Assetto Corsa 1.3

Physics
64-bit natively supported and car physics calculated on multi-thread. The physics engine has been reworked to become completely multithreaded: as a result, the driving precision is augmented, the accuracy further improved and the physics solver has enough horsepower to completely resolve any difficult calculations any speed, achieving butter smooth Force Feedback and complete elimination of signal noise and vibrations. We'll be back with more details on physics updates when the new build will be released next week.

Graphics
2D/3D models, textures and shaders have been updated and improved, in order to keep the standards reached with the latest content. Now windscreens receive shadows, and a new camera facing feature improves the rendering of 2D/3D objects on track. A first basic support for dynamic objects on tracks has been added as well, and it will be improved in future updates, with the aim to get a more immersive environment.

Sound
Fine tuning and improved algorithms for audio editing: all new cars benefit by use of new techniques of recording and sampling for engines, interiors and exhaust systems, also thanks to the technical cooperation of Akrapovic. This allows to recreate a more detailed audio trace and the exclusive detail of each car, improving the immersion while driving. Content that are available already in Assetto Corsa will be updated during the process, to bring them to a higher level of realism and in line with the latest quality standards.

Multiplayer
Dedicated server has been optimized in order to improve general stability.
New parameters and features have been added to server configuration, in order to please the requests of gamers who are looking for a more comprehensive online experience.

Get ready to experience the most advanced driving experience!

Really great content in this dream pack, I'm looking forward to Circuit de Catalunya, official Assetto Corsa tracks are very well made.

Looking forward to picking this apart like I did with the dream pack 1 and bonus pack. Catalunya is a great addition and I cannot wait to drive the RUFs!

Somewhat intrigued with that 64x physics-calculation mentioning, FFB in AC is already considered great, so if they've improved it more... I honestly don't know what to expect.

That's good news. Any usability improvements in the online server are welcome.

I have a question...I purchased the game from Steam and my game installed in C:/Program Files (x86)/Steam/steamapps/common/assettocorsa - therefore, my game is 32-bit, right? I was always under the impression that Program Files (x86) was for 32-bit applications and Program Files was for 64-bit. Does anyone have any knowledge of this?

In theory it should not matter because. You can put a x64 designed program into the x86 programs folder and vice versa. I think the only time issues would arise is if you tried to use compatibility mode but for AC you would never need that.

Oh, I know you CAN put a 64-bit program in the x86 folder. It's just a suggestion from Microsoft for organization. The reason I asked is I've seen people write C:/Program Files/Steam... in their responses to certain questions on some threads. It led me to believe that the game installed into that folder for them automatically, like there was a 64-bit specific installation. I'm probably wrong. We'll see after tomorrow's update because there is 64-bit code coming for sure.

The Steam launcher is 32 bit, which is why it lives in the x86 folder. All of the games in the Steam library install to that directory, regardless of whether they run at 32 or 64 bit.

Up until the latest update, AC has been a 32 bit application anyway.

Ahhh...Thank you, very much. Assetto Corsa is the only PC game I have and it's only the second "game" I've played in like 10+ years. GT6 was the first. So, I have zero experience with Steam. Anyway, that makes perfect sense. Thank you for clearing that up for me. :)

Personally, I have my steam install (in fact most of my programs install) outside of either of the program files locations, just in case ^^
I am interested in seeing what the performance is like with the x64 version

V1.3 what's the buzz
Aristotelis
So the imminent version 1.3 (and Dream Pack 2) brings a whole new bunch of improvements, features and novelties.
Here's some previews regarding the driving (I wanted to write "warnings" but it sounded a bit too harsh :P )

64bit - 32bit.
Nothing changes in terms of driving and physics between the two. 64bits though permits addressing bigger chunks of memory and can do stuff like saving bigger replays. I do not know if this is already enabled by Stefano, but if not, will be in the future. Certainly 64bit is the way forward, so start updating too...

Physics:
- New ABS system which now supports 1,2,3,4 channels. Cars should stop better now. (obviously realistic distances)
- Active differentials also at the rear wheel drive cars. I'm not talking EDLs supporting mecchanical diffs but actual active differentials. They can do some great tricks... try the M4, Ferrari 458, Ferrari LaFerrari for some amazing results.
- EDL differentials now active also at the front of AWD active systems. Yes we managed to eliminate some (not all) understeer from the Por... sorry RUF AWD. The Nissan GT-R pulls some amazing tricks too.
- Modified Front splitter height sensitivity for some cars will make some famous turns not so easy to do.
- Added wheel offset simulation in suspension so that you can simulate more easily and accurately the correct suspension scrub. Scrub value is also available in the dev app "suspensions"

V5 Tyre model:
Our tyre model evolves with each release and this is a big step forward! We now have completely reworked load sensitivity equations, new over the peak curve, different flat-spotting based also on load, modified and corrected rolling resistance equations, new heating values and simulation of both surface and core temperatures with speed (from air speed) sensible cool down and more. All of that in the core system

Because of all those changes in the core system, we have put a massive effort to completely rework all the tyres for all the cars. That's more than 130 files each of one with at least 2 compounds, usually 3, sometimes 5... the struggle was (is) real.

As such, the bad news is that some of the cars are still on the V4 tyre model (which is still compatible so your mods also are not broken). The good news is that there are just 7 cars that are still on the V4 model, namely:
Ferrari 312T, Lamborghini Miura SV, Lotus 49, Lotus 98T, Lotus EXOS 125 (and S1), Shelby Cobra 427.
As you can see, they are all either extreme single seaters or vintage tyres. We need some studying to do for them and couldn't make it in time. Expect an update soon™

All the other cars are on the brand new V5 tyre model!

What to expect in terms of driving?
Nothing and everything.
As usual we have a pretty decent idea on what a tyre should do and that hasn't changed, so we don't believe you'll feel something completely new. More of a global improvement of weak points of the old model. Nevertheless my advice is: Forget everything. Forget your laptimes, forget your setups, forget your FFB settings, actually set everything to 100% gain as we changed how the FFB handles for all cars too.
Just drive, from scratch, without any muscle memory.

A few notes.
- Heat your tyres slowly. It will need 1 to 2 laps to bring the tyres to proper temperature both surface and internally in the core. The surface will keep going up and down but the core will stabilise. Then start to push. Otherwise use the tyre blankets
- What was the core temperature on the apps is now surface. Don't go crazy on the surface temperature. It is VERY variable now. It will go up and down in terms of mere seconds! What you need is a proper temp range on turn in, apex, exit. Ignore what it does at high speed on the straights, that's how it works. (look at some F1 heat cameras videos on youtube to understand the effect).
- Cars are even more sensitive to setup now. One click at a time.
- Did you spun out? It happens. But be VERY careful when you rejoin. It really takes nothing to overheat the tyres while doing burnouts to get back on track. The next turn might be fatal! Take it easy for at least 2-3 turns to cool the tyres down.

And a mea culpa. The new heat tyre model is extremely complicated. We should have made a proper app or proper messages to warn you when the tyres are cold, overheated, good or bad condition. We didn't make it. We apologize, we will try to do it... err... soon™. Please be kind and have patience, it's complicated for us too and days have only 32 hours.

The pic needs to be posted too. :D

Assetto Corsa 1.3 and Dream Pack 2 now available!

Assetto Corsa Dream Pack 2

Welcome to DREAM PACK 2, the latest add-on content pack for ASSETTO CORSA.
This package adds the Circuit of Catalunya and eight new awesome cars in ten different versions to the Assetto Corsa racing game. Get it today and join the most thrilling virtual driving experience ever!

The Circuit of Barcelona

Due to its complexity, it took nine months of work to reproduce the Circuit of Catalunya. Laser Scanning Technology allowed the team to recreate the most faithful version of the Spanish track available in any racing game to date.
For the first time ever in a PC racing simulation, the Circuit of Catalunya has been digitally recreated using Laser Scanning Technology. Every single detail of the track has been reproduced with maximum level of precision. A resolution of 2 cm guarantees that every single bump, curb and slope is a perfect match to the real counterpart. The resulting accuracy combined with the advanced physics model of Assetto Corsa offers an unprecedented driving experience blurring even more the difference between virtual racing and reality.

The Cars
Similarly to Dream Pack 1, the cars in Dream Pack 2 were selected through polls, with gamers voting for their favourite manufacturers and models on our website. The pack includes a perfect mix of vehicles of different classes, types and periods, ready to satisfy our fans’ hunger for racing.
There is the Lamborghini Huracan GT3, introducing this awesome racing car produced by Lamborghini Automobili for the first time in any PC simulation, followed by the legendary Lamborghini Countach 5000 Quattro Valvole. The epic Ford GT40 MK1 is the first FORD model to be included in Assetto Corsa. The AUDI R8 ULTRA 2014 is one of the most-wanted racing cars by Assetto Corsa fans, as well as other unique models such as the RUF RT12R and the SCG003 prototype, designed and built by Scuderia Cameron Glickenhaus.
The BMW M4 Coupé also deserves a special mention, as this car has been reproduced in partnership with Akrapovič, a brand that is synonymous with the highest level of design, performance enhancement and the creation of an unmistakable, deeply resonant exhaust sound.

Assetto Corsa 1.3

Assetto Corsa version 1.3 introduces some great improvements to the core game engine and new features to the physics engine.
The game now supports native 64-bit code. The physics engine has been reworked and is now completely multithreaded. As a result, the driving precision is augmented, the accuracy has further improved and the physics solver has enough horsepower to completely resolve any difficult calculations at any speed, achieving butter-smooth Force Feedback and a complete elimination of signal noise and vibrations.

Assetto Corsa’s top-class physics engine has been constantly evolving and improving. The AC physics code already includes various industry-first features, such as advanced active aerodynamics, four-wheel drive simulation with active differentials, realistic driving assists systems, unique hybrid engines simulation and advanced tyre-wear features, such as blistering, graining and flat spots.

With version 1.3 we now present you a completely reworked tyre model that includes new features in connection with tyre-speed sensitivity, combined grip, slip angles and ratios, load sensitivity, rolling resistance and most importantly, separated heating for surface and core temperatures. As a result, driving in Assetto Corsa is now more realistic than ever. The driving experience is more natural while at the same time also more challenging at the limit. Real-life features such as driving carefully in the first two laps to heat the tyres or taking it easy to cool down overheated tyres after a spin, the handling of the car changing from turn to turn depending on your driving style or as a result of driver errors and choosing the correct tyre compound depending on the track and car combination and also your driving style will now become part of your daily driving experience in Assetto Corsa.

We did not stop at the tyres though. We have improved the ABS system and now depending on the car, Assetto Corsa supports different generations of ABS systems using 1 to 4 channels. We have enabled active differentials also for RWD cars, such as the brand new BMW M4, which is part of the Dream Pack 2 DLC. We also have improved the height sensitivity of front splitters and diffusers making their influence more complex from a setup engineering point of view and more demanding from the aspect of the driver, creating an overall more satisfactory experience for everyone.

Do not just drive by memory some binary data values that resemble cars on your screen. Drive cars that are “alive”, constantly changing their behaviour from turn to turn as a response to your personal driving style.

Are you ready to join the challenge?

Also I see @Kamuifanboy has already had a try at KUNOS Simulazioni HeadQuarters:
R&D At Vallelunga Studios with Lamborghini
Vallelunga circuit - KUNOS Simulazioni's HQ
Great moments today with Kei Cozzolino and Shige Michimi: the official Lamborghini Huracan GT3 and Super Trofeo drivers paid a visit at Kunos Studios today, during a break of Lamborghini test, having the chance to drive the Huracan GT3, that will be available for the first time in a racing simulation. They engaged an amazing challenge, driving on the same laptimes signed today on track, and trying the new tyre and physics model featured in Assetto Corsa 1.3.

Are you ready to beat them?

So far done a frame performance test and a FFB test. Personally, FFB feels better but still could do with work. Frames wise, no difference really, except maybe an extra frame or two in places.

Marvellous. I can't get the damned thing to go to the track. I click on it to go to the track then the screen does its usual thing for a few seconds and then goes back to the previous screen where I can chose car, track ect. instead of the track. :banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead:

Are you trying a mod car or track?

So after a couple of hours of testing (and video recordings for reviews) this is what I have found (briefly):
- The damned black box around the performance delta is gone! WOO!
- Loading is a little faster, but not by much
- Despite new effects, windscreen shadows etc, the frames are ever so slightly higher than they were
- FFB is far more vibrant, little bumps etc are all very nicely done. I don't think they have totally fixed the vibrations etc, but it is much much better. I still have to have effects down somewhat though. Annoyingly, they seem to have gotten rid of the FFB override for each car in the setup?
- Tyres... very very nice! They feel so much more realistic, in fact the cars feel so much more alive now and really highly detailed. The V5 model really has a lot to compliment, but what I really like is how your driving style really affects how the tyres react. All we need now is proper deformation!
- Sounds. I love the sounds in this pack, BUT the GT40 sounds a little too quiet... Could do with more backfire sounds though
- Catalunya is a beautiful, beautiful place.
- I hate the gearbox protection.
- And why do we have the door closing when we start? xD

Overall, it all feels a lot smoother and more realistic, but in the subtle ways which is very interesting. 10/10 for this, and not bad for a fiver.
