the GTO? The tracks that will work and you're now voting on are:
Eiger Nordwand Short (Forward & Reverse)
Brands Hatch '80s GP
Trial Mountain
Twin Ring Motegi East
Autumn Ring
Tsukuba

Brands Hatch seems the best choice in that there's a balance of technical and flat-out with some built-in passing opportunities. Twin Ring comes next, but it just didn't feel right compared to Brands Hatch. Eiger is always fun, but keep in mind I'm weird like that.

I've moved Spa-Francorchamps to the Alfa combo. That one is going to be fun; it felt like the car was built for that track.

No need to tune the FGT. It handles perfectly. The only thing you have to think about is throttle control. And in 4th gear. It really needs to be fed slowly as you exit a turn, master that and you're golden.

Also, drive it at 50% HP and then 75%, then 100%. This really helps. It's like a GP3, then GP2, then full on F1 car.

I'd vote for Brands Hatch 80s GP. What are the requirements to enter the concourse race? I know I'm not in the Race of Champions.

I like Circuito de Madrid, preferably Reverse. The SSR5/7 could suit it as well.

@Wardenclyffe

Requirements - be around Friday for a one-off event with Too-Expensive-For-SNAIL cars, and not already running in Race of Champeens. Come have fun with cool, classy cars. Pretend you are Steve McQueen without any crashing for the director.

Those are the requirements in a nutshell. ETA: this special event will never be scheduled to conflict with the RoC, so that will never be a factor.

Apologies for the confusion; Madrid Reverse is already "locked in" for the Abarth Bertone in Combo 1, and that one is going to be fun on CS tires. It's only the track in Combo 2 that needs a community vote and there are only a handful of tracks where the car won't bounce off the redline. Here's a copy/paste with slight editing to make it all more clear:
Combo 1
Abarth 1952 1500 Biposto Bertone B.A.T 1 Concept (Pebble Beach Award 2010) on Comfort Soft, 305 PP & 77 HP after oil change (no dealer info: "--")

Eiger Nordwand Short (Forward or Reverse)
Brands Hatch '80s GP
Trial Mountain
Twin Ring Motegi East
Autumn Ring
Tsukuba

Alfa Romeo GIULIA TZ2 carrozzata da ZAGATO CN.AR750106 '65 on Racing Hard, 494 PP & 177 HP after oil change (486 PP & 169 HP in dealership)

Nope, I need more power.
Try to cut downforce to the minimum acceptable to gain top speed. Down force is most needed in the front end to help on high speed turning so just focus on getting your car's turning ability and control on that throttle.

Ermm, I need more power and downforce. :D (and anything else that will help me)

I found a set up, just need to try it out. Unfortunately I have a bit of a wrist injury that is very painful. The FGT provides a bit of a workout and I doubt I can get into the low 30s with my hand wrapped. Icing it right now, so will see how it feels later.

@DrKronin , that's a heck of a lap pal. Good work.

I can go over some tunes with you in psn if you'd like. With a small amount of time, I'm quite confident that we can get your car to act however you need.

Not sure I can give it a go today, but I'll let you know if I need to adjust the set up someone gave me this morning. It definitely looks wonky but I know it works. I think I just may have run out of talent at 1:34s. I'll blame the track, that's right, I don't like the track too much.

If you want to reach max $50M starting with no money, you have to complete the Red Bull X2014 Standard Championship Race 5 @ Nurburgring GP/F 181 times. I plan on doing this so I can get the pricey cars and buy out entire manufacturers like Ferrari or some others.
