There is an option to used default setups, which is spec racing.
The biggest problem for the main SNAIL series would be the very limited car selection compared to GT. You'd be going over repeats pretty fast, but I honestly don't mind, because the racing is what matters and the racing is always good in the main SNAIL series (although I'm a huge fan of the PITS series, my favourite now, because I love endurance).
Realistically GT6's car list isn't that big if you take out all of the repeats. I think someone figured out that it was like 500 cars...

PCars has nowhere near that number, so it's a huge difference. And their selection of street cars is extremely limited in the non-super car variety, which the Sunday series uses a lot. But I honestly don't see an issue with there.
A big issue is the reverse grid for the second race of each combo...

@Die_Birdy_Die You're right. While the esport isn't brand new, it's now moving out of its infancy and becoming something more than just a niche market that those not participating can watch. Whether it be internet based broadcasts or mainstream media conduits. Having an audience watching will bring advertising dollars to the event(s) and that's where the real money is and what I would bet GTSport is aiming for.

@singlepaddy Yes. GTSport is reported to have a single player aspect but it's unlikely to be very robust in nature. Using rFactor 2's model, you can get the game for relatively cheap, $24.99, and play offline. I haven't played it but if it's anything near or better than iRacing's fully subscription based sim, the single player mode will be quick and easy and you'll spend all kinds of money and time tweaking game and hardware settings to get the most out of the experience. For rFactor at least, you can go one of two ways for online play. Lifetime will cost you $85 and an annual will run you $12. That's if you have the PC hardware in place to run it. If you don't you can figure another $800.00-$1000.00 to put together a machine.

The console sims have the benefit of holding down hardware costs to a degree and taking that variable out of the equation so may still be the better option for the general gaming public versus the wide open arena that is the PC market.

Other console sims like pCars and AC are both too complex yet starved for features for the casual player.

Yeah, SNAIL is an "eLeague" but it's never been for profit. It's diametrically opposed to the direction GT and most other sims are headed. Pretty sure just having to have the PS+ membership for online play will reduce the membership here, unless a sim comes out, whether GTSport or otherwise, that just blows everyone away and is functionally suitable for the league to maintain its core themes and values.

SNAIL may have to evolve into something that may end up vastly different from what it's grown into over that last 5 years. How many would pay, above what you pay currently, to race in SNAIL on a weekly basis? Even if all it cost was a buck a week, it'll add up on top of whatever the "sanctioning" body that provides the platform charges for the privilege. With money involved, service level expectations change. While it might still be the cheapest racing (console based sim) a person can get, the level of investment is a matter of financial perspective.

I prefer LMP's :) trust me the reason I'm not over there isn't because of the game it's because I've been saving up for my PS4 and waiting for the price to come down again. Next on my list is PSVR then maybe a new wheel (maybe next christmas)

Is that for GT only or online gaming of any kind on the Ps4
Playing online on the PS4 in general you have to be a PS+ member

That is a good question...

WOW!!! The rich get richer and greedier also apparently.:irked:
I'm gonna miss you guys...:ill:
Yeah when they launched the PS4 they brought out the must have PS+ to play online. and at $70 dollars/year it's now more expensive than an Xbox live membership (which is basicly the same thing as PS+)

Since i am a casual gamer and pretty much only play gran turismo anymore and since i have no desire to get a wheel or anything, i will wait for a game to come out that serves casuals like me before i ever move to a new game. If all options going forward require a large investment of time and/or money to play and dont support the dualshock, then ill just dust off my ps2 and get back into gt4. I really dont care what happens ill just adjust accordingly and go on. Sim racing is fun and a nice way to pass time between work and family responsibilities but it is nowhere near the top of my priority list and not worth (to me) any significant investment.

I guess I'll stick it out at SNAIL until GT6 takes its last breath then it's Adios Mu Cha Cho's

But this was my point. PD's tie up with the FIA and its esport intentions was originally announced back in 2014 and when GTSport was unveiled it was clearly indicated that it was not a continuation of the GT series as we have known it but the vehicle which was going to bring those esport intentions to fruition.

Since then, in typical PD fashion, the waters have been muddied and along with the delay being announced, Kaz, who was originally saying GTSport was not going to be the new GT7 is now saying it is going to be the new GT7.

Either way, it was clear from some time back that PD were delving headlong into the esports arena so it doesn't come as news to me.

Check out the Project Cars leagues, there's gotta be something to keep you interested. You already have the wheel, just need a PS4. And they're gonna be cheaper after holiday season because of the PS4 Pro coming out. In a year the PS4 will be reasonably priced for a refurbished model. Patience grasshopper

Unfortunately I think there will be quite a few with the same thought's as paddy.

I for one, don't see it this way. There's not too many things we do, that are a lot of fun, that don't come without some sort of price tag attached. I figure I've spent about $1500 on my gaming stuff (ps3, ps4, three wheel's and my rig) in the last three years. That's about $40 per month. The $70/year for PS+ works out to $1.35/wk. For the amount of hours of entertainment and camaraderie I get out of this each week it is well worth the price of admission. I just have to think back to this past Friday night when a few of us spent the evening in a tomfoolery room in PCars, the fun and laughter was worth the money I spent to get here. Sat night I spent $125 for dinner for two with another couple for a few hours of entertainment with good friends. That in direct comparison to a few hours online is a lot of money, yet I don't seem to be bothered at all paying that at the restaurant. My real life racing used to cost me an average of $800/weekend. So in the grand scheme of things, I really think we get a good value for our buck for this online racing stuff we call our hobby.

Oh I'll still be racing in some form or another not gonna give that up..
Like aero said after playing single player for awhile on different titles the itch to get back online will be to hard resist..and "I'll BE BACK" at some point I'm sure.

Delving? Are you kidding me? They've been "delving" into esports since 2008.

Kaz is resting on the laurels of everything prior to GT5 and PD and Sony will likely miss the eSport auto racing train they laid all that ground work for from way back in 2008.

They put the tracks down for auto racing to go the esports route for crying out loud. PD, Sony and Nissan should be paving the way with these big money tournaments and leagues. Who here heard of this Cloud Sport organization before yesterday? Certainly wasn't me.

I don't see the cost of dealing with Lobban in that calculation. Is it because it's too hard to quantify?

/kidding, @Mike Lobban, you know we love you!

I agree completely. Originally I bought GT5 for GT Academy and the chance to enjoy racing and 'driving' fast inexpensively and legally (and safely). It gave me that fix perfectly. I have played GT almost every day since I got it four years ago. It's been a relatively inexpensive investment for the amount of joy I get from it. I get an extreme amount of joy from diving as well, but a two tank boat dive can run $130. Totally worth it. Everything costs money and unfortunately due to the modern greed that @singlepaddy alluded to the powers that be are milking that as much as they can. I don't like it, but $70 a year is still a lot cheaper than a set of racing tires, never mind a Red Devil. The main thing is I truly hope that we are able to maintain our league in GT or PCars, if it costs a bit to enjoy the speed fix and the camaraderie then I'm OK with that.

OMG, I don't even want to think of what the costs associated with being a buddy of his for almost 20 years would be. :scared: My herd used to be profitable for example, then Mike came along!

Yes, it would not matter which division i am placed in, i will always want to race in SNAIL up to last day Sony supports GT6 online like when Sony turned off online to GT5.
You are a better man than I Champ I like to race but I also want to be competitive.

It was due to drugs aero you should be good :)

What is this, pick on Lobban day? You wankers should be paying ME.
Aero got me hooked on wool, it's his fault.
DP, shut........never mind.
Someone mentioned drugs.... No way, not here. We are a sober racing league, just ask T-Bong or that Lobban guy.
I miss RacinChamp the mostest, cause he's the bestest host.........ever.
SinglePaddy for the car tunes, I still show them off. Best ever.
Raw,well, eat me Raw. Been wanting to say that for a long time. I've missed you too........with every bullet in the gun. Lol
Anyway, the trickle over to the dark side is heating up, you are all welcome. Don't worry about it not being "Spec", the tuning stuff is really not that hard. Even I picked up on it fast and I carry a heavy Duh factor.
I can see the Pits series becoming the new go to series once all you guys buy up to the big leagues.
Could they not have put at least one oval track in these new games? DP loves ovals. Almost as much as C+M.

Just to keep on topic.........

RACING CARS TONIGHT? Mock race, in the dark, unlit track, tires that won't heat up, killer turn one.....should be fun. I might even get my pit strategy right for once, nah, it wouldn't be the same.

SRM practice or PITS practice?

I'd love to get a series started/for the to be a series in PCars that has 2-3 combos in a night and 10-15 minute sprint races. There's a heck of a lot less cars in PCars so it's something to potentially work around to keep variety up.

One can get CLOSE to the SNAIL format, but no copy. The tire issue can be avoided due to the short SNAIL races and the mandate to always run in default (clear) weather. However, the fuel bug is still present and the lack of ability to completely control driver aids would still be an issue. At least the last time I checked.

In my completely honest opinion, true spec racing outside of big brother sanctioned events will be dead after GT6 unless PCARS2 remedies those issues with their "default setup" option.

But with that said, and what Lobban eluded too... Tuning really isn't all that awful anyways. If there's one thing I learned from Sunday's, it's that consistency pays off. My 2nd place Wednesday was a surprise and my setup is all of 4 changes from the default setup. I was certainly not fastest with a 7th position in the grid and that was a damn fast lap for me too.
