Rules sometimes need to be changed...and I'm not big on Status Quo.

I agree but not on this one. I lean towards rules that allow more racing not less. If you're saying that you just want more penalties for bad judgment in turn one I can live with that but no passing in turn one is one I will not live with.

Am i still winner of prize B? Please update winner's list and i will make my selection to replace car or track for the Spa combo. Thanks

I have made my opinion known. I will no longer beat the horse trying to sell my opinion to anyone else. Whatever decision is made, I will deal with it accordingly when that time comes. That action could be anything from wholeheartedly embracing the decision to leaving SNAIL. It all depends on which direction the leadership wants to take the league.

I'm Backing you up. I wonder what F1 drivers would say if this sort of regulation was implemented in that series. The first corner is just as much a place to race in as the rest of the track. Sometimes it will even be unavoidable to make up positions due to how the different lines of cars stack up on one another. Yes incidents do happen quite often at the start but that is because all the cars are together in a pack at that point, not because people drive more recklessly . Even during a race, once the cars have spread out except for a few who are still in a pack, those packed drivers are more likely to be involved in incidents. With all due respect joe, I have to oppose your suggestion.

Thanks for the encouragement. No plans to abandon the race. I finish what I start. If it rains the entire race I don't think "awesome" will be how I describe it :boggled::ouch:. Having my game progress at 100% will be enough for me at that point.

I am at over 6 hours now and it just started to rain. The surface is at 5% wet right now and I just went into the pits. I think I might change to the inters and take it easy for the first few laps of the stint until it gets very wet. I will change to full wets when it is appropriate. My lead is huge! Almost 4 laps I think. I also slowed down my times to 7:50 to try and make my stints a lap longer. Ran out of fuel at the Dottinger Hohe on the last lap of this stint. I should start doing 7:55's which is going to happen anyway due to the rain.

Again, very selective reading.

ATTENTION S.N.A.I.L.'s!!!!

I've decided to go ahead and begin a little project Rally and I have had for a while. We proudly present to you

S.N.A.I.L. Hot Versions Touge Special

What is this "Hot Versions Touge Special" you speak of?
Its simple my friends. Hot Versions is a popular DVD in Japan and most of America that shows, you've guessed it, touge racing! As for touge racing, its a type of race that happens on mountain roads all over the world! If you are still unclear I would recommend searching up some Hot Versions. 👍

Sounds interesting, how do I get in on this action?
Simple. Just say you want to join right here on the thread OR send me a PM on GTPlanet OR send me a PM on PSN.

RULES!!!!\
-Tuning is allowed but only up to 500PP
-Cars must be tuned to run on Sports Hard Tires or Comfort Tires
-Drivers will be asked to set ONE timed lap.*
-Races will be ran in a Chase Style, meaning the lead driver wins if the gap is increased and the follower will win if the gap is closed.
-Passing the lead driver will not be allowed unless they drive off course, spin, etc.
-All driving aids will be disable except ABS
-Have Fun!!!

Hopefully we get a good amount of drivers to have a championship of sorts. Oh, one quick thing to those interested. The car and driver that wins every battle will be crowned as our TOUGE MONSTER.

If you are interested make sure you are heard. I would like for all drivers to send me an FR on PSN so they can download a specific track I want us to run on. This will be held this Sunday night at 9:30 EST in the D3 lounge if it isnt being used at the time. In the event that it is we may have to run it in my lounge or a public lobby. 👍 So come on down to the S.N.A.I.L. Hot Versions Touge Special and you could be crowned as our first TOUGE MONSTER!

*In order to pair drivers evenly, those with the two fastest times will battle first. Then, those with the next two fastest will battle.
EXAMPLE
Driver 1 puts a time of 1:25.5
Driver 2 puts a time of 1:27.9
Driver 3 puts a time of 1:32.3
Driver 4 puts a time of 1:36.5

Battle 1 will be between Drivers 1 and 2. This prevents Driver 1 to race Driver 4, thus keeping it even.I hope...

I follow hill and bowlers thinking on this. The rules are there. If people aren't reporting it now, who's going to report with this addition in place? It's not change, because nothing changed, its just over bureaucracy. The rules or any lack of clarity is not the problem. We stress all the time the importance of racecraft. If there is a first corner issue, its going to break the rules. The people that bowler suggest it will help, it won't. They will start one race, get bumped, freak out and then the next race ride high again. And since they didn't report it before, well, it just stands to reason that they won't report it again.
If this is the biggest issue SNAIL has on its plate though, I see that as a good sign. Things are running some what smooth, cause this has honestly a pretty obvious non issue. I can say that typically d3 has good turn ones. And any issues we do experience, this addition won't fix. Lets not over litigate our league. Sundays have a tendency to be overly stressed as it is.

Since I'm so selective in my reading please lay it out in a post us selective readers can understand. I might have missed a post or two.

...
The rule wouldn't 100% ban passing in the first corner,...if you can actually make the pass before turn in, then go for it. ....
If you think you can make a clean pass on Turn 1, go for it. But it better be found to be clean by the guy you passed, as well as the stewards.

I'm pretty sure I read that passing is actually allowed...if it can be done cleanly. If one of the 4 passing situations didn't happen, there's a good chance it's a dive/push/rub. The rule would simply bring greater awareness to the need for caution and OLR, and not actually changing things a great deal.

... hold your position in turn 1 and not try to improve it unless the following situations occur: 1) The driver directly in front of you is asleep on the start. 2) The driver directly in front of you runs off course with at least 2 wheels off the track. 3) Obvious race incidents that must be avoided. 4) If you are able to fully draft past someone without incident or disruption to the other driver(s) with a reasonable distance before approaching the first turn.

You can pass, but you better be more concerned with ensuring there is a clean start to the race. Penalties will be tripled. Issues where overlap is in question will rule in the ahead drivers favour.

I don't make policy or the rules. I am simply trying to provoke some thinking about change. Zer0 will let us know what he thinks at some point once he has a chance to wrap his head around this suggestion.

I do feel strongly about this but make no threat of leaving. That would just be silly.

And while we're at it, let's triple the penalties for turn 3 of lap 4 in every race. And also triple the penalties anytime there are more than 3 cars running within one second of each other. These are just as arbitrary as writing a new rule for turn one of a race.

I'm still waiting for anyone to give me one good reason to have a different set of rules for one turn during a race than we have in the rest of the race. If you want to talk about selective reading, why hasn't this question been addressed?

"Down" as in "im down for this" or "thumbs down"? if you're down for this send me an fr on PSN so you can get my special track so you can begin tuning your car and learning the track. 👍

Down as in I am down with this. I sent you a message in PS3

With this first turn rule, you're telling me that we're going to take a rule from a copycat league and implement it into our league.

Here's how it reads in the copycat league;

The First Turn Rule - It is the policy of this league for you to hold your position in turn 1 and not try to improve it unless the following situations occur: 1) The driver directly in front of you is asleep on the start. 2) The driver directly in front of you runs off course with at least 2 wheels off the track. 3) Obvious race incidents that must be avoided. 4) If you are able to fully draft past someone without incident or disruption to the other driver(s) with a reasonable distance before approaching the first turn.

Holding your position in the first turn is limited to the first turn on the first lap. This rule is in place for 2 reason: (1) to effectively avoid incidents in the first turn, and (2) so that drivers who are being careful and doing their part to avoid incidents in the 1st turn of are not taken advantage of. There is no sense in causing an incident in the congestion of the first turn. You can not win the race on the 1st turn or even the 1st lap. If a complaint is filed, the decision we make will be one that promotes an incident free first turn.

Sounds like a conflict of interest if you ask me.

I think copying this rule, mind you, a ridiculous rule, is unwarranted in SNAIL.
We already have a rule to take care of this, it's called a 'Race Complaint'!
Are we here, in this league, to race or to regulate every facet of the fun that I've been having in this league for over a year.

I think it sounds pretty good. The rule doesn't change much, simply sets a clearer expectation for a unique part of the race. I do however understand your concerns and views and they are valid.

The only guys who should be afraid are the ones that operate in the Grey area.

From my own perspective, I totally understand the main objective of what this rule is intending to do; however, there are many tracks like 'GVE' that the 1st turn is an excellent passing opportunity to make a clean pass; or that the 1st turn is actually a very straight turn which would not address the tight corner 2.

I agree that there is already a system in place to file complaints regarding race craft on the 1st turn; if you want double or triple the penalties on lap 1 turn 1, then so be it this MAY decrease the aggressiveness on some racers.

Over the last 3 Sundays, everyone has behave very good at D3 on the starts, and there has been a few clean passes on 1st turn as well.

We interrupt this broadcast for your regularly scheduled :sly: 24hr Nurburgring update. 'Bout to jump in for another stint. How are the rest of you A-spec endurance racers doing?

Passing in turn 1 on the first lap!
Sometimes just can't be avoided, however it's not a bad idea to add a rule!

Like don't be a total a$$ and take out everyone!

Here's my view on the debate.

1. The rules should be the same for corner 1 as the rest of the corners.
2. Can you pass before or during corner 1? Yes, if you can do it cleanly. If you can't make the pass cleanly, don't attempt it. If you do and it causes mayhem, you should pay the price.
3. REPORT incidents in corner 1, 2 or 27. If YOU DON'T the behaviour will remain the same.
4. Perhaps more scrutiny on corner 1 is needed. IF the stewards have the cycles to make that happen.

S.N.A.I.L.s should always respect the driver in front of them. This doesn't mean you shouldn't put pressure on, feint a pass or generally be in the other guys mirrors. This means when you have an opportunity, take advantage of it, but do it cleanly.

Will mistakes happen, without a doubt. They can happen anywhere, turn 1, 2 or 27.

When you've made a mistake, do the right thing:

1. If you're under braking and you know you're coming in hot, find a place without cars, usually on the outside.
2. If unavoidable contact happens, caused by your mistake, concede the position and apologize in the lounge after.

Own your actions.

By the way...

I don't think there is anything concrete for tonight correct? Anyone want to run Cat&Mouse?
Nord Recycler?
