I would have gladly paid more money for a game made for adults. The tedium of progression is going to make me put this down. All I want to do is drive cars on tracks. There was no need to be punitive about it.
Lobby racing would be limited to lowest common denominator tracks and car. There are about half a dozen available after you progress to lobby access level. But it seems right now we are going to have to progress thru every license test and menu book to unlock all the tracks. I don’t expect this to be trivial as the length and number of challenges seem to be increasing.

I have completed all the license tests but wasted time shooting for gold. You just need to get bronze to pass and eventually unlock lobbies. I have also started menu book 21. I have unlocked 21 tracks so far. I have spent 16hours in game.

I meant tedious as in it's annoying to have to unlock all this stuff. For the nth time for many folks. I just want to hop on, pick a car and track I want and drive.

I'm not sure how much time I have in game at this point. A lot of it has been idling in menus, even so, of my actual play time much of it has been spent navigating between the cafe and the tasks. The 2-3 lap races mean I spend more time in menus and loading than I do on track in any given hour. I haven't spent much time on the tasks themselves, and I don't redo any licenses or anything. They've all been easy enough to gold on the outset, though there were a few I crashed more than once before I was able to actually get the car across the finish line, and one where I crossed the finish line backwards. Still, it feels as though I've had my controller in my hands in the menus more than my hands have been on the wheel, when all I want to do is unlock the tracks.

I would say early on we could agree to run cars/tracks that are known gifts through fulfilling menu books and challenges.

That way we know everyone has them. We could set a certain menu book number to complete through by the first race date. Then maybe a month of that and we could open it up to another attainable goal etc.

With reintroduction of used cars, there is no guarantee all will have attained a certain used vehicle so those might have to be excluded for awhile. Since the car lot rotates vehicles some may be much harder to get than others.

@IceWarden I’m keeping all of my prize cars for the time being and trying as much as possible to not put irreversible mods on them as cash is hard to come by and there is no way on earth that I’m forking real dollars for in game currency for a game that I paid 100 canadian bucks. Very scummy from Sony to reveal MT prizes AFTER the embargo reviews.

And yeah the used car dealer screws things up for our car roster for the league, it would be good to be able to purchase all of the cars new and the used dealer could be only if you want to save credits on a « new » car.

Yeah same. I am saving everything :) And modding nothing except for maybe tires here and there. I will say when you have but a more powerful car like a Mustang or something, it comes with sport tires which is nice.

@Lessen yes we are on for brief pause while we flesh out the game, settings, new driver placement trials etc and so on. I think there will be league lobby nights popping up asap as well.

Maybe I’m misremembering the old GT games, but isn’t this what we all wanted? Didn’t we want GT to get back to its roots?

I’m confused about all the disappointment, I thought the whole point of a numbered GT game was to grind through license tests, campaign, unlock cars through those modes, and pray that the vehicle you want appears in the used-car dealership. I’m loving it and to me, that’s the appeal of GT over other sim racers.

For years I’ve seen people complain about the lack of these exact things in GTS. Also, the whole point of the used-car dealership isn’t just that cars might be cheaper. It’s a place where you can buy vehicles that are no longer sold by the dealership itself, and due to the rarity of some of them, they may actually be more expensive then if you were to buy them from the dealership new.

Is Sunday Spec on pause?!?
Yes, March on pause.

Guys, don’t buy cars in GT7 (just yet). Completing the easy peezy menu items will get you 3 cars at a time!
Also, put racing intermediate on your cars for the menu races. Put enough engine components to increase your PP level to the max. Yes, this is expensive (but in the long run). You can use the same car for many of these menu booklet completions. IM tires will assist you in the random weather and getting through these menu books efficiently.
Menu 23 complete and I have 51 cars, (buying only 1 used car to get started, and the 911GT3RS ‘16)

Menu obtained cars:
3 alphas
3 M3s
3 Camaros
3 Mustangs
3 Hondas
2 minis
3 mitsubishi
4 Nissan
2 subis
4 VWs
and a few others
.

I craved for the classic GT experience, not the « we don’t give you credits when you sell prize cars and even cars that you bought yourself » experience. The in game economy is totally broken thanks to Sony’s greed.

Regarding the physics, go try a 911 GT3 on Spa on sports softs without assists, the same we ran on GT Sport multiple times. Very fun combo to drive back in Sport. In GT7 I can’t make it past eau rouge without spinning out. GT Sport felt good and rewarding, I loved driving RWD above all else but now I do it only to advance the menu books on sports softs and above.

Oh and the Blue Moon oval is now one of the hardest track to drive on, I have to turn every assist on in order to complete a lap.

Lobbies are a step backwards weirdly so.

Engines swaps are hidden in the stupid prize roulettes that magically give me the smallest prize 75% of the time too.

So yeah pretty disappointed with that.

BUT with updates I think that what I mentioned can be fixed with time. Don’t get me wrong, the game looks beautiful, the car models are so well detailed, the dynamic time and weather is breathtaking. Loading times on PS5 atleast are so quick and I love the new classic tracks, especially Deep Forest. Sounds are also A1 IMO. So not just negative for my part.

EDIT: managed to run 5 laps of the same combo. Sport: 2’34 GT7: 2’39 and the car feels on the edge of spinning all the time.

Check my best record time under the trophies in the middle, and my placement on the ranking board. Bugged? Idk, something’s fishy here.

I personally did not crave the classic experience. After having done all this stuff 30+ times before(each GT, and then from GT5 onwards I've had multiple PSNs so I had to do the unlocks several times for GT5, 6, and Sport) I'm pretty much over it hahah. I haven't done more than minimum required in offline modes since prior to the online era(GT4 and previous) because my main use of GT is seat time in the offseason. I don't much care to 'play' the game per se. I get that a lot of people do, and I would support things being optional with additional rewards for those so inclined, but I don't really play games for the sense of personal accomplishment. I don't get any reward out of gaming achievements, I'm just here to drive.

I'm in favour of the physics. There are some rough edges that need to be sanded down, and I need to unlock more tracks before I can do my aforementioned tyre testing, but overall I feel it was a step in the right direction. It may have been a bigger step than anticipated, and I think they do need to do some fine honing, but overall I see an improvement. My only real complaint on the driving front, which is directly related to others' stories of being passed by the rear bumper; is that I wish they didn't fool with the brake input mapping on the logitech stuff. I think the rapid gain on the brake pedal is making it really difficult to meter yaw at turn in when you come off the brakes.

As a footnote, I'm suspicious of the brake pedal input on the game software side also because I've noticed the brake force at different amounts with the same pedal input in different cars. I need more testing to make a firm call, but all the cars I drove up until last night were showing 55-60% brake input with my pedal on the first stopper. Last night I was driving a particular car and remarked to a friend how I was impressed with its braking. And then I looked and checked and noticed brake force was about 40% on the same stopper. :odd:

Edit: Upon further research, I now believe that they updated the brake input sometime in the last day or so. Not back to GTSport, but better than it was. Looking forward to playin round with it.

I'm on Book 26, probably won't get a chance to finish til next weekend. I tried using a controller, but man, that haptic feedback really threw me for a loop. On another note, anyone know how to adjust the steering radius for a t150? I did it for gtsport, but since forgotten. It seems to have reset with GT7

Overall I’m enjoying the “game.” It grates my nerves that I’m having my hand held the entire time (let’s go back to the cafe, let’s take a picture, ok now race for a few min, let’s force feed you car trivia) on a fixed path. This is no open world “game” until after you get thru the fixed 39 step introduction. Of course, I don’t have to do that. I could dawdle and explore for a few weeks or months but,

it annoys me to no end that I can’t just go do beautiful laps at Le Mans with changing weather/tod until after step 38;

and I am mostly hoping that at some point in the future I will be able to “race” with actual snails again. It never occurred to me that would not be an option out of the box.

This too shall pass.

It was three years ago this month that I started sim racing for the first time. I think I'm still new enough that I don't mind some of the grind to gain credits and cars. Besides I've never seen the 'old' favourite tracks. I think PD is in a bind trying to appeal to returning and new drivers, let alone wiley veterans with multiple accounts, LOL @Marcus Garvey. I remember 3 years ago having zero knowledge of tracks, cars, cars on tracks and having a dickens of a time beating the AI cars or getting gold in the challenges. It all provides beginners with needed experience and for me a nice introduction to the game.

All the extraneous stuff is both tiresome and interesting. I think I would like to be able to skip the stories, but I also enjoy reading about the cars. And yes, a short cut, back to the World Map would be handy. All in all I'm finding the experience very enjoyable. And wow! GT7 is the true test of SQUEEZE the throttle on exit. And lets just forget about hammering the gas at the apex of medium speed corners, or flat out through every high speed one. And I haven't even gotten to Spa yet!! :):cheers::)
