I thought the test lobby racing went quite well tonight given current system. Racers please provide feedback.

I will host Thursday night lobbies this week. Dynamic weather in play again up to light rain and darkness at one or more tracks. Avoiding rear wheel drive cars still.

Open to track/car combos. Try to keep cars to the older ones in your garage; the ones most other people may have won early in the menu.

Daytona Road course will be on the menu. Pick a good car.

A possible option for dealing with what appears to be the new physics for RWD cars might be to allow the use of traction control. It seems to work more like it should rather than just cutting a ton of power. Most modern cars have it and some don't even allow it to be turned off.

I was doing some license tests tonight and used it on the Viper at Laguna Seca. I could still get the back to come loose but it was so much more catchable than without it. It seemed to give a more gradual traction loss as opposed to the instant slide and forget about recovering it that is seen with some of the RWD cars.

I'd say it was a decent night of testing. Its just hard to get motivated to even race when cars look like they're in a stop motion animation. Very 1st race of the night:

For some reason the 2nd combo @ Autopolis seemed to not cause as much jittering.

I definitely was digging the change of weather and having to glance at the doppler radar hud.

I was hoping the graphic thats displayed on screen when you pass someone would only be for single player campaign. Looks like its carried over into online as well. I dont need a graphic pop up telling me what car I just passed every time it happens.

Did anyone have a brake balance controller purchased for their car? Were you able to adjust it? Maybe with tuning prohibited we now can finally race where no one will have the ability to change their brake balance? Gotta test that

I drive with ASM (Stability control) and TCS 1 on RWD cars like Gr.3 in Race C all week. I think slow cars are driveable like the Miatas on confort tires but even then they start to drift on corner exit with all of their 120 hp unleashed. Any Porsche is a big no, a mess even with ASM et TCS 1. Hell, even the WRX STI that we used last night can easily powerslide on sports hards like its RWD. Physics are weird. I'm all in for TCS on RWD if we start using them with the current physics.

On a more positive note, thanks to @SAMHAIN85 and @Bologna_Duc for hosting last night. First race at Alsace, every car was lagging but on the second race at Autopolis it was OK. I hope they fix the lobbies soon because in their current state we cannot yet go back to our usual league racing. But man, once everything will be fixed, this game will be incredible. I always come back to this, I love the new dynamic time and weather, in our 15 minutes races we had rain and a drying track whilst racing in the dark, totally awesome experience.

@SAMHAIN85 I bought the brake bias controller for the WRX between races last night. I was able to use it with whatever the room settings were.
@JLBowler If we entertain the use of traction control, I would urge a test night dedicated to testing each of the available aids. Perhaps stability control would be beneficial over traction control? Or counter steer assist on weak? I have no idea. I only know that to get through a difficult menu/license/mission as quickly as possible, I’d turn on all assists.

I did achieve gold finally with the Gr4 Mustang! Now I need your help with the Viper at Daytona. 7500 drift points for gold. Highest is 7250 after at least 100 attempts. Send help!

Did you adjust the balance and did the setting stick? Did you try and pull up the menu during the race and if so, could you adjust it on the fly?

That's a worthwhile suggestion. My personal take on it would be to test aids to determine if they are realistic and function as they are intended to. TC and ASM exist in the real world. TC is implemented much better in GT7 than it was in past games. I don't know anything about ASM as I turned it off and have never used it in game (TC was enough to get me through the license tests with RWD cars on crap tires). Counter steer assist is another one that I haven't tried but if it's banned to use in sport mode, as it was in GTSport, there's a good chance it's not very realistic. It also produced lap times that were significantly faster than anything anyone could do without it.

It is my personal opinion that the SNAIL tire regulations that are being worked out and allowing TC will make the RWD cars controllable. Not so controllable that you just fire off into a corner and it sticks are any speed but enough control to allow someone to make a mistake that will cost them some time but maybe not spin in front of the whole field.

Yes and yes. @Bologna_Duc please confirm you had last nights room set for tuning prohibited.

I’m curious to what extent the time and weather changes may be allowed?
Prize A would be even more highly coveted if the winner had choices: time, time multiplier, # of weather changes, and type of weather.

Honestly, if correct, that's rather disappointing. They make brake balance a tuning part and then don't restrict it via the tuning prohibited option. That seems like a horrible oversight but it wouldn't be the first one.

Random weather would be a non-starter for Sunday night races. Need the same conditions across all divisions and need to be able to predict a race time. Any conditions that would require a pit stop would probably not be feasible for Sunday night racing so changes from dry to wet are out.

Time of day is open for selection in Sport already so I don't see a change in 7 and time progression has already been addressed in SNAIL in the past and was set at 1x when available.

That’s informative and answers many questions, thank you. However there is at least one thing not specifically covered, so I ask while on the topic. There are many weather conditions now (up to 11 or so). Is any one condition allowed to be chosen by prize A winner? If any kind of wet is allowed, will tire choice be open or preselected/predetermined?

At this time, I can't say what type of weather will be allowed as no discussion has taken place on that topic among the BoD.

Tire selection will not be open at any time. All drivers will be on the same tire at all times. This is spec racing after all. What that tire will be will have to be a topic of discussion as well. There were some brief discussion about allowing wet conditions in sport but the testing to determine the spec tire was never done.

@JLBowler Has a new new driver time trial been discussed and decided yet? I haven’t seen it mentioned lately. I know you’ll need all to rerun it in GT7 for benchmarking and new driver placement.

The new time trial has been discussed but given the current state of GT7, there are bigger fish to fry at this point.

Did IA golds last night. Last one took me long enough to experience a very high amount of frustration. I hate Nurb and have never memorized it. Hate it more everytime I have to drive it for any reason.

Still haven’t used any driving aids yet :)

I'm up to IA-9 for gold as well. Tried IA-10 once on Sunday, decided it was a good time to take a break. Love the Nürb, but that section is my least favorite. It'll probably take a couple hours on Sat to gold it. Right there with you without aids

I didn't realise that you didn't need all of the licenses until I had already done IA in the first day. I one shot every test, except for two or three due to crashing. The 350z at Tsukuba I crashed once, and then went through the finish backwards on my second attempt. I don't bother redoing any of the tests ever, I hate that patronising 💩. I remember putting TC on 1 for a second attempt the Vette at Willow after I spun the first time. I was just rushing through everything to unlock all of the courses.

I would ask the BoD please fully investigate the weather capabiliites. Completely understand no random weather. But over a 6-10 lap race, depending on track, you can specify a sequence of weather conditions from start to finish. Sometimes 3-4 conditions can be chosen and then also the speed-time multiplier.

I believe one thing that needs to be tested is if the weather progression is the same each time in a race for a given set of choices. IF it does then that would seem to open up dynamic weather selection, but obviously not if the weather changes randomly from race to race with the same choices. I will begin paying more attention to this.

I am a huge advocate of enabling this capability. It is game changing. Yes, I just said that.

ps, from a recruitment perspective I would suggest we have to enable one of the key new developments in the game.

I believe so.
“BoP/Tuning Forbidden” = On
“Tuning” = Prohibited

To confirm I created another lobby today. Ive also purchased the brake balance kit for the sti. Lobby entry no problem, tuning set to prohibited.

I can buy better transmission, power restrictor 99% to get the PP back down to regulation. Lobby will not let me enter and will auto change car settings to remove the transmission and reset power to 100%.

I can buy weight reduction kit, add ballast back on to meet regulation. Lobby will not let me enter and will auto change settings to remove ballast and reset weight.

Ergo, brake balance is not tuning according to PD. Still.

Sunday night is spec sprint racing. No pit stops and no drivers on different tires at any time during the race. If weather can be set to go from cloudy to sunny and can be replicated from room to room, that's something worth looking at.

As far as time progression goes, I personally don't see an issue with implementing it as long as there is daylight. Shadows changing throughout the race is one thing, trying to have clean, close racing in the dark is something else. Low visibility is not conducive to close, clean racing.

Low visibility and lack of grip not being conducive to close, clean racing is the reason we don't do dirt tracks on Sunday night and it's a reason there probably won't be water on the track or complete darkness for a Sunday night sprint race.

I don’t mind dynamic weather as long as no rain (can’t change tires) and no night racing.

Other than that the weather change thing doesn’t really make me more or less interested in the game.

Ninja by bowler… but I did it with fewer words :)

Respectfully, this sounds like policy before data. I would really like us to be more blue sky about what we might or might not do with this new iteration of the game. Maybe we will land right back where we are again. Maybe not.

I'm not debating night. Some of us don't even like to drive at night in real life. The dark races at Autopolis were too dark by far for my taste. One-off events, sure. Sunday nights, no thank you.

But the rain was not as problematic as some people might think. @Xradkins (Dash) pointed out during an early lobby that the Sports tires are ok on rain. And at Autopolis when the R03 Light Rain came there was a slight change in traction but nothing that dramatically diminished the competitive racing, imho.

I would suggest that conditions R07/R08 with Torrential Rain be ruled out. R04-06 with Rain are borderline and probably a step too far for any first step that might have water on track.

R01 Light Drizzle, R02, and R03 Light Rain seem like candidates worth piloting with some different combos. Maybe those conditions get limited to certain tires. Maybe it doesn't work out at all.

But I'd like to see us race them first. Please.

Are we absolutely certain that everyone experiences the exact same conditions at the same time, for the same amount of time, no matter where they are on track?

I think if rain gets thrown into the dynamic weather luck would become a huge part of those races

Edit: Assuming there would be pit stops with tire changes, idk what the ruling would be on that

I can see the merits of rain to a certain point. That point is that it is the same throughout the race or does not require a tire change and it isn't so bad that you can't see where you're going. Sports tires are fine for the rain and anything on race tires could be changed to spec intermediate or wet for races with any wet conditions. If we were to adopt dirt tracks, dirt tires would be spec.

This would all be predicated on proving that all rooms would act the same with changing weather and it would need to be pre-set and set correctly which is just more work for the host of the lobby.

I repeat. Pit stops and drivers on different tires will not happen for Sunday night racing. This is a spec sprint racing series on Sunday nights. With that being said, the features are really cool and should be utilized in the proper setting. Reviving the SNAIL endurance series would be ideal for random weather and accelerated time progression.

Restarting the SNAIL endurance series would be great considering the new features. We could use them here at their fullest.

For our traditional sunday night races, I’m with @JLBowler , clear conditions only so that skill is the only variable. Rain will impact the close clean racing we are used to. Being a sprint race without pitstops, you want to pass at every opportunity, especially during the reverse races.

Maybe accelerated time from sunrise to noon or from noon to evening, without going pitch black like we did at Autopolis (I didn’t mind it personally). Tracks with great lighting could be run at night like Daytona Road and Tokyo Expressway bur thats it. Dynamic time adds a bit of realism in the sense that you cannot use shadows as braking points. GT7 made me finally stop doing that.

I'm not sure if this will work out to be an advantage or disadvantage but those of us still playing on ps4 regular the rain is disabled but the effects stay. On more than one occasion I was in the sand only to realizethe road started to get wet. When it's heavy rain I can hear it but nothing is seen besides wet road and the road traction bar.

Phantom rain!!

In cockpit view there are drops on the windshield and the wipers come on.
