Built this racing cabinet based on the 0-60 magazine NFS shift plans.

I'm just mounting the z906 speaker system now, and will install art, the spoiler for looks, and then it will be complete.

More details can be found at retrocadespot.blogspot.com

Looks cool! If it was mine I would paint it and get a bunch of automotive stickers for it. Just a suggestion :)

Didn't take too long, I think about 3 weeks from when I started, but I mostly only worked on it on the weekends. Maybe 50 hours or so I would guess.

Cabinet is painted currently a gun metal grey color, it's made from MDF so looks like plywood otherwise.

I'm working on the art for the sides now, going with vinyl printed decals and will make it look something like this but changing the graphics a lot:

Added the rear spolier and z906 speaker system. Speakers sound great only issue is when you output audio on multiple outputs with the PS3 (analog and optical) the optical signal quality is reduced. Not sure there is a way around it since I need the multi outputs to drive the buttkicker and there is no way to tie into the subwoofer since it does not run off a cable.

That is truly a very nice build you got there. I wish I had the room and permission from the girlfriend to build a rig like that.

Yeah the significant others aren't huge fans of these big cabinets, but as long as I keep it in the basement she doesn't get too upset. That cabinet is a mame cabinet, and I have a couple pinballs as well. The builds are documented here for those retrocadespot.blogspot.com

GT5 is pretty sweet on this rig although I'm loving Dirt2, that game is plain addictive.

Firstly, nice skills on the build excellent work. Look forward to seeing more.
Does your TV connect via HDMI from PS3 and does your TV model support L/R Stereo ouput or Digital Audio output connections?

Trust me we can find a way of sorting your audio/Buttkicker issue

Sweet project, so are these vinyl stickers being printed by a print shop from your own image files, or you purchasing pre-made one online somewhere then cutting them to size??

A good idea I'm just thinking of, for the interior panels right next to the screen, would be to buy this black felt-like material used in home-theater applications, which absorbs light reflection (don't know the proper name for the stuff).... seems like it would be bothersome if left bare painted or a covered by a shiny vinyl sticker.

In what way is the digital signal compromised? Never heard that before?

TV does support audio output but the hdmi to the TV isn't carrying sound since I have the PS3 running optical to the logitech z906 stereo system, and just video going over the HDMI. I dual output on the PS3 so analog audio to the buttkicker.

I'm going to see if I can find a switch maybe since I don't want to wire up a receiver for this.

The decals I will probably get printed in the US from a place called gameografix used them for my pinballs and they were good price and looked great. Art I am making in photoshop, based off of the need for speed games.

Usually i use illustrator but want this to be more photo realistic.

Try this:

1. Set the PS3 to enable 5.1 and multi output.
2. Use Hdmi to your Tv include audio setting.
3. The audio out from your Tv can be connected to your Buttkicker using combined stereo into its mono input.
4. Connect the Optical cable output from PS3 to your Logitech speakers.

The PS3 should give digital output to HDMI & OPTICAL although limited to 5.1

Hope it helps.

Was thinking that the new Test Drive Ferrari game might of been a great showcase title for a cabinet, though not sure if your fond of Ferrari.

Great setup, looks very clean and cozy, as Mayman suggested you need to have someone spill some paint on it now :)

OUtputting audio to the TV would probably work, but problem is downsampling occurs when you have dual audio output on the ps3. Not sure if going 5.1 to the buttkicker from the TV would give better feedback, I'll maybe try that.

Theirs no digital input on the Buttkicker only mono RCA/PHONO so you cant take a digital pass through from your TV to the Buttkicker.

PS3 supports dual 5.1 I believe it does not support 7.1 in multi audio out as it states this when selecting it.
Your Logitech speakers only support Dolby Digital & DTS so are not using uncompressed PCM audio anyways.

Do not use analogue out on PS3 use HDMI & OPTICAL as recommended.
Many of us use dual 5.1 output this way for surround sound and multichannel tactile configurations from PS3.

How do you get in and out of it? I might opt for a door if I were you because it looks like you really have to climb in there.

Ah that makes sense about the buttkicker I'll give that a try. I'll use optical and hdmi and then run audio to the buttkicker. Maybe i won't need to run multi outputs that way as a setting on the PS3 or maybe I'll still have to but I'll give it a try.

Not having a door is a bit of a pain but I put the seat back and it's not too bad.

Got the artwork all finished now and applied, was a big job getting everything lined up correctly but happy with how it turned out. Makes the machine look smaller I think.

Holy @#$% that looks so much better with the graphics. ( not that it looker bad) seriously nice effin work!

This is just me but that would look much better with a $20 wall mount on the monitor rather than the table mount. In new arcade machines they seem to be just fine letting you know you are playing on a tv but it would still be mounted.

Yeah I need a better way to mount the TV for sure, i'm thinking to wall mount it like you suggested and maybe cut a bezel for around it so it's more integrated
