16 cars

Not really. It depends on which level of play you're at and how skilled you are. There's more traffic in GT5P (16 cars versus 6 in earlier GTs), but the Ai doesn't drive quite as stoopid as it did in earlier GT games. It seems more respectful and aware of your presence. For instance, as i'm trying to brake and enter a tight corner, I have yet to be truely "pitted" (basically spun) by a sim car.

But if you're not skilled at figuring out ways to dodge traffic, and there's 8 cars starting in front of you, yea, it will seem like a harder game.

In GT5P, some races are a challenge some are not. But I really can't wait for full game with races with 20+ laps to be even more fun with 16 cars. I wonder if GT5 will surprise us with 20 cars!

More cars is better. However Prologue makes it feel like a gimmick. The 8 cars that start behind the player in arcade mode might as well not be there, because it is impossible to be passes by them unless you have an inferior car.

Of the 7 leading cars, only 1 (maybe 2) matter. Offline aces do nothing more than show off a moderately sized pack of car and expect you to be impressed. I won't care until I get a race where I am forced to realize that there are 16 cars vying for position.

Online is great though, 16 car races are one of the best things I've experienced on a console. PD just needs to give us player created rooms and qualifying and GT5P will be the best racing game ever on a console without a doubt.
