Thanks to all the stewards who reviewed this week's incidents! However, the penalties did in fact shuffle the final standings for the week. I've updated the results post accordingly.

I was wondering what kind of numbers we have been running in each division. I know it is simple to count anyone who shows up for any race as a full participant, but that does not seem authentic to me. Last week, we started with 9, 2 guys left after the first combo, 2 guys did not have Motegi, so we were 9 for the 350Z, 5 for the Corvette at Motegi, and 7 for the MacLearen at Daytona.

I looked at the last four months, and the numbers were more stable than I had expected. Only a few numbers were higher than other divisions, and they were probably easily explained. I used 3 categories of racers. I counted participation as running more than 2/3 of the races. So the main group was racers who participated 3-4 times in a month.

Over four months...
Division - Drivers
D1 - 29
D2 - 35
D3 - 29
D4 - 34
D5 - 27

Dividing that core group figure by the four months and the divisions were fairly close for the core group of regulars. From a low of 6.75 ‘regulars’ per night in D5, both D1 and D3 had 7.25, and D2 and D4 were about 8.5 core drivers.

The next group was guys who drove 2 nights in a month. They contribute to grid size, but not as consistently. Sometimes it was work, life issues, whatever. During that particular month, this group was 50/50 for racing or not. Over the four months:

Division - Drivers
D1 - 12 drivers
D2 - 9
D3 - 11
D4 - 9
D5 - 8

Over the four months, or 16 races, each division picked up between 0.5 to 0.75 drivers per race who were semi-regular.

The final group was what I termed Guest Drivers. 1 full night of racing, or maybe 2 races one night, a couple races a few weeks later. This is the other group we wanted to increase the frequency of participation. D5 has the largest group of Guests, and to me, that makes sense, as they are sampling SNAIL, first time driving in a league, etc.

Division - Drivers
D1 - 16 drivers
D2 - 11
D3 - 13
D4 - 7
D5 - 25

Over 16 nights, most divisions added between 0.43 spots in D4, 0.6 to 0.75 in D1 / D2 / D3, and 1.5 for D5.

All in all, we have had some grids be larger (two 50-50 guys, a guest or two show up that night), some are smaller (no extras and maybe one of the regulars or even two miss their race of the month). Grids ended up, when totaling the three groups, at 9-10 per grid.

Based on the total number of regular drivers (38-39), the 50-50 (7-10 usually), I still think considering going to 4 Divisions until we need to re-expand, is viable. That would lead towards 9-10 core drivers, usually 2 50-50 guys, and room for 4-5 guests in each room.

That was how I was thinking of it, at least.

I'd like to formally announce the results of the February 2013 season. A complete summary of the points standings can be found here, but here are the divisional champions:

Congratulations to all five of you! Each of you wins your own copy of GTPEDIA!! :gtpflag:

Wow! Great work guys! Congratulations Meg..er Apmaddock. A well deserved championship win.

Man, I haven't seen that movie but I'm guessing I'm going to have to.

Thanks, guys. I had a good first couple of weeks last month that were enough to carry me through a pretty average third score. Here's to hoping I can put together a few more good nights!

The prize is just icing on the cake. I'm looking forward to that, too!

Announcing the March Lineup for S.N.A.I.L. SPEC Racing

The Drivers List has been updated with Promotions and Relegation's for the month of March.

I'd like to point out there's no clear cut formula for getting promoted or relegated. We take into account a number of factors to determine candidates for promotion and relegation. Once we've identified the drivers, we analyze the data at our disposal and make sure the people being moved fit into the Division they're being moved to. Then we pull the trigger :dopey:

Some of the criteria for being ELIGIBLE to be promoted or relegated are:

1. Points for the month
2. How many drivers are in each division.
3. Race pace
4. Individual Lap Times
5. How you compare to other racers in your division and the division you're a candidate for.
6. Number of times you've raced that month.
7. How cleanly you've raced this past month.

Why do we do this?

1. To get you involved in races you will be racing in, not just driving.
2. To incent you to improve your driving and racecraft.
3. To give you something to strive for.
4. To make it possible for you to have fun playing GT5.

We want you to be in good, close, clean racing 👍

If you have any questions or concerns about promotion or relegation, feel free to pm me. I'd be more than happy to talk to you about it.

N.B. If you were promoted or relegated and don't have access to the lounge you're assigned to for the March season, please send a PSN Friend Request to the appropriate SNAIL_DivisionX account. If for some reason your Friend Request is not accepted, let us know!

Cheers and good racing all!

Great job App. You are fast. Give em hell in D2:tup:

Does anyone in D2 have a problem with starting at the usual time? I don't.

D2 and D3 will be starting at 10:00 P.M. Eastern time. In the Drivers List I put the start times beside the Division header.

My sincere apologies, I guess zer0 and I forgot to coordinate announcing that :(

Edit: D1, D4 and D5 will be starting at 9:30 P.M. Eastern.

Start times are listed on the Drivers List post that Zer0 put up.

Lists D3 and D2 as 10 pm, as I recall...

Aah. My mistake. 👍

Yeah, sorry for not clarifying the start times for each division. I've been sick for a week and yet we had to go to IKEA after dinner to get a new play kitchen set for my daughter. I just got done putting it together, but I have to admit that the "thank you" hug she gave me sure did wipe a lot of the stress from these past couple of days away. :)
