I found SNAIL by Googling GT Sport Racing Leagues which took me to GTPlanet. What we could really use in my opinion is a dedicated site! Have snailracing.org point to a nice site. Like these guys have: https://gtsrl.tv
We could have a sign up sheet, the current combos, scores and anything else we can think of.
Took a look at the GTSRL link - that is quite the Info Site. Almost 300 active members - haven’t heard of them before now. Only started up 18 months ago. Guess a lot of folks are getting tired of Public rooms and the Dailies.

Yeah it's nice. They promote like crazy on the Gran Turismo subreddit (https://www.reddit.com/r/granturismo/) which we could do as well. But a site like that makes it look really inviting to join.

SNAIL at one point did have an active website outside of GTP which is still online

The problem with websites is it needs constant attention and updating. The fact that we have our own url (snailracing.org) that directly links to this thread is good enough imo. And all of us in a sense are webmasters here to make SNAIL run and keep it updated week in and week out, whereas a dedicated website would only allow access for a select few to keep updated.

SNAIL is also on twitter

I've pitched the idea in the past about creating a SNAIL facebook group, but I dont know how much exposure we'd really get on there.

Facebook isn't as popular as it once was. It seems like Discord and Reddit are the more happenin' places to promote and organize racing leagues. Discord has the voice chat thing going for it so you aren't limited to 8 like the PS$ Party Chat.

I found out about snail way before I joined I have a coworker who use to run back when snail had 8 divisions and him and I would talk video games to kill time and the more we talked the more I thought about making the jump from FPS to sim racing bc iv always been a huge racing fan. Once I finally got a rig I asked him more about snail and decided to join and honestly one of the best decisions iv made by doing so. Something iv noticed with league racing is reputation and word of mouth that's the biggest form of advertisement if you have a good league mixed with good people and good racing the sky is the limit and the possibilities are endless.

Heres the updated sheet. Still not sure what we watched yesterday...it looked more like a clunker Thursday night game. Congrats @nmcp1 your 70 $hells are on the way

That's really impressive, to say the least! I can't imagine how much time would have to be put in, to keep a site like that properly maintained.....Can we delete that link before we start to lose people, instead of recruiting them, Lol.

Since PD has taken it upon themselves to update the driving physics in the game, every active or incoming driver has been included in a conversation requesting that you run and submit a time trial. Please read the instructions in the conversation and complete this as soon as possible.

Thank you.

Another reminder to run your time trial. There are still 21 drivers on the active list that have not submitted an updated time trial.

You were all included in a conversation on Jan. 17 that contained instructions and a deadline to resubmit your time trial. If you don't have a new time trial in by the time I start working on P&R for the Feb. season, you will be removed from the active drivers list and will have to complete the entire registration process over again. Save yourself the time and effort associated with that and take the time to run and submit the time trial.

That's the thing though, I don't think it's that much work. Setting it up maybe a little bit, but once that's done it's content management.
I think that if I had found that league and SNAIL at the same time I'm not sure I would have signed up to SNAIL. This crazy long thread and all the posts everywhere that you need to go to be aware of everything, it's just not that inviting and feels outdated. It doesn't get across how well this league is run.

Look, I'm not trying to rub anyone the wrong way. But we were discussing what we can do to attract more drivers to our league. I think this should be part of that discussion.

I'm not going to lie, if I found both sites at the same time, I likely wouldn't be typing this right now! I mean just one look at that site makes me believe at least 75% would say the same, if they were being totally honest.
You're 100% right that this does need to be part of the conversation. Maybe we need to look at something similar, but better......

Having been a part of a league that operated it's own web site, it is a lot of work to update and maintain and we only had a pretty bare bones version. We experimented with scorekeeping and standings add on parts that looked really cool but they just made for more work. There may be some better tools out there now as opposed to what was available 10 years ago but it was not, by any means, plug and play at that time.

I hear you. And just to be clear, I don't just want to complain, I'm also willing to put in time to help out in any way I can. Maybe we can see if there's anyone in our midst that has experience doing things. I make iOS applications for a living so web isn't my specialty but I think I could at least look at what options are available.

Side note: I have a great idea for making a service that will allow anyone to run and manage a league. But for that I would need help from back end and front end specialists, I'll tackle the mobile application. Anyone?

That is a nice site! Can we talk to whoever made that and ask what they used, how much work it is etc? I might join that league as well, looks fun!

We are not going to be talking to the individual that built that site. It's a pretty basic template though. I have the understanding to build a basic site from a kit but I'm not a very talented (read not talented at all) graphic designer. Basically, I can make it work but it won't be pretty. The work comes in making it pretty and keeping it updated and that is pretty much a never ending process. Now, if all that is needed is a site that looks pretty and has buttons that link to our existing infrastructure, then that's pretty easy. It's when you start to want to present the information we already have in different formats that it gets time consuming.

Why not just make the website 'timeless'? Meaning the information is relevant whether viewed today, next week, three months or even five years from now. Basic info such as who we are, what we do and if interested visit gtplanet/snail and read the first post. This way anyone who types in snailracing.org will land on an actual website rather than being redirected to a forum.

I can start to look at doing something when I have some free time (disclaimer - infant) and I think some of the sites can integrate Google sheets so there isn’t double work.

Someone else with more time/expertise can feel free to work this though.

While I agree that SNAIL doesn’t have direct web site presence (other than a forum within GTPlanet), it works. I do know of one of my online friends that didn’t end up joining because he found an old page when the crow flies. He’d spent the time combing through the pages of OLR and got indignant when he felt like he was getting the run around. What I mean to say is that old information, old links or outdated information anywhere, should be minimized. We have a fair share of loose ends and rabbit holes.

Allow me to digress and take your mind off things momentarily. My new direct drive arrived today. Makes the ones currently on the market for girly men. Looking for support braces for my rig and a steering wheel without spokes in case the 850 Nm of torque gets away from me.

So basically just turn snailracing.org from a redirect page to a landing page with some photos, graphics, and a short introductory paragraph. Links to selected google docs could be included in buttons for quick access (view only) along with a link to the first post here for potential new members. That's not too difficult to build or maintain as long as we have individuals with the talent for each aspect of construction.
