I have some questions about Sunday's Div 3 racing, mostly about my behaviour. I've looked for the steward of the race. Who would be best to direct my questions to?

@Raw10_2u is the current D3 steward but he has been inactive of late. If you have questions, you can direct them to me in a private conversation as I am the acting Chief Steward.

Since Nova didn't pick this car for prize A, maybe prize B or C will be tempted!
I wonder if I can get that hood ornament from JEGS.

I have an opportunity to buy a g29 for 150. Seller claims its 5 months old and he's selling because he purchased a csl elite. Does that sound like a good deal? I've folks saying that the g29 is having issues and I should get a t300. If the g29 is having issues, what issues is it having?

I've had my g29 for a few months now, and it works fine. I guess the pedals can become janky after a while due to dirty getting into the potentiometer, but that's all I've heard.

I've had one for 4 years now, a G27 before that a a DfPro before that. All have been good to me. As mentioned, potentiometers get hair and stuff in the gear from time to time that creates an unwanted minor input, enough to be noticed, that you may have to clean out...other wise it's been great. Last time I was in my pedals to clean, I jumped one gear 1 tooth on each pedal when putting back together, and haven't had the problem since. If it comes with the original box, its a pretty good deal, and if it comes with the shifter, it a great deal.

Before my current gear, I had good fortune with the G29 and G27 before that. Even with Fanatec v3i, after 1 year, I’ve had the throttle taken apart twice trying to eliminate an annoying squeak.

Do you see that shiny spot in the hole? That’s where the aluminum galded on the steel pin. I honed it and gave it a coat of grease. If it persists I might have to install an actual roller bearing.

I fixed the squeak on my V3i accelerator pedal back in the spring.

I could not find where it was emanating from & was spraying lubricants on the wrong parts. In the end it was deep inside the bottom base area of the back side of the pedal. There is a small hinge down low on the back side and 1 spray with PB blaster made is stop squeaking ever since. WD40 would work.

Today I need to take apart my brake pedal. The performance brake kit messed up something after installation in August. Been driving with a fat dead zone ever since. I emailed Fanatec RMA and was told to make sure they’re ‘broken’. So it’s all getting pulled apart again later.

@Fudman420 G29’s brand new go for $200 so take that one if you want, but you are within your rights to negotiate lower. I know 3 people who had wheel position sensor problems with the G29. Probably 50 different people who had issues with the Logitech pedals getting sticky, including myself with my g27 pedals (most annoying issue possible)

My advice as someone who in 5 years has not owned a wheel other than a Logitech (until yesterday) is skip the Logitech stuff and go for a Thrustmaster T300 bundle or even just the servo motor by itself (200$) and then customize the wheel rim & pedals you want to select.

Making all these selections takes time, lots of book marks and careful research. The G29 isn’t bad at all, you would like it, but it’s definitely the entry level wheel of the market & has not changed in basic design in over 15 years! You have skills that deserve a bigger 1st step into the money pit/sim hardware rabbit hole.

Literally every set of wheel & pedals on the market have their own issues to deal with. ALL OF THEM, including the most expensive gear. Whether you pick a Logitech, Thrustmaster or Fanatec do as much reading as you can from places like GT Planet, Reddit, inside sim racing and YouTube comments; then pull the trigger @Fudman420

Mounting all this crap the right way is a whole other ball game too... :boggled::banghead:

Im on my 3rd g29 in less than a year. The first one just randomly died when I was racing and became unresponsive. The second one was keeping the force feedback locked on center when plugged into a pc. I’ve also found them to be overall clunky and sort of rough in operation. Good news is that Logitech customer service has been excellent and gladly replaced my wheel TWICE. Bad news is that they’ve been riddled with issues. Since your buying private sale you probably won’t get the warranty service if needed.

Jeez Louise... that’s what I’m talking about @Fudman420 . At the same time I know people who haven’t had a major G29 issue yet. It’s a crap shoot. A fast driver will be fast with whatever gear he’s on.

They don’t make em’ like they used to. My G27 wheel base is about to retire after 5-6 years of competition in Snail, & thousands of hours doing other things online without any issues. Those pedals though... inevitable sticky bs.

Glad I went with a drivehub adapter when I had the choice to use my G27 some more or upgrade a couple years ago.

I have a g29 since i started at snail and works fine
I just had to adjust throttle pedal once. dissassembling everithing it was not throttling up to a continuos 100 percent but then all was good
In Mexico you can but one new for those 150 usd, not sure how it is cheaper to buy it Obed here.

I went from the G27 with that stupid Cronus max thingy and went to the T300 RS GT and upgraded the pedals.
I’ve only tried the G29 a couple of times and too be honest I liked the wheel but not anywhere near as much as I like my T300.
If you can do the extra I would buy new, regardless of brand...just for the warranty.

As a near broke old guy, I would suggest that you save just a little more and buy new, whatever wheel you decide on. I race GT Sport because I can't afford a real race car . I have bills out the wazoo so I know how much the lure of a "cheap" find can be. I had a Driving Pro GT that after three iterations of the game (GT5, GT6 and GT Sport) finally gave up the ghost. I put away enough money to get a new G29 in September of last year and so far I haven't had any issues with it. I made sure I registered the wheel for warranty reasons and a little peace of mind. Because I'm an "old guy", I'lll leave you with this old saying: "Act in haste, repent in leisure"... Just MHO.:boggled::boggled::boggled::boggled:

Thanks for all the help. I think I'll wait and do the t300 bundle when I can save enough. The one constant from everyone is I need a warranty. I also have to purchase the stand and build/purchase the seat. I've found a build I'd like to use that is out of wood (for the seat base) and I plan on ripping a seat out of a junk car.

You'll be happy with that choice.
