I have been playing racing games for years, not seriously, always SP, just something to do when I got high. It was fun and all, but not very real. AI sucked and I never had the balls to go online, 'cause online sucked then too and I thought I would embarrass myself. Then I got GT5. Then I got a wheel, a crappy wheel, but a wheel. I still only played SP.
I have known Steve (Aero) for years since I bought a set of floats for my airplane from him. He was far too fat and ugly to fly a float plane. We became very good friends, sheep issues aside. GT6 had been out for a few months and Steve was all exited about this online racing league he had found called S.N.A.I.L. A league with points and penalties, a league that was all about clean driving and online friendship. I trudged across the tundra to his igloo to visit him and and his wife, Ukulukaluk and found him building a racing rig, very cool. I did a few laps while Steve pedaled the power generator. I was hooked.
Long story short, I went out the next day, bought GT6, found an almost new G27 pedal set for a hundred bucks, got home, set it all up and I was in business. Having FFB blew me away. Wow, I was actually racing online and it felt like real racing. Anyway, I went through the joining process and got put into D-8. Bottom of the barrel, that's ok, I'm a noob. Aero was in the same div. so at least I knew someone. He sucked back then too.
My first race was the Lotus at Daytona speedway, which I won....... I won the first online race I ever entered. Well, puff up my chest and stuff me full of broccoli, I am the ****. Until I was told that rubbin is not Snail, I guess I banged into a few people for the win...... I didn't win another race for nearly a year. Pop goes my bubble.
I made it as far as D5, but was never consistent, I would race with the guys up front for a while till I spun out. I had to fix that. It took a loooong time to find that consistency, but it finally started to come together. Thank Pack racing for that. I miss that series the most, always a blast and a great way to keep the spincter tight.
The first guys I met online playing with Steve,( if you ever meet Steve, offer him a quarter, he will know why......ask him), were Vsfit, McTrucker and the absent member DCShwinn. They welcomed me and taught me a ton of stuff. I have never met any of you guys face to face, but I feel like I know a lot of you and would consider you all as friends. DC, where are you? Trucker sounds so much like my nephew, that's who I picture when I hear his voice.
RacingChamp, has been my Sunday night host for almost my whole Snail career. Always there brother. I think there were only two seasons we weren't together in a year and a half.
Zero and all the other guys who keep this league alive, big thumbs up for a job well done with not nearly enough credit.
Singlepaddy who gave me the Slo-Go-Ban moniker... I loved the CarTunes.
Raw with Lobbanotomy. This stuff makes my day.
Chatva-Thorva, we started out on the wrong foot, but became good online buddies, Asshole. Lol.
Everytime I hear T-Bong's blblblblblbllblblllblb on the bong, which is after every race, I laugh.
Desert Penguin....... I head right for the forum when I get up in the morning just to see what your next post will be. Now that's entertainment. Hold on tight, he's coming to PCars. Yikes.
Tex and Nail, both older than dirt but still a factor on any track. I really look up to and respect both of you guys. Gives me hope for my old age. Lol.
I love the barbs, insults, abuse and zingers flying around the threads........especially when they are directed at me. Makes me all fuzzy and warm. Bring it on and expect the same in return.
Now that PCars is out, I find it really hard to go back to GT6, I have to go with the best, at least until the next GT game comes out. Online racing is now my main hobby, I love it. Keeps my 60 year old brain sharp, well that and really good marijuana. My friends and family just don't understand, they think of it as playing video games, which it is , in a sense, but to explain to them how much positive energy and the comradery I get racing with friends online is a waste of breath. **** em, i'm old, I don't care what anyone thinks. I can grow old, but nobody can make me grow up.
I hope GT dazzles our minds, but until then.....? I seem to have found a symmetry and connection with the physics of the dark side. Jeez, I'm running with the big guns and am fairly competitive with them. GTR and Mopar are the stars. Me Schmiggs, Lesson, Card, Sgetti Filapino and Double are all fighting for the next spots. As more guys upgrade their systems, this league will grow with Snails leading the way.
Anyway, a new chapter has opened with PCars being the best out there right now and I hope most of you will upgrade and get PCars till GT7 comes out. Sell a kidney or give lots of blood. Feed the kids KD, ( mac and cheese for you 'Mericans),for a month or two.
I think it's really cool that as scattered as we are, we can all get together and enjoy our collective passion no matter who or where we are. I love living in an age where this kind of fun is possible. I get my daily dose of laughter medicine from you guys. I hope I will still be around when VR becomes the norm, the next step will be incredible.
Excuse me, I'm off to run some laps, practice for Tuesday night. It's still Snail, which I am grateful for. Same fun but different in a better immersive way. What's one kidney? You have two.
Whoops, sorry, this was supposed to be under a spoiler. Carry on, nothing to see here.
