D2 report

No real issues. We were done just after 11:30. Spacing for the first qually was a bit of a challenge. The Ferrari qually caused some issues when people spun out and reenter the track. All 9 drivers on the list showed up for a 100% attendance. Must be a first in SNAIL. We had 8 of the 9 drivers in the Party Chat and the 9th one was kept up to date with text chat. Seemed to work well.

We had a few non-snailers join but we asked politely for them to leave and to look up snailracing.org to find out how to join.

Overall not to bad for the first night with GTS.

Scores for October 29 have been pushed to Data and is ready for the Data Specilaists

Please learn tracks before race night, 2 races down the gutter from someone over braking turn 1 or 2 and I have to dodge to not cause an accident, usually putting myself in the wall...

From my past experience, over braking has never been reportable, am I wrong in this?

This is a funny comment. I sympathize.. but....
Over breaking is still allowed.
Drifting is still allowed.
Protecting your position, still allowed.

True.

Definitely a difference between brake checking and simply braking early.

I figure the new game may see some come'rs and go'ers as far as the div placements are concerned. The promotion relegation system will eventually get things aligned according to how everybody is transitioning to the new game/ physics engine.

Those that can run a time trial will be separated from those that can actually race in due time.

It's a learning curve for everyone. I qualified second in the first race last night then got stuck on the starting grid. After failed attempts to get everyone lined up for a manual grid and our host having his wheel go crazy on him, I packed it in when it was 45 minutes after start time and we still hadn't gotten the first race started.

I have to say that I am finding Sport quite different from 6, and as a result I know I am definitely driving slower, and likely braking earlier than I need to in some instances, but I know that will come with a bit more experience on these newer tracks. I sure hope I'm not holding anyone up, or causing them to crash by avoiding contacting me.

If you requested to join in the last two days, you have been added to a conversation. Read through it and click the link in my post in that conversation to get the time trial instructions. We will probably be closing the conversation out and going back to individual messages next week.

Another thought for qualifying procedure:

When we would line up in the last turn(s) before qualifying, sometimes we'd have to wait for whatever reason and your tires would get ice cold sitting there. Maybe have everyone exit the pits togetger when they're ready to start instead of one by one and slowly make your way around the track to avoid having your tires freeze up. You dont want to battle cold tires on your first Q lap

Also about my joinky keyboard controller attachment: it blows. The keypad is way too small and I'm finding myself hitting mutliple buttons at once while typing. It was only $12, and in theory it works. Might just hold on to it and try to get better at it. It also adds some weight to my ds4 which I kind of like. @MSgtGunny mentioned last night that you could somehow link your smartphone keyboard to your ps4 and use the keypad on your phone to type? Maybe he can shed some light on that because that would be much easier

Maybe even have all drivers exit the pits and meet in the first turn, then in a predetermined order, one by one with space in between, exit the first turn and run a slow, tire warming lap, (stay at 40mph or 50mph or ??) up to the last turn and then accelerate out of last turn to continue on to qualify?

I would assume it would have something to do with bluetooth connectivity, which shouldn't be too hard to work out.

I've really never been a great hot lapper. I can generally put down a solid effort when it counts, but never ultra competitive. Racing is my stronger suit.

Yea I'm also not too good at Time Trials, but the track is safer for everyone when there aren't moving cars for me to smash into.

Was there a tire warm up procedure for qualifying in GT6 ?
It’s really no different. Stop far enough back from start finish line to be at speed by the line.

I think things are complicated enough as they are with the new game.

Keep it simple.
No we didn't, because it wasn't an issue. Everyone started on fresh tires .1 second behind the host and didn't have to worry about 5s delays, traffic and cold tires.

However this is a new game which comes with new issues and obstacles to discuss as a group and overcome. Last night was a teething session, now we know what issues are most likely to arise and how to make it a better experience next week. IMO it was a good night even with the issues we had.

GT Sport is more sensitive and requires more finesse. I was able to get by a lot in GT 6 that I can't in Sport (rumble strips will punish you deeply). Throttle feathering is a must on some low to high speed transitions.

Maybe the group should line up further away from the start finish line.
More time to bring tire temps up to where they would be in typical GT6 situation.
I know tires temps are important to squeeze everything you can out of quality, but as long as everyone has to deal with the same conditions, it's all fair.
The 5 second delay and possibility of traffic in qualifying is an unfortunate issue with this game, at least for now.
