As a quick note, a lot of you are getting the Ford GT and the GT40 mixed up - the GT40 is the 1969 edition (named for its 40 inch height) whereas the Ford GT is the newer (2005) interpretation of that same car - the new one is not called the GT40 because it is NOT 40 inches high, it's a bit over that. Searching the forum for an answer to the 1969 GT40's handling has been painstaking because everyone refers to them incorrectly, and I needed to clarify the difference between the two.

I have started a small competition amongst friends where we do a 2 lap run on Nurburgring - sports cars, racing edition cars, and trucks (no indy cars, that kind of thing) as long as it's under 600hp. It's been a quite fun competition with me in the lead with a total time of 14:03 in a 576hp supercharged corvette z06. Fun drive, but I'm getting off topic here.

The GT40 and the newer ford GT are probably my two favorite cars in the history of mankind. I recently got the 1969 GT40 but am trying to optimize it for Nurburgring use - I've got the transmission and all of that stuff down, but in particular I'm wondering if any of you have found a good solution for suspension/downforce/TCS/etc. to make it handle even better than it does stock. I am a suspension n00b and only understand the very basics, so any help would be extremely appreciated.

Eh, tried the link above's settings and adapted them to GT4, but it handles even worse than stock. Ugh.

Interesting. I've been using Fumes' GT3 settings on a lot of cars in GT4 and they transfer very well. Some seem even better. This is the first one I've heard of that doesn't work in GT4.

I don't know, maybe I'm being paranoid or something, but from what I've been seeing on several forums, its almost beginning to look like PD has deliberately borked the Ford GT and GT40. Yes, I know Kaz has a GT and all, but everybody is complaining about their awful handling and braking, and they're always the worst sort of dead-last field-filler when PD puts them in a race as AI competition.

I agree - it almost seems like they made them handle bad by default on purpose so people wouldn't race them - but why would they do something like that? Everything I've heard from people that have driven those cars in the real world say they're really, really good in all areas.

This at least applies to the stock Ford GT anyway. The racing edition cars (1969, 2002, 2005 LM edition) cars handle and accelerate beautifully - I was just curious if there was a way to make the 69 handle even better. The bumps on nurb throw me around in that car waaay too much :)

Being an old car i wasnt expecting the GT40 to be amazing, but its fun to drive for me. The brakes are horrendous. Considering the GT is a Ferrari 360 competitor i was expecting to be a bit lighter on its feet.

If you find some decent settings for the GT40 let us know, it will be interesting to see how good it can be, even though i like keeping the 'classics' stock.

Yes, the GT40 is a pretty fun ride! The braking is indeed horrible, but I partly remedied that by slapping the stopping power up to 14 for front and rear, instead of just 3 at both. This helps it stop a lot faster but at the same time stopping starts to get extremely unstable if you are turning at all into corners at high speeds. On nurburgring this is a rather big problem as there are a lot of sharp corners after fast straights, and I can't seem to make a lap around nurb in this car without killing myself several times over.

I forgot to mention it in my original post but that is another issue I'm having, the suspension tunes in conjunction with the braking setup and whatnot. I'm pretty sure the braking has potential to improve as far as stability goes, and I'm not going to be content with braking earlier to solve that problem because it just absolutely kills lap times.

Then we are two!!!!! The Ford GT series is the most beatiful supercar ever made...and it is mye dreamcar...
First of all you should by a spoiler and set full downforce over all.
Suspensions: Lower the car a little bit above the minimum ride height, decrease the spring rate to almost minimum on both, the damper should be set to about 8 or 9 rebound, depending on the track, if it is a speedway or very flat, you should set maximum dampers or 9, and if the track is bumpy, simply adjust BOTH dampers yo about 8.
The stabilisers should be set to 6 on both (Im not sure, but it seems good. You should set the camber to raound 3,5 front and 2,5 back.
You shouldn't adjust the toe angle, because theis can destroy the cars handling
If your wheels are spinning much, y can buy an LSD differntial, and adjust it around the standard settings. If you have no trouble with wheelspinn, oversteer or if you dont want your car to be stabilised during braking there is no need for the LSD

That doesn't make sence, lower your ride height AND lower your spring rate? Bad idea, the car won't do that good. Try testing it on Seatle , and you will see that your car will bounce around. The other things might work though , just not the Spring rate and ride height

Why not?? If you still have high springrate and low ride height, the wheels will hit the wheelarchers and the car will lose grip. Isnt this how it works??

im a newbie on this board but have been lurking for a while.
i just got the gt40 and im about to try and tune it to the ring. ill let you know if i get anything succesful.

all i did after i changed gears was, turn off asm and tcs and had no problems, i just feathered the gas and was gentle on the brakes. it might just be my driving style though. srry if it doesnt help.
