Yay, another slow car at a tiny track where keeping momentum is all that matters... I like combos like the Lexus at Grand Valley. Keep those up. Real driver's cars on challenging tracks.

Not really, a real drivers car would be that RUF. I may not have been much good with it on Tokyo but I'm pretty sure if we brought it to another track Sunday would've been alot different. The Lexus is fun but it isn't a challenge to drive.

I would tend to agree with you @BayouSimDrifter. I suppose it depends on the definition of "a real driver", but in my mind it's a driver who has to have complete control of the car in order to achieve the highest level of success. Touring cars and most race cars do not require the highest level of driver skill, in my opinion. Cars like the Lotus this week require you to be in complete control of the car at all times or one little slip up will put you seconds back. Does this leave for exciting racing? Maybe not, but it does require you to be at the top of your game the whole race.

This post contains the statistics I put together from the 2014 racing year. I don't remember doing an exact number of races, but it might be in there as a coincidental stat.

No, it was only a joke! Must. Fight. Urge. To. Crunch. Numbers. ;)

It's just that probabilities can be deceiving sometimes, i would take the bet that there is a duplicate combo hidden somewhere in the races done, seeing the odds the same as a bet on the outcome a coin flip. :)

As much as I can take pride in finishing 3rd because I didn't spin out, or just ran 1/2 sec slower, but consistent, I find more in putting down a pole lap when it counts and leading the field all the way to the checkers.

We ran duplicate cars for sure, but I can't remember an exact match for car and track combo from the 2014 season.

I still need lap times and some other info, but here are the cars and tracks and tire info

Just curious. Am I the only one that prefers to use premium cars? Yes, there are some standards that aren't premium yet but there's plenty of premium cars to choose from so we can have beautiful pictures and number plates. Just asking. I'm not the only one with this mentality?

I like the variety, especially the Lotus. I think the change to CS/CM is going to make some of those cars a lot more fun to drive - the Bellet on CS would have been much more of a challenge.

New tire format helps a lot of cars, i agree

Just wait until the rest of the tire regulation changes take effect.

If you want to know when that will be, I direct you to this post.

The first part gave more tire options to the lower PP cars. Maybe the regulations for racing tires on race cars will be split three ways to include race mediums?

If we changed out every combo (which we don't) for every week we race a year, it would take 1 year shy of 1,000 for us to work through them all. 50 generations of Snails. It's a completely unreachable goal and should not even be a consideration when making a prize pick. We are just flat never going to get there.
 I for one would not be surprised if there wound up being 50 generations of Snails. (Sounds like a premise for a sci-fi movie involving 3D virtual reality racing special effects. ^^ ;)

But those are extremes in math. :scared: (Not that there's anything wrong with that. :sly:)

For just an example, just because it's not possible to do all possible combinations, doesn't mean that it would be desirable to be racing various GT300s on configurations of Grand Valley for the rest of eternity, 50 generations, or even 6 months. :) Mostly because there are a lot of easy opportunities to race GT300s, if that's your bag.
Not because people don't like it GT300s or GV. I think lots of people really love that! But because of the human tendency to find variety surprisingly attractive, whether a person realizes it or not.
Meaning even people who would vote to have 100% GT300s all the time because they love them, would probably, after a time, enjoy something else too sometimes.

Yeah, in fact, as I suspected... the better (or easier or faster) the car is, the worse I do compared to other people. Because it's not a challenge for most others (particularly faster drivers), and I'm not really used to cars that turn so nicely. Not sure how to explain that.
(Not pushing any other venues here :odd:, just describing MY experience & situation. 💡)

Sunday was only the 3RD TIME I ever raced in a GT300 with real people. And I've barely even used them in single-player That includes an organized club race in GT5, and Thursday's SNAIL practice session last week!!

For some reason I thought for sure I'd be too tired to even do the Lexus race last Sunday... But found it a good pick for the last races, since it was almost relaxing in one way. Even though I was super cautious because of my unfamiliarity and not wanting to create a problem because of that... I actually found it at least a bit easier to be cautious, without just totally joy-riding it out.

Unlike the RUF at Tokyo.

I think that RUF is not so much (or not just) a driver's car as it is a car buff driver's car.
I don't remember who it was who said he comes for the exciting racing, more than "realistic simulator" thing. But that's not uncommon. I think SNAIL members, as well as generally people who play GT, stretch a range of "motivations" of what appeals about racing here... or elsewhere. Some may be more into motorsports, others more into the cars themselves, and others more about an immersive experience feeling as realistic as possible, others mainly about crowded wheel to wheel racing excitement however. (Most a combination of several.)

Personally I'm all about the cars.
(Just sayin', not trying to convince anyone else to be, promise!)

All viable I think. No wrong answer.

It's funny how we all vary in taste/experiences as I feel the exact opposite! I loved the RUF and am bored by the 'Toyota'... :)
I agree totally with you on that one.
I don't seem to do very well with the slow plodding 4 cyl cars...I just bring my dog along so he can stick his head out the window. :D
I don't do well in the full on race cars either, but for some reason give me a high horsepower rear wheel drive car that's a little tail happy like that Ruff or the Aston or a Corvette, then I seem to get better results.

Different strokes for different folks as they say.

Ummm. We currently have race medium tires available for use. Check the tire regulations in post #1.

You just described my 2nd race and first SNAIL race WIN... (Not that I'm proud on being almost the slowest man on track)...

I'm at least the only one that posts about it. Do you not consider racing a slow car around a course, racing? Setting up someone to pass them, and having it take 3-4 corners running side by side to get it done is a lot of fun :D

How about to include SS ??:sly:

I'd be down for SS on low PP race cars! It would make for some very interesting racing!

I do, but when it's a 20 minute race. That's not fun when you only have 10-12 minutes to do so. More like a seasonal at that point.
