Regarding the use of shifters, just be mindful, that a certain amount of skill is required to achieve optimal and consistent times. One missed upshift or downshift, can spell plenty of lost positions. The only gripe I have is that the game allows h pattern upshifts, and then allows you too paddle down shift. I would prefer to see it locked to one or the other as they do in Assetto Corsa. If your running h pattern shifter, that is the setting it locks and vice versa. On that note, GTS is very tough to get perfectly timed up and downshifts without missing a gear. Anyone using the shifter, may gain an advantage, but it does come with it's own risk. Kudos to the guys that have mastered it.

This is why I didn't bother getting a shifter when I upgraded my wheel. With the way I shift, I would miss too many gears.

Me to lol and I was passing just as many cars on the starts last night without it on cars with a big 1st to 2nd lag it would make sense but I don't see the the overall benefit I have never had a setup with a clutch but doesn't it work with the paddles as well ?

I've heard this a lot, it's the typical argument used in the general threads when people complain about shifters, as they also have a large advantage in certain FIA races.

Yes you could miss a shift, but the benefit gained far outweighs the potential negatives - the starts are so important in SNAIL, and especially when we're reverse grid it should be fairly difficult to weave your way through traffic - but the shifters turn a lot of street cars into rocketships at the start compared to us using controllers/paddle shifters, even in the Jaguar - shifters had a huge advantage at the start, and a decent advantage on any corner exit.

It did with the G29. I would be super shady and use the H shifter for 1-2 then use paddles all the way... Or use clutch and paddle LMAO.

I loved the shifting in other games. Bombing down the ring in a Porsche 962 on Pcars 2 was AMAZING.

Like I said never had a setup with a clutch so I really wasn't sure but if the clutch does work then I would think clutch and paddles would for sure be faster than the H shifter I guess when I get my new wheel we shall see :) the ds4 thing is wearing me out lol

I don't know if they patched it out. I tried clitch/paddles on the CSL and it doesn't work.

Bestbuy right now u can get G29 for 199 here and the shifter is an extra 50 I am just waiting for black Friday to see if it comes down anymore but for that kind of money vs value I don't see anything better

Theres a big difference especially off the line at the start. Have a look at @MikeGrove 's start of R2. 11th to 6th in just over 1 lap/1minute.

And thats not to take anything away from Mikes abilities, you still have to drive the car. But the shifter definitely has a big advantage in these combos that cancel out the "shift lag"

I will probably grab a shifter during the Black Friday sales, but I will also need to invest in a shifter attachment for my Playseat.
The things we do to gain an edge... and what makes SNAIL such a competitive league

Thanks Whitey.

Be careful what you wish for.
Shifting H pattern like a boss ain't easy. Missing gears can cause major car control issues and cost you results; especially depending on your clutch pedal & its bite point.

Also, Neutty is right. Besides the start, the MR-2 had no advantage to be gained from shifting H pattern vs paddle.
I usually go faster using paddles even with significant shift/auto clutch lag. Manual is just too fun to stop.

When Im not H pattern multi-tasking, I am fully focused on the other tasks required for a perfect lap & always more consistent.

If you experienced shift lag from paddles with that car, you may have been shifting at the incorrect RPM. Each car has a specific optimal shift point, which can be found listed at the top of a graph within the car settings for the transmission.

@SAMHAIN85
You should just drive automatic 👍

@SAMHAIN85

You’re speed may not be what it was but you set the benchmark for racecraft in D1. On a night when (in my opinion) racecraft seemed to be thrown out the window, you were extremely patient and set up your passing attempts into logical passing zones. You cost yourself track position and time by being sportsmanlike but your great driving absolutely registered with me and gained my respect.

Watching replays, it was clear you got the short end of the stick on multiple occasions last night.

You deserve better :( & so does the rest of D1. The pinnacle of snail needs a Samhain style standard across the entire grid.
Sometimes guys drive the race as if its Qualifying, braking too late making big errors. "Race pace" is meant to get you & the others to the finish cleanly.

That's how much I got mine for and it was in February 2016. Find out how long Best Buy will have it at that price because I don't think it will get much lower.

I agree at that price. I will go out on a limb and say that if you can stretch the cost, the CSL is a SERIOUS upgrade. The drivers are better supported and you can feel when the car understeers. Not to mention you can adjust setting on the wheel (since GT lacks fine tuning)

Of course like I said, if you can justify the cost. I totally understand not wanting to pay $500 for a wheel setup.

Lol with three little ones that would be very hard to justify I have looked at those too though very hard to decide honestly I know know a lot of people enjoy the G29 setup and the cost was very reasonable that's what kind of leaned me in that direction as I also joined a league in pcar's and it seems like that about what 90 percent of them use

Highly recommend going with a CSL and or TGT if you can justify the cost.
The G29 is a great entry level wheel - but I found it lacking in feedback.

Try max torque 3 or 4 and sensitivity between 6 and 8.

Controller sensitivity matters as well, even though some chose not to believe that.

In vertical order I use-
5
4
3
& find it strikes a very nice balance for all situations

Congrats on the big purchase!
Your gonna love it.
Got my 1st G27 on 4/19/2014 & My initial thoughts were,

"Why did I wait so long to get this?"

I used those exact settings for a while and they feel really good.

Thanks Guys, I will give both of these setups a shot i am completely clueless when it came to this.

Hi Tex - yes if you have a wheel it’s wise to update its software for the latest bug fixes and updates. What wheel do you own?
G29 - since I have had no trouble, I must admit I’m hesitant about “asking for it”.
But will hook it up to a computer this evening. Hope it doesn’t cause difficulties.

How do I get the Update? I’m quite clueless about these things, as everyone is aware.

Does that apply when the wheel is then reconnected to a console? I heard a lot of the Logitech customization you can do only applies when used with a PC
