Hey, I got 100% in Vice City without any cheats. I thought I’d share that and give some tips/findings, if anyone’s interested. I’ll avoid giving any main story line spoilers, but there might be a few smaller ones. So, if you don’t want to know anything about the game, don’t read any further. I’ll mark ones where something minor could be giving away at the beginning, in caps.

GETTING 100%: You have to do a lot to get 100%. In addition to the main and side missions, there are a lot of other tasks to be done. Several races, both with other vehicles and through checkpoints (some RC ones, too), find all 100 hidden packages, complete all rampages and unique jumps, buy all available property (assets and hideouts) and compete their tasks, level 12 vigilante, fire and ambulance missions, drop off 100 passengers in a taxi. And (this is what took me a while to figure out), score a 45 on the shooting gallery. For that, there’ll be a mission that puts you there. Once you do it, go back to the location and try to get a 45. It ain’t easy.

HIDDEN PACKAGES: Finding these is a lot tougher than in GTA3. They’re also green and can be harder to spot. Also, the rewards for every 10 are a bit different from GTA3. You still mostly get weapons at the hideout(s), but, for instance, you never get a sub-machine gun, and they don’t show up at every hideout. (But some hideouts spawn their own weapons, too.)

HEALTH AND THE HOOKER TRICK, ETC. This is different from GTA3. In short, when you save your game, you get your full health back, which is nice. You’ll still need to pick up body armor, though. However, if you got used to using the “hooker trick” in GTA 3 and saving with 125 health, it won’t work in this one. The trick will still get you to 125, but when you save, it’ll take you back down to 100. (Or another amount awarded for other tasks)

RAMPAGES: I don’t care much for the rampages in either GTA3 or Vice City. There are more of them in VC, but most didn’t seem as hard to me. And, if you fail it, it’ll stay in the same location. I had trouble with a couple of them simply because enough targets didn’t spawn. But if you put the weapon down and run around, more seem to show up.

LOSING WEAPONS WITH RAMPAGES: I found that, after doing some rampages, I lost weapons, so I looked at Game FAQs to find out why. If you have the game, you know that you can only have one of each type of weapon. The rampages, though, give you a weapon with unlimited ammo. But, say you have the SPAZ-12 shotgun (like I did), but don’t have it selected. Hit a rampage where you use a lesser shotgun and you’ll find, after it’s over, your shotgun is gone, too. BUT, if you have the shotgun selected before you hit the rampage, you’ll still have it after it’s over, along with some extra ammo. Seems like a glitch. Anyway, it lead me to resort to Game FAQs when I found a rampage, so I’d know what to have selected before I hit it.

UNIQUE JUMPS: I really like these things. Again, there are more of them in VC, and several are much harder to find, especially since some are in places that can only be reached by motorcycle. There are a couple of combo jumps, too. You have to keep your speed up from the first jump to hit the second. I had gotten all but three, and then went nuts trying to figure out where the other ones were. And, yeah, I took a look at Game FAQs. It turned out, two of the three I’d thought I’d hit but didn’t (I might have gotten busted and re-loaded the game). I started a new game to figure out where you had to land on ones I thought I might have missed—that can be tough on some of them—then went back to the other game, hit them the same way, I got it.

GANGS HATING YOU; SPOILER ALERT. OK, read further only if you want to know how far you can get before doing stuff becomes tough. In short, pretty far. I was cautious of this throughout the game, but, unlike GTA3 where nearly every gang hates you, that doesn’t really happen in Vice City. Without giving too much away, as you progress through the game, you’ll know which gangs are really going at it. And if you take a mission similar to “Blow Fish” in GTA3, where the gang will see you and know what you did, they’ll come after you when it’s over. This was one of the last things I did. I’d failed it, earlier and held off on it. Even then, though, it takes them longer to notice you. One of the bizarre things in GTA3 was, no matter how fast you were buzzing through an area, any gang member pissed at you would start shooting. In Vice City, it seems to take them a few seconds to see you and realize who you are. But, if you’re, say, wearing a rival gang outfit, they’ll notice you a lot quicker (even if you haven’t upset them yet).

HIDEOUTS; MINOR SPOILER ALERT. You start with a hideout that doesn’t have a garage and have to buy the rest of them. Well, there’s another you get as you progress through the game. Some have garages, some are just save points. If you want any advice in this area, I think Hyman Condos (what a name) is the best to get, so if you’re low on cash, wait for the second island to open and snag it. It’s on your map. It has garages aplenty (although I’ve had stuff disappear from the four-car garage), weapons gotten by finding unique packages are spawned there, along with a helicopter. It’s tough to find, though. It’s near the stadium and an Ammu-nation. If you find Tacopolypse, you’ll see an alley across the street with a couple of barricades and a police bribe just beyond them. Go in that alley and you’ll see the icon you can use to buy the place.

A FEW FUN THINGS: You can go back into a lot of the buildings that open up after missions. You can look around Phil’s trailer, for instance, and check out his décor. It’s also fun to see how much stuff changes in the two hideouts you don’t have to buy as you progress through the game. And find Tommy’s kind of a slob. Like GTA3, there are puns and jokes about everywhere you look. I also found a Pogo The Monkey arcade game, along with a Degeneratron. And Fernando’s back on the radio! You can’t do anything with them, just spot ‘em. You also meet a couple GTA3 characters in their earlier days. One thing, though, if you go back into the building where the last Malibu Club mission sent you, be careful how far you go.

I think I’ve rambled enough. Hope this might help someone. You can send me a message if you want any tips or anything, too, so I avoid posting any major spoilers on the boards.

Oops, I didn't mean to use an exclamation point instead of a 1 in the header. Oh well. Cross eyed after doing all that stuff.

What is the building in the kast mission of the malibu club? The bank? Or the Police headquarters?

I didnt know I could go back in the bank. How sweet!

I'm at 77%, all i really have to do is rampages, jumps, a few side missions (pjc playground) and 50 taxi and the ambulence missions:D

Yeah, you can. Try it when you haven't done anything that you want to save, though.

I can get out of there no prob.

Just blow a hole in anyting that moves with your trusty colt 45, and make a bee-line for the exit. if you have a car waiting, pointing to the road (gotta be prepared:D) drive to the pay n' spray just up the road.

For the spawning weapons, I know El Swanko Casa has an assault rifle on the roof, and the mansion has a lot of stuff around. Trying not to give too much away. I bought the other hideouts to complete the game, but mostly used just a couple.

I only use ocean hotel to save, cause i think the losing car thing is when you go by one of your garages, and it opens, but never shut, losing a car(s)

Space, that made no sence other than the fact that you only save at one spot.

Um, a fun thing to do is to, um, well you can put on the suit you get from the malibu and run around police stations or go to the air force base. oh yeah, start fighting any chick in the Pole Position once you buy it, and then have fun!

Hey, I found something new. I was screwing around in the mall with a motorcycle after I'd lost some health, and noticed there was a faint pink mission type marker in front of the hot dog stand. So I went over it, Tommy ordered a hot dog, and got his health back. Didn't see him eat it or anything, but there was a very short conversation when he ordered.

Oh, and if you've bought Kaufman, take one of the regular Kaufman Cabs out for a spin. You'll hear the lady on the radio. At one point, she does say one of the other characters called and wants to be picked up. I took a look around, but didn't see him/her, though.

Kaufman Cabs were good fun, especially when you have to pick mercedes up....and well she's not their but the rival cabs are..:car:

I won't spoil it too much by telling you what happens, but succeed and you'll get a little gift left at the Cab place...:star:

I was in a hurry.

What i meant was:

I think the car glitch (where the garage eats a car(s)) is cause by when you either:

a. walk/drive by a garage door and it opens, but doesnt shut. when it gets stuck open it eats a car, and then closes the door.

b. go by a garage, and the door open, and you go and save before you let the door shut, in turn eating a car.

The reason why a save at ocean beach is because

a. there are no garages to go by and get doors stuck open.

b. its the only place the save glitch hasnt appeared yet.

Is that a little clearer?:D

Oh, you're talking about the actual Kaufman Cabs mission. Yeah, I've done that. Done all of them.

If you just drive around in a Kaufman Cab any time, you'll hear the lady, which the credits say is voiced by Debbie Harry.

Anyone else look at the credits to see the voice talent they got for the characters? Pretty impressive.

Yeah, lots of famous people there: Burt Reynolds, Dennis Hopper, Gary Busey, Tom Sizemore...
