Maybe I'm wrong on this, but there is not an H-pattern shifter in existence where you can physically put the transmission in 3rd while still driving in 2nd and simply activate a button for a magically instant shift to 3rd. Wouldn't this be considered a 'bug' in the game? Why doesn't it fall under SNAIL OLR section 1.1.N?

Gonna miss racing my D3 buddies!.... Hopefully we will have some close racing for last place in D2 :lol:

Good luck in D2 ,we will miss you as well good Sir!
PS: Sand bagging works! See D3 drivers list! #SandBaggerGate

Right! No real transmission works like that! #ShifterGate

1. The December 2018 Season has been archived. The links to all archived data sheets can be found in Column A in the Snail Links Tab of the SNAIL Data spreadsheet

2. The SNAIL Sunday Scoring sheets have been created and is ready to go for tonight. Looks like good combos. Have fun.

Actually makes sense.

Where I do exploit this “bug” I had never thought of it like that. But how do you police it? We will never know if someone is exploiting this action.

It’s definitely a bug, and I think it absolutely falls under the SNAIL OLR. However, there’s just no way of realistically enforcing that rule in this situation. I mean we could look at replays and analyze everyone’s shifting, but that would take a ton of time and manpower and we still wouldn’t be able to say with 100% certainty that it’s happening.

You're both correct in you assessments. To clarify, the use of the shifter as it's intended to be used with the clutch is not a bug. The use of the shifter in the way it has been described here is a bug and to use it that way is exploiting the bug and is against the SNAIL OLR.

With that being said and as @soundtiger95 said, there is no reliable way to determine, without a doubt, if someone is using the shifter as intended or if they are using it in a way that exploits a bug.

This is the spot we are in right now and there isn't going to be anything that can be done about it short of an update to the game that fixes the issue or someone coming up with a way to check how the shifter is being used. I will say to those that are exploiting the bug that your fellow drivers know you are doing it and it probably doesn't reflect well upon your character and integrity.

Or do what this guy said... lol
A simple fix to the whole shifter saga....... it’s going to piss some off..... will be to make everyone run...... AUTOMATIC. :banghead:

Now I feel aweful!! I apologize to all this has effected. I had never thought about this going against the OLR and being used as a bug.

Can someone please provide a link as to where I would need to go to find out more information for scorekeeping with the league..... willing to step up and take o some responsibilities for Div 4 this season.
Someone needs to give you access to the score sheet and someone needs to explain what you need to do. Not sure who can do the former but I can help you with the latter.

I raced with strictly paddles up until about a month ago. I got my ass handed to me on combos where the shifter comes into play. So I bought a shifter. Do I think its cheap as hell? Yes I do. But until we all come to an agreement to not use it (especially by the individuals who first introduced this glitch to SNAIL) then I will continue to use it. I'm not going to get run over on Sundays like I have in the past by the guys that are using it. And trust me, I would've much rather kept my $200 instead of going out and investing in a shifter and mount just to keep up on these shifter combos.

The problem is these "gentleman's agreements" never work. Just have a look at all the brake bias discussions in this thread over the years. So we seem to be at a crossroads.

With all the controversy surrounding the shifter, perhaps I shouldn’t invest the $169.00 in the Thrustmaster T8HA. Seems a shame, as I was looking forward to the added dimension of realism to the esport.
The rig I purchased came with the shifter mount so I’m ready to go.

Or don't allow the use of an H shifter at all during snail races. It's really easy to see if someone is using it. Then put in an IR.

So what exactly is the tell tale sign in a replay that someone is using a shifter? I've read that an "N" shows up in the gear indicator for a split second but I just took a look at some old replays where I know a shifter was being used and it's not there. It would have to be something visible that shows with 100% certainty that, not only is the individual using a shifter, but they are using it in a way that exploits the bug. It can not just be someone looking at a drivers race and deciding that they are using a shifter and exploiting the glitch.

@SAMHAIN85 I think I raced for 2 or 3 Sundays using brake bias before I found out that it was not allowed. My fault.

Besides BB...is there anything a new snail would need to know up front that would prevent them from "accidentally cheating"? Changing BB is a good example.

A new SNAIL could read our rules. I've taken this directly out of section 3.1 of the SNAIL OLR Policies and Guidelines:

3.1

Tuning Prohibited in SNAIL means that you are not allowed to do anything to the car that changes it's performance in any way, shape, or form.

Below is a list of what you are allowed, or required, to do:

1. Change tires (may be required depending on the car)
2. Change wheels. Different sizes are acceptable.
3. Change the appearance of the car using the livery editor.

You may not adjust any other setting or replace / upgrade any other part of the car. If what you are thinking about doing to you car is not in the above list, don't do it. Only the 3 items listed above are allowed under SNAIL rules.

New snail here... I use a shifter with my g29, so why is using a shifter during races prohibited? Just thought I’d ask since I came across this post. And what’s this glitch you mentioned?

Use of a shifter is not prohibited. Use of the shifter in a way other than it is intended is considered to be exploiting a glitch or bug and is against SNAIL rules. That's the short answer. For the full discussion, read through the last few pages of the thread.

Thanks for the reply. I actually went to delete that other reply because I was able to scroll up and read the rest of the thread. Still a noob on this website. I’ll learn my way around here in a couple days lol

Guess I should be more clear.

Most settings are locked due to how you pick the car, tires, etc.. so these can't be changed. I could never put on racing hard tires when street softs are supposed to be used and this is set pre race by the host.

Brake bias on the other hand can be changed at anytime without anyone knowing. This is what I'm referring to.

So I guess what I'm asking, and I know this is expressly written in the OLR, but are there any other things like this that a new snail or old for that matter could be reminded of? There aren't any I can think of.

D2 duties are fulfilled for this evening.

Please don’t allow #shiftgate to persuade you not to get a shifter. You would be missing out on the wonderful experience of being able to slam through the gears of all the great cars available. I couldn’t imagine a scenario where SNAIL would not allow us to use a shifter. It would be throwing the baby out with the bath water!
:banghead:

Well, I'm sure @SAMHAIN85 could tell you exactly which drivers were using a shifter when he wasn't. Look, the advantage of the shifter is in the acceleration due to the fact that there's less of a delay when shifting gears. That's super obvious during a start but also when accelerating out of a turn.
However, I'm not sure what to do when (hypothetically) someone puts in an IR against someone for using a shifter and the other person says: I'm not using one!

As I said, I don't have a shifter, but I'm 100% behind being able to use the shifters. I'm planning to get one sooner or later, but I kinda hope that glitch is something that can be patched out of the game, and get it back to the real reason people use shifters, wheels, rigs.....the Realism.
